I would like to preface this by saying that I used Precision for years, and they have always done a good job for me. THey are nice, guarantee their work, and show up on time. Never considered calling anyone else.
Recently, I made a heinous discovery. I needed to have some plumbing done for two new bathrooms (a couple of old sinks removed, and then new sinks and faucets installed). Their prices were so ridiculously high when I got competitive quotes, that I realized they had been fleecing me for years. Brothers Plumbing came in at half the price, but still high. Others have much lower prices. Both Brothers and Precision charged me $65 to come to my house for a quote! Others just told me on the phone about what they thought it would be for the simple job.
Then I started looking and realized that Precision has a beautiful new fleet of Mercedez Benz trucks with very high end paint jobs. When I calculated their hourly rates, I discovered that they charge more than my divorce attorney!
I found another plumbing service out of Longmont that does better work, faster at one fourth of the price.
These people are thieves!!!!!!! There are many other plumbing services and plumbers in this area who will do a great job at a fair price. I will report them to the BBB.
got an estimate for a new sewer tap. they did not pull the manhole covers of the city sewer in the alley to find out what the depth of the tap would be but just quoted me 8' deep (actually was about 12' deep - so additional work, additional safety measures, more fill material...). the estimate was about $9500. i got the work done for less than $4000 and had a couple more estimates in that same price range. well, the warning lights came on when the guy told me about their 1year interst free financing. i guess he figured i have a clogged sewer, can not use any water in the house and am desperate to sign a contract to get it fixed.
MY ADVICE: STAY AWAY !!!
James M.So we had a toilet that wasn't flushing correctly.......something obstructing the line. Long story short, won't flush right. Called Precision, and the dispatcher said that she would have someone out in a short time. I asked her how much, and she told me that it would be $59.00 to show up, and the tech would charge me for any parts or service extra. Well the guy comes out and starts asking about just about everything else except the clogged toilet. So I tell him it is the only plumbing problem I have and he tells me it will be $260.00. I till him no, and he said he needed to go out and call his boss then. So he comes back in, in less than a minute and tells me he can do it for $160. I tell him no, and he leaves. I called American Rooter and they came the next morning after telling me it would cost $100. Guess what? American Rooter came out and cleared the line in less than 5 minutes and charged me $100......Stay away from Precision. They are greedy and just take advantage of people.!
SCAM ARTISTS. EXTREMELY INFLATED QUOTES.
they work on commission and try to upsell you on everything they do. Their labor rates are inflated as are their materials costs. ALWAYS get a second quote when Precision is involved.
Here's my story - We've got an older condenser for our air conditioning and when we started it this spring I noticed the fan in the condenser wasn't turning on. Precision came out on May 10, 2013 and opened the unit and told me the motor was 'seized' and that it would take $1100 to fix and that a replacement unit (with a new coil) was really the proper solution. Oh, and by the way your hot water heater should be replaced too. Oh, and by the way a replacement ac unit will cost $5000-$7000 to install.
I had Barday come out on May 16, 2013 and not only was the fan NOT SEiZED they fixed the existing unit for $150 (including replacing a $60 capacitor that was the REAL source of our issue) and quoted me $3200 for a total replacement.
I had them come out to do a tune up on my a/c unit and check air temperature. When the tech arrived he first asked me if anyone had looked at the furnace since i moved in, i just bought house. As soon as i said no his face lit up. Then he went out looked at the unit and 5 minutes later came back in with a proposal to fix the unit. I told him i felt cool air coming out and he said he hooked up a new capacitor to make sure that was the problem. It literally took him less than 5 minutes. He sat down with me and first asked if i knew anything about a/c units, and when i told him i didn't, he got excited i am sure, he showed me a proposal to replace a capacitor for $550, and a start kit for another $380. He then said these would be a bandaid and probably need a new unit which gave me pricing in the $4-6k range. I told him the capacitor is only a $40 part, and it takes you less than 5 minutes to replace why are you charging me $550, and he said, "" I guess it is the convenience of having it fixed today"". Ok now this is robbery. I went online and found the part for $34 at Grainger store. I bought the part and installed it, easy as disconnecting wires and reconnecting, less than a minute in time to replace. This company is dishonest, and as crooked as they come to charge someone that much money for the ""convenience"" factor. I understand you have to make money, however i called 2 other companies to replace the same capacitor and they were both at $150. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF.
