Every year since July 31, 2012, PIPE SPY Marin, Inc. has proudly held the Diamond Certified® award. This award is granted only to sewer line contractors and local service providers that achieve ""highest in quality"" in a thorough customer satisfaction survey conducted over the past four years.
Every qualifying business must also meet standards for licensing, insurance, complaint status, legal standing, and credit rating (for contractors). To keep the Diamond Certification, American Ratings Corporation carries out ongoing customer satisfaction surveys and credential checks.
From the President: “I was negotiating a merger between a plumbing parts supplier and a service company, intending to create a national franchise. When the parts supplier withdrew, I joined the service company to enhance its financial performance.” According to President Myles O’Dwyer, the most rewarding part of working with sewer lines is tackling the unique challenges that each job brings. “Pipe work varies greatly from one location to another—even if they are adjacent—so it requires thorough investigation and problem-solving to determine the best solutions. Daily challenges keep our work interesting. While some assume that a sewer line replacement necessitates a large trench in the yard, our trenchless capabilities let us burst and replace a pipe without disturbing the surrounding area. “Our customers greatly appreciate having that choice.”

Recommended Customer Reviews

I did a very complimentary review of Pipe Spy in 2014 for doing an excellent job on the sewer lateral from my rental building in San Rafael to the city of San Rafael sewer lines.
Fast forward to August 2024 when I received a notice from the City of San Rafael regarding sewer laterals.
I contacted Myles O'Dwyer at Pipe Spy and asked if they still had the records and the approval from the City of San Rafael. Myles was very helpful! He promptly emailed me the paperwork from 10 years ago attesting to the successful completion of my sewer lateral work. I was happy with Pipe Spy in 2014 AND in 2024. I highly recommend both Myles and Pipe Spy!!!

We had a complicated garage drain/lateral configuration in San Francisco. The PipeSpy Marin team was on top of it and thoughtful in configuring the work and trouble shooting. With all the rain in the Bay Area it was a great investment. Myles and the team are stand up people.

We called out PipeSpy for a quote for a lateral sewer replacement on a new home, having seen surveys they had done for other properties.
No camera was used to see pipes at the time of the quote and unfortunately the Quote was a colossal 26k in total. That amount was 16k higher than the quote from the company we eventually chose to do the work . It's also 10 k above the next highest bid. (All the other competitors were local and widely used and do great work, so the price was just not worth entertaining. Disappointed, maybe they just did not want the work and overbid.

Professional, polite, and congenial from beginning to end. Thrilled that they were very conscientious about Covid-19 safety-related issues in spite of everyone having been vaccinated. They did the job requested and did it to an exacting standard. Courteous employees (so much so that they even brought our garbage bins in for us on garbage day. Seriously? What company has ever done that for you before?) consistently going above and beyond. Nothing was done that wasn't discussed in the estimate and revised estimate. The revision was due to a surprise upon opening up some of the concrete. It happens when someone is working on a property built in 1906 and honestly was not completely unexpected. Everything was clearly delineated in the estimates. All permits obtained, road signs placed, inspections scheduled. Plants carefully removed, set aside, and then replaced beautifully after the work was done. The opening in the street was resurfaced as well as repairs to all of the concrete areas which had needed to be torn up for the upper, lower and additional line sewer lateral replacements. Meaning steps, sidewalk, area in front of the basement door, everything. We should have hired them to redo all of the steps. The areas they repaired look far superior to what was there originally! Thanks, Pipe Spy Marin! We will be giving your name to any of our friends looking for this type of work.

PIPE SPY BREAKS CONTRACTS! My husband and I waited months for contracted work to begin, then Pipe Spy Marin backed away in the 11th hour based on bogus excuses. They appear incapable of repairing common problems. Makes me wonder if they have another agenda. Are they insolvent? In legal trouble? Homophobic? We don't know and likely never will. The Better Business Bureau is posting my complaint on their website. STAY FAR AWAY FROM PIPE SPY!!!

WARNING: Do not hire this company. They gave us a bid and we accepted and signed it with a date for the work to begin, but after 9 1/2 weeks of waiting they broke our signed contract with no real explanation. Do not trust the contract they give you, they will break it, they are not the professionals they claim to be. Their current BBB status won't last long. If Yelp allowed zero stars I would give that rating to Pipe Spy.

The problems haven't stopped. Between the job taking 4 weeks to start, to the start date then being punches back again, then the estimate being increased, and then the staff stopping work and not coming back after we made did the work they refused to do, the problems haven't stopped.

It is hard to know where to begin. The project took so long and there were so many issues with Pipe Spy that pulling it all together in a coherent review seems a daunting task!
The take home message is that there are many other options out there and you should pick someone else.
- project was months and months late.
- they would start the project and then stop with no noice and leave for another job. Eventually they would show up again.
- They kept trying to charge us more. Eventually we said no, we are not paying more. Let's just get it inspected and it passed! Pushing them on this saved another 4K.
- Communication was horrible. I spoke with the owner. Excuses and no understanding of my concerns or interest in fixing the issues. Just did not get it.
They have their list of excuses and some of them are legit. 75% are not.

Truly committed to customer satisfaction.
I had my entire sewer line to the street replaced. We had hoped to stay trenchless, and ended up needing to trench because this is such a tricky area with very little slope. Although there was some confusion in scheduling and in the scope of the project, the response to make it right was terrific. Noe, the on-site manager, was fantastic to work with and communicate with. A very good job at a very competitive price.

This company did work at my neighbors home that was close to our property. It was a huge mess and very inconvenient for months. I used them video our lines and that seemed to go ok.
