The company was created on June 1, 1973, by Gladston Mealor and his son, Sidney, at 166 Buford Drive in Lawrenceville. The small business started with four employees, including Glad and Sid, focusing on counter sales and delivery.

PDI secured its status as a distributor for American Standard on February 13, 1976. This partnership significantly enhanced PDI's reputation. With the American Standard line, we proved our competitiveness in the plumbing market. It also enabled PDI to acquire other prominent plumbing brands like A.O. Smith water heaters and later Aqua Glass bath fixtures.

With PDI's growth, the need for a bigger facility became apparent. Our goal was to keep our presence near our original location in Lawrenceville. We obtained a property in a developing industrial park off Collins Hill Road, which offered convenient access to Georgia Highway 316. From 1984 to 2006, PDI's Corporate Headquarters were situated at 20 Collins Hill Road, but once again, to accommodate growth, we needed to relocate.
