Pam M.We have used Mr. Rooter several times for our small apartment unit we own and live in ourselves. They have always been very responsive and make our renters and me, very happy. We travel extensively and have had to call them from California- I know I can trust them to take care of any emergencies. Mr. Rooter is the only company we will use.
Laurie S.I used these guys in 2005 for a water heater issue and they did a great job then. I would definitely hire these folk again.
Sunday evening my kitchen and utility room sink started backing up, we figured it to be a simple clog that could be snaked so we made due and I began the annoying process of calling for a plumber on Monday morning.
Most places either wanted to charge me as a emergency call or I'd have to wait until Wednesday or even Friday. Then I recalled that we used Mr. Rooter prior and gave them a call, once again it was a great decision, they were able to get me on the schedule for the next day. So yesterday Chris arrives and went right to work. While working on our utility room sink the trap broke. Keeping in mind our house is rather older and things break however, rather than complain, add to our bill or put any delay on the work Chris politely excused himself and off to LOWES to purchase a new trap, returned and completed the work. Once the utility room was finished he proceeded to the kitchen and oh heck if for some reason while working on that sink the faucet broke off. Once again no complaints, no owner blame and no delay, he just simply excused himself and off to get a new faucet. When all the work was finished he made sure everything was tidy and made sure all the parts working and we were satisfied.
I'd like to actually give an extra atta boy pat on the shoulder to Chris, from start to finish he was polite, quite, neat, informative and professional. He came in with dirt free slip on shoe slippers, explained everything, gave a bid. I approved the bid and to work he went and even through two unforeseen cliches he remained professional and stayed in the bid. I now have these guys in my contacts under plumber so if we should need work done again that I won't think twice I'll just call Mr. Rooter.
Allen Q.Had them out to replace my water heater and the overflow valve leaked for quite some time. Just had them back out today and the tech left without saying a word. I waited for a couple hours to take showers and still no hot water so I went to check his work. The guy forgot to turn the breaker back on so we don't have any hot water still and all the kids are coming back from practice with school in the morning. Slackers, should pay more attention to the impact of their actions on their customers lives.
Initially, I had them come out and had them tell me why the sewer was backing up. The first guy came and tried to run a snake down from the master bathroom which I had currently torn apart for remodeling. The service guy informed me his snake would only go through a little ways. Then he said that he was going have to have someone come out with a sewer camera to see why he could not get it to go through. I had asked him about how much was that going to cost and I was told it could be as high as $1,500. I told the guy to forget it as I will find another plumbing company to come out. When the guy with the camera came he could not get it past a 90 degree elbow. He stated it would have to have another person come out and locate the access in the front of the house.
When that guy came and informed me there was now access outside. I ascertained how much it would cost to put one in. He stated about $450. So I had the work done, but not until 2 days later. Meanwhile I was still having in sewer problems getting toilets to flush.
So in hopes of expediting this process, I dug the hole so the guy could get to the repairing of the line sooner. After digging the hole where I could get to the drain pipe, I left it alone for the guy to finish when he came back. Not sure why it was done, but as I dug I found the water supply line with a shutoff valve 4ft down. Why there was a valve down there, I do not know. It was probably done with my wife's brother built the house.
Now the guy came to insert the sewer access. When he was finished the guy with the camera would come back and snake the camera down the sewage pipe. Approximately 8.5ft later at an elbow the pipe was broken and sewage was getting caught up on it. Now we had a particular reason as to why the sewage was backing up.
Next day a worker came out dug the trench to get to that pipe. Approximately 9 hours later the pipe was fixed. This time we left the trench open until the camera guy came back. Later that same day, the camera guy came back and I observed the process begin. It was good pipe for approximately 5 feet after the elbow where the pipe was initially busted. Then we could see the pipe collapsing on itself. We were able to get the camera by the collapsing area, but that area was approximately 60 feet long. He continued to run the camera further down the pipe until he came to an area where it looked like a larger piece of the pipe had totally busted and turned 90 degrees. Now this is approximately 142 feet out. He was able to get the camera to continue and we could see what our sewer pipe ran into the city's sewer system.
Now, they had told us that the job with cost approximately $11,000 to get the repair done. I told them I needed to get someone else out here and give us an estimate. The price was reduced to $8,000 and when I called a friend of mine who was a plumber had told me that was a good price. So we started the process of digging and repairing all pipe all the way down to that broken piece of pipe.
