A.J. Rath arrived in Wharton in 1965 to work on a project for the Wharton County Junior College. He brought his family to Wharton as the project evolved into a three-year task. By the end of the project, he had grown fond of the community, and many neighbors encouraged him to stay and start his own business. On January 27th, 1968, Rath Plumbing Company was established.
