I needed to have a gas line moved and a leak in a sink repaired that so called ""professional plumber for 47 years"" could not fix. Called and a tech came out the very same day. Checked out the problem and stated that the work could be done the next day. But then they said the work could be done the same day. That turned out to work even better. Todd completed the work in a very timely and professional manner. I am very pleased and would definitely recommend them. Great job!
Nicole W.Another day, another super sexy home service review!
A few months back, I took a cold shower. Not by choice. And when I say cold, I mean all of sudden the water was frigid. Not from a flushed toilet or a running sink, friends. As in no.more.hot.water. Within minutes of showering in an alpine-like state, my husband and I called Nick's for an appointment to take a look at our water heater. A few appointments later, we had a new water heater and some previously-wrongly installed plumbing addressed.
Nick, Todd and Jake were all friendly and worked efficiently to get the job(s) done! They explained things in laymen's terms and were thorough in all of the install. I very much appreciate the extra time spent on the little things that weren't originally in our estimate, too. Big ups for fairness. Our water heater was installed just right and I was supremely happy to shower without worry of hypothermia.
My only qualm with Nick's (and with, frankly, so many other home service repair folks/contractors), is timeliness. They were over an hour late for our first appointment and I was called right before our second appointment and they asked to push it back 3 hours. It's hard enough to take time away from work to be home for service appointments, but it's even harder when the appointment time frame is a moving target.
Nick completed 4 projects for me. Just the facts on those 4 projects:
1. Kitchen sink plumbing to accommodate a farmhouse sink: Because Nick did not properly connect the pipes, a major leak was created in the wall behind the sink. When I called him to let him know there was a leak he told me it was because ""my pipes were old"" without even seeing the problem in person. Worried that I was being conned, I called another plumber to get a second opinion. When he opened up the wall he said the pipes were improperly connected causing the leak- a problem caused by Nick's work, not the old pipes. I had another, independent contractor on site who verified this. This cost me several hundred dollars to fix on top of the money Nick had charged to do the work in the first place. Additionally, he and his workers made a crude cut (not clean, requiring extra work to patch) into the wall and did not clean up their mess.
2. Install new water heater: The water heater was installed quickly. However Nick left a mess of packing material plus the old water heater in my basement. He told me that he would take the old water heater with him and clean up the mess, however it took several weeks before he actually came back to complete the job. Additionally, when my fireplace inspectors came to do their inspection, they told me that he had installed an incorrectly sized water heater for the fireplace I had in place (through which the water heater connects to the outside). I was advised to purchase a sleeve to ensure toxic gasses didn't back up into my home or to get a properly sized water heater. I would assume that a proper plumber would know the correct size to have installed and would not put my family at risk by installing an incorrect unit.
3. Replace leaky plumbing near sump pump: This job was completed correctly and has not caused any further issues.
4. Replace broken valve in antique sink: Nick ordered a replacement part for the sink which was broken. He told me to get the exact match we had to order it from a specialty company. When the replacement part installation was complete, I realized that it was not an exact match. The size of the parts were significantly smaller than the original and now the sink looked corroded and gross because the new parts didn't cover the same surface area. When I asked Nick about it he said that he ""wasn't concerned with aesthetics."" Well I want my powder room sink to look nice after spending quite a bit of money on new parts! For the money I spent I would have easily been able to buy a brand new sink (which I ended up doing because the replacement parts Nick installed were so ill fitting and unsightly).
When I called the company to request a modest discount for the major errors that I had to pay to fix and even emailed the company pictures of the proof the other plumber took for me, they declined to give me any discount. Why in the world would I want a company who completed such shoddy work in the fist place to ""fix"" the work they had done.
I would recommend you stay away from this company. They are completely untrustworthy.
We had a problem with toilet leaking. We called Nick's Residential Service and Nick diagnosed the problem over the phone and scheduled an appointment. Todd came out and knew exactly how to fix our issue and provided me with helpful solutions to two other minor plumbing problems. Todd was polite, courteous, and very knowledgable. We will definitely use Nick's Residential Service for future plumbing issues.
we've used Nicks twice now and both times we had very good experiences. He fixes the problem and does not do unwanted work. We called in the morning and they were out that afternoon and fixed the problem. When I asked for his opinion on how to fix a slow shower head he suggested that I would be able to fix it myself with very little effort. I followed his instructions and now the shower flows great. His suggestion was after one of the big, ""reputable"" companies had already visited and wasn't able to fix it even after working on it and charging us $600 for the privilege. He could've easily charged us more money to fix the simple problem, but took another choice instead that save us some bucks.
Called Nick based on a neighbor's referral and couldn't be happier. He fixed a wicked bathtub clog, quickly and affordably, and was very nice in the process. We'll certainly use him again and share his info with anyone in need of a friendly, honest and prompt plumber. Thanks Nick,
I would give it a -5 stars if that's an option for that. I have an appointment with him. He never shows up. I even confirmed the appointment 30 mins beforehand. I called him multiple times when I was patiently waiting for him, but no answer; texted him, no reply!!! I waited for an hour , no show!!!
That's just irresponsible!
Great service from Nick. He replaced a bad sump pump in under an hour, didn't overcharge me and was super nice. Would definitely recommend him to anyone!
David R.I'm going to stick to facts here and do my best to leave out opinion.
Well, one opinion, Nick seems like a nice guy, so i'll give him a couple of stars for that.
Called on April 9th in the morning. Spoke to him by 3pm that same day and scheduled an appointment for 10am that next day. He was prompt.
He arrived with an assistant to review my clogged kitchen drain. Made several statements about how it wasn't up to code.
He spent approximately 20-30 mins. using his rodding machine and two separate attachments. He was unsuccessful getting my drain unclogged and suggested major damage might be the cause of the drain not working. Tossed out a couple ideas about the potential to dig up the kitchen or the ground outside to replace my drain connection to the sewer...he thought there might be a broken pipe. He suggested contacting the village to get the inspector to come by my house and have a meeting with him to determine which corrective course of action would be allowed. I called the village and they said they only send out inspectors AFTER a permit has been applied for. I phoned Nick that same day and spoke to him about the situation. I requested a quote on the two scenarios that he proposed. He agreed to do this. I have not heard back and it's April 24th. I was charged $180 for an unsuccessful rodding attempt.
Fast forward one day and I feel, hey, maybe I need a second opinion. I called the company my village utilizes for their work. The guy goes out of his way and calls me after 7pm and talks to me about my situation for about 30 minutes. We schedule him to come in on April 11th and he spends about 45 minutes rodding my pipe because he concludes it's likely just a clogged pipe. He is successful in clearing the blockage. He also says my configuration is not up to code (as Nick said too), but says that's not what was causing the blockage. He charged me $220 for a successful rodding job (and likely that phone conversation the night before! haha).
Like I said, I tried to keep to the facts here. You guys make the choice. PM me and I'll give you the guy's name I used. I'll be fair and not post it here on his review page.
I called Nick after reading the reviews here. He came out on a Sunday morning and rodded a clogged 50' pipe for us. He did a great job for a fair price. He is honest and friendly. I would highly recommend his services.
