In 1965, A.J. Rath came to Wharton to undertake a project for the Wharton County Junior College. When the project turned into a three-year commitment, he moved his family here. Once the project wrapped up, he had come to appreciate the community, and numerous neighbors persuaded him to stay and establish his own company. On January 27th, 1968, Rath Plumbing Company was established.
