Mike D.We called in a plumber to diagnose our hot water heater issue as it goes from hot to cold to hot again. The person came out and first, his service demeanor was great he was super nice and friendly and all that good stuff.
He arrived about an hour or so late which slightly disrupted some tasks that I had for the day but not horribly, had this been the only issue - they would have gotten a 4 star rating at worst.
When the plumber arrived, we had a hard time recreating the problem though it was like clockwork for my wife and I (Murphy's law hitting us hard). So the plumber offered to do a quick descaling and flush to service the the heater. He told me a quote on the pricing and we had some sort of misscommunication as I thought that the service cost was 48.50 which sounded minor enough to go ahead and see if this helped (he even broke it down when he said it as four, eight point fifty - maybe even said point five O). It seamed cheap but I thought maybe that was the cost of the solution and then Id pay him another $75-$150 to do the work (Id happily pay 150-200 for a PM service like this). He was straight up in explaining that he did not know if this would fix the issue but it could be worth a shot. He did the work and then I paid and the total ended up being $487.50 which was well off of our budget. If I had heard that number I would probably have discussed other options of replacing the heater or I would have called and HVAC person to troubleshoot the electrical as the plumber said that diagnosing specific issues is not something that the plumbers do. So while the people were very nice, the service was missunderstood and I am not happy at all at paying $500 dollars for 30 minutes of pumping a solution through my hot water heater. I hope that it is fixed and we have no more issues but my only warning for you is to get a written quote before you begin.
Looking at the reviews it looks like the $500 is about their minimum pricing to do anything.
This company has been great to work with in the past but now I need to really pay close attention to the quotes and also, I should maybe go through an HVAC person in the future as they told me that to diagnose specific problems with the heater was out of their realm of expertise.
Hard lessons learned today - don't be me!
After reading through the reviews it looks like this company is a very high priced plumber to work through. It is a franchise meaning that they have to pay a lot of franchise fees and other stuff that costs them without adding a service to customers like us. Not sure if my mind can be changed but we will be changing our plumber and going with a local small company rather than a franchise that I am paying for some marketing people. At least then if I pay $500 for 30 minutes of work, I know that it goes directly to my community and not paying some firm in Oklahoma and New York to create logos and marketing strategies, etc.. Like I said, get a written quote and then check that quote against your local plumbers, Ill bet they match or beat that pricing easily
I write this review without actually using their service. I had purchased a new toilet and shower head, needed to have them installed, and old toilet removed. My tech was very nice and showed up on time. The reason for the 1 star was their pricing! $479 to install and remove a toilet, which should take about an hour. I declined the service, and was able to find a reasonable price from a local company in town. Which I should have done in the first place, shop local.
Replaced our sewer line and laundry room plumbing. Work was completed on time and price was as quoted in the estimate. Patrick and Kevin are the best. Highly recommend them
Rep was on time, but quote to replace my water heater was not only inaccurate but was also 45% in cost than what I got it done for with a local company same day. I was told that materials were were scarce and when asked if the cost was competitive I was told ' I don't know, but it is OUR cost and it is based off a national average '. Perhaps they specialize in other areas, but I would not recommend them for a water heater replacement.
I started using Mr Rooter at my business several months ago. I have been extremely happy with their professionalism, services and costs. They are a locally owned company that cares about their product. They have gone above and beyond to solve an ongoing issue that another company and I have been working on for years. I highly recommend them.
We called on a Sunday morning because we had water squirting from the pipe in back of house. The answering service said they would contact someone, who would call us back. After 90 minutes, we called back and were told they had no one available. It would have been nice to get a call back with that info. In the meantime, water keeps gushing out.
I made an appointment and took the day off to be home to have my drains serviced. I was given a two hour window and was updated prior to the appointment. The office assistant was pleasant and professional. However, after the window was closed and no one arrived, I received a call informing me that the techs were we're tied up and we're not going to be able to make it to my house. The office assistant asked if they could reschedule for another day; however, I have limited vacation time, I decided to call another company. They could have at least offered to give me a discount for my trouble. I will not be able to refer this company.
Greg J.Well, I have always used Mr Rooter in Monterey and was always pretty happy with their services. In December I was notified by Cal Am that my water bill for a rental unit was over $700.00 and only 2 people lived there. I called Mr. Rooter, they came out quickly, they did the investigation, and found no leak. I paid them the $479,00 for the service and went back to Cal Am and told them that there was no leak, Mr Rooter told me there was not. Cal Am came out the next day, and did a 2 minute test to find that one of the toilets was running constantly, you could not hear it, but they found it right away. I sent the results of that test to Mr Rooter, and Isabel, the office manager was very nice, asked me to send in all of the information. She called 2 weeks later, and said that they did not show payment of that service, so I sent her the check that was cashed by them, and she told me that the owner would be sending out my refund.
I They came out and did not find the problem, but there was a problem!!
And since then they came to the plate and were very nice about the misunderstanding, refunded the money. I am happy when a business reacts this way. I will continue using them because they are an honest business in our community!
Jon K.Supposed to be 24/7 service. Tech said he would be out in 1-1.5hrs. 3 hours later and no one showed up after multiple calls to the tech and dispatch. Dispatch tried to connect me to someone and I had no idea who it was ... then she hung up. Horrible service. Do not call. Hard pass.