Remy D.this was our first time using Precision...they were great. John kelly was our Tech... great attitude, great job. much better experience than the Bro company. we will defiantly use them again!
I called them to ask for a quote on a new heating and AC system for my home and they wanted to charge me to quote. No thanks!
Kriss P.Precision is a huge company. I see their vans all over the place. I also have a stack of marketing material with Precision's name all over em. My previous landlord seemed to really fancy them and every time we needed a plumber for our water heater or sink, they were the ones calling me to schedule a time to come out. They were always nice and low maintenance.
As for their work, it is very average. One time they even had to come out twice because they thought they took care of my water heater problem but that wasn't the case. Not a big deal but I like things perfect the first time especially when it comes to hot water. I can only assume that an expert would know what their looking at and get the job done right the first time. You don't know how much you use your water heater on a daily basis until it goes out on you. I consider all of us very lucky for living in a great place like this...USA-OK! LOL. They also came out for our sink and they fixed a leak (my landlord opted not to get the garbage disposal fixed at that time) but didn't address other problems that I'm sure he should have noticed like the low hot water pressure and the back up caused by the disposals death. Which lead to my dishwashers inability to drain properly. But it's all good, I moved out of that place a few days ago.
I can't say that they suck because things pretty much get done and they are professional. I also can't say anything about the price because I never personally picked up a Precision Plumbing tab. Would I ever use them on my own? Probably not since my hubs works with a ton of plumbers while out building & painting commercial & residential properties.
My recommendation? Check them out but don't forget to do your homework and call other places too. I read that they don't offer the best prices. If you have coupon, use it!
PS- I'd post a hilarious pic but I don't think that would be very nice. Let's just say that the rumors and jokes are totally true, there's something about plumbers and their @$$ cracks hanging out.
Jeffrey V.I was able to schedule and have my toilet fixed within 4 hours; very fast work, looks good, technician (Dave C) was very helpful and efficient.
The job cost a bit more than I expected (800 to replace a toilet is steep), but it needed to be replaced quickly and done right the first time, so for this particular job it was worth it.
Sometimes it makes sense to try to save money and sometimes it doesn't. I have been a Precision customer for a long time; they installed our furnace after someone else did a lousy job, resulting in our needing a new unit only 4 years after the replacement had been put in. We learned the hard way that it was worth it to pay extra to have a furnace that the installer would stand behind and service to ensure satisfaction and a long life.
That being said, Precision is the Cadillac of plumbers. They knowingly charge more than anyone else, and specifically position themselves as high-end. This means that, for a lot of routine maintenance or small jobs, they should not be used. For example, I need to run a snake out to the main water line annually to remove roots from a big tree in my yard. Precision charges 2X or more what any other plumber would charge to do a very simple, no-brainer-type task. In fact, when I have had to replace a Condensate Pump and a Water Heater in the past, I have found that the markup by Precision--and other plumbers as well--was so high that I saved hundreds of dollars by buying the parts myself and just having the plumber (not Precision) do the install. For example, buying the condensate pump myself and paying a plumber to install it cost around $150; Precision wanted around $400 for that job, part included.
My real current issue with Precision is that, when they came out to do the annual inspection of my AC yesterday, they kind of acted like used car salesmen. Specifically, they told me that the superheat and subcooling temps were off, even though the system worked fine. At that point, I was offered a choice of $650 or $1450 to attempt to correct the issue by cleaning the coil, but also advised that the age of my system might just warrant a full replacement for $6,000! When I asked what would happen if I just left it running without the repair, I was told that it would just keep working fine untl it eventually broke and stopped working. Fair enough. But when I asked why that wasn't the best course to take, I was told that the new unit would cost more in the future because Precision's sale on AC units was ending that day! Bear in mind, I have been a Precision Service Member (which costs $240/year) for many years. The fact that they would treat a longtime customer that way (""buy it today or the price will go up!"") really left a bad taste in my mouth, and made me feel like I was being taken advantage of.
Overall, I have had many positive dealings with Precision, and as I said at the outset, I have no regrets about using them for my furnace. But they should be clear about whether or not their plumbers are paid on commission, and if they're going to charge $240/year for ""premium customer service,"" that service shouldn't ever include telling customers that if they don't buy something today that they will pay more for the same item tomorrow.