It turned out that where the broken piece of pipe was, it was the drain pipe of the house next door who had cut into our pipe and cemented in place. Now, they told me it would up the price would definitely go back up to $11,000. I was told the neighbor would have to front another $3,000 on top of what they were trying to increase mine to. I told them they could pack up and go home as I would get another plumbing service to come and finish. They dropped our price back down to the $8,000 that was originally quoted.
Then, when one of the workers came up to me, he explained that the neighbor was being charged another $3,000 for having to dig the hole. I tried to talk them out of it as the neighbor was an elderly lady who had lost her husband recently. It was a no go. I still feel bad about that. They were already digging the hole for me and then they charged her for the same hole they were digging for me. I thought that was kind of sucky.
They had to cut a path into my driveway to dig out for the sewer pipe. Near the end of the job I was told they would not replace the cement in the driveway. This was another failure to communicate with the customer. So all in all, I think this will be another company who will not make their way to our residence in the future.
Elijah W.Scott just left my House. I had a question about my shower and he told me what he thought was wrong and also what could be wrong if that didn't work out. I figured yeah why not let's go with the one that could be wrong to avoid the second one Before we did that I had about 4 to 5 questions about other plumbing issues. He answered all of them without any problem.
He finished the job that day, was very courteous and the finished product is fantastic. I don't know what other Yelpers had problems with this company, but my experience was fantastic. Just to be safe, maybe ask for Scott.
Lisa R.I wish I could give this company zero stars. This was the first and last time they will ever provide an estimate for me. The technician looked under the sink for about a minute and told my wife and I it would cost around $750 just to snake the drain. He complained about having to remove certain pieces of piping and had a very long face when I said we had already taken out a good portion of the PVC to try to clean it and put it back. He said ""well any plumber is going to tell you the same thing"". It wasn't clear to me if the guy was being lazy and gave an outrageous price because he didn't want to be bothered, thought we were stupid because we are women or was simply incompetent. My wife and I do most fixes ourselves and I can quickly gauge when someone is trying to take advantage. Perhaps these guys work on commission? That would explain the outrageous estimate. If you want an excellent, cost reasonable plumber, call Ally Plumbing! Ally Plumbing snaked the drain, removed the old disposal and repiped all the PVC under the sink for better flow for about the same price Mr. Rooter quoted just to try to snake the drain. Go with Ally!
We had them come out for a simple kitchen faucet installation. I was going to do the work, but because the space under the sink was cramped my achy back wouldn't allow me to complete the work. I had removed the existing faucet so the only work needed was to hook up the hot and cold water supply on the new faucet I had purchased and join the water spray line with the connection supplied with the faucet.
I had to be gone during the time the plumber came. He quoted my wife $400 to do a job that could have easily been done in less than one hour. The worker was courteous and competent. However, if she could have reached me I would have cancelled the work order.
I would not recommend Mr. Rooter for small routine jobs. Check with your local plumber first, you may get a more reasonable price. In any case, get a firm estimate before doing any work.
After speaking with the supervisor, and voicing my complaint he agreed to reduce the charge for the small job we had.
i had mr rooter come in and put my water heater in took about 3 hours very nice young man went right to work on the problem not haveing hot water for months yes i was happy about that my question was i never got a statement so i didnt know what all i was being charge for never had that happen before .. nice mr rooter told me he could do some of the work under the table and it would cost me less..so like a fool i fell for it and gave him 250.00 now i dont know if he was for real or not so people do fall for that line like i did..because i do think i was taken like a real fool so mr Rooter could you send me my 250 . back
I may not know a great deal about plumbing, but I can spot blatant fraud. After showing up four and a half hours late, they quoted me a comically ludicrous amout for a very quick and simple job installing a garbage disposal. When I declined, they had the grotesque audacity to demand $39 in cash just for showing up. (An amount I was never informed of in writing or verbally, so good luck with that.) I now have a local guy doing the job for LESS THAN A THIRD THE PRICE of what these scam artists wanted. I will never do buisiness with this company again, and neither should you. I would give them 0 stars if it was possible.
My main sewer line needs a clean-out. I called Mr. Rooter. They would not give me an estimate over the phone. They said they would send a technician out for a no-cost no-obligation estimate. I confirmed this several times with their dispatcher. The technician arrived and gave me an estimate for more than $500 just to snake out the drain! I asked them for a discount and he would only go down to $300! So, I said ""thank you"" but no thanks. With that, he said that I owed him a service call fee. I replied absolutely not! I thanked him again for his time and sent him on his way. In fairness to the company, I called back the dispatcher to tell her I was unhappy that he tried to charge me a service call fee. I then informed her of my intent to write this review. BEWARE of calling Mr. Rooter in Tacoma, WA
