Watch how Mike writes the contracts! He gets the majority of the money than he starts taking vacations from the job, dragging it on and on, then when the building inspector comes the job doesn't pass!! so more delays incredible. Then when it's time for him to come back, there's not enough money left to collect for him to do it, so you're left looking for a plumber to do a small job in the middle of the season for what you owe MPT to do it. It's like looking for $3.00 a gallon gas, good luck, half at start and half on completion is the best way to do it. Stan Vorgias skv const
I was referred to this company by a very good friend who knows the owner.
1st issue (1/2/21) -- The plumbing issue was to clean out the water lines due to sediment buildup from an old water softener. I agreed to the work however at $225 per hour and in addition they add surcharge to pick up facets at the local Home Depot. Total cost of the job was $2350
The point is, they are arrogant and when I asked if I could go and but the replacement facets their answer was ""well we will still be here waiting for you to return at $225 per hour"". ABSOLUTLEY NO CUSTOMER SERVICE!
2nd issue (2/11/21) they replaced the thermocouple on the hot water heater since the pilot light would not stay on. Later that evening the pilot light went out again. When I call the owner MIKE to see what the solution was he only answer was the replace the water heater at $1500
He si very arrogant any explained to me that they get 5 STAR reviews. Well this time they get 1 STAR review for no customer service and ""insulting me"" with a reference to McDonalds. Oh well, live and learn but will NEVER recommend this business to anyone in the future.
Eric S.While ""knowledgeable"" in the area of plumbing, owner was absolutely arrogant and demanding. Refused to answer my questions until I agreed to pay $225 for 5 minutes worth of work. He knew I was in a bind and bent me over. Im not trusting this company for anything else in the future.
On top of that, absolutely unprofessional criticism of the previous plumbers work, which made a mistake that HE profited big time off of.
Long story short: original plumber came in and installed a new rough in valve during a bathroom remodel and forgot to put the mixer valve in. Had no hot water. Called these guys because our regular plumber wasn't available. Basically this guy knew off the bat what the issue was, and when I asked if I needed to call in the original plumber, what the fix was, how long it would take, etc. He deflected all my questions until I agreed to pay him to fix it.
So now my $90 service call was $225 and it took him all of 5 minutes to repair. Could have just said ""here's the issue, call your guy out and have him install it"" and made almost a hundred bucks for zero labor and went about his business. But nope. Had to go the extra mile of being sneaky and withhold information to make the price more than double.
We've had the pleasure of working with some great companies since becoming first time homeowners. Unfortunately this dude was a grade A jagoff.
Won't do business with again. I hope the apprentice working with him goes elsewhere.
John B.We posted a request/recommendation for plumbers in the Lake in the Hills area on Huntley Chat on Facebook about 930 at night and we received a message back from Heather literally within a few minutes!
We were able to book that night for the next morning!
Ian and Nick were great!
They were very courteous and safe and the price was reasonable and affordable!
I highly recommend them!
Andy F.Woke up to a completely drained hot water tank. It had cracked and been leaking. I called MPT and they were able to come out the same day and get a new one put in. Great customer service in talking with Heather on the phone. Mike and another plumber arrived right on time. They did the work perfectly and left the area clean. There pricing and rates were reasonable. I would highly recommend using MPT for your plumbing needs.
Sandy R.I called MPT because my water pressure was very low, so I figured something was wrong. When Mike and his assistant arrived, he told me I had a leak (a leak - singular, not plural). I handed him my phone with the video running so he could video the leak for me to see, which he did. As he gave me a quick overview of what he needed to do, he made it sound like it was a bigger job than it was by what he said and how he said it. He quoted me $500 and based on what he said (well, I have to go around this and do that, etc.), I expected them to be there for hours. When they were done with the job less than an hour later, they came up from the basement and I asked Mike how much of the money charged was for materials. He said about $70. Then I asked him if the job took less time than he originally anticipated, and he said ""no"". When I pointed out that his hourly rate was over $400 per hour, he said that he bids it by the job and not the hour. His assistant said that he can do it so fast because he has 30 years of union experience and implied that's what I'm paying for. Mike also continued to defend his pricing, but I felt I was being ripped off. Being a middle-aged woman alone, standing in her kitchen with two big men, I felt I had no choice but to give over my credit card.
As they were leaving, I went over to my neighbor who was out in the yard, to get his opinion about what I'd been charged. He thought I'd been overcharged and gave me the number to his plumber. I got another plumber's number from another neighbor as well. These are the plumbers who gave me the quotes referred to above. There was also a big puddle that MPT did not clean up that I mentioned to one of the plumbers. That plumber told me it should have been cleaned up and he would have done that if it was on a job he did.
After that, I texted Mike and subsequently spoke with Heather on the phone. Heather told me the reason I was charged what I was, was because I had 3 leaks. I told her that there was only one leak and I had the video to prove it. (Obviously she wasn't aware I had video). Then she told me that charges are also based on travel time and having to go out and get supplies for the job. I live only 2.6 miles away from them, which I pointed out to her, and that the only place they went for supplies was their own van parked in front of my house. So, then she says that they already gave me a $100 discount, as the job should have been $600. After one lame excuse after the other, then I really got mad. She finally asked me how about $400? And I said it was not enough. At this point, I was done with her, as they were still overcharging me.
I reported all the details to the BBB and they lowered their rating, which I'm sure they don't do without justification. Copy and paste this link for BBB: https://www.bbb.org/us/il/algonquin/profile/plumber/mpt-plumbing-inc-0654-88588602
Recently, I shared my experience on FaceBook when someone was looking for a plumber and others had recommended this company. Heather, the office manager and girlfriend of Mike (The ""M"" in MPT) commented saying that I had bullied her, tried to extort her, was a miserable person and that I was looking for a ""handout"". I was looking for fair pricing! Informing her that I would be posting reviews online is NOT extortion. A real piece of work!
These guys are the best. Last year my basement flooded and they came to the rescue with about an hours notice on a weeknight. They replaced the sump pump, drained and cleaned up the water and even resolved another surprise issue with the well and gravel that kept jamming up the pump. The new sump pump works great.
Today they fixed some problems with my water heater. I assumed the water heater needed to be replaced, but they came out and pointed out it was a problem with some corroded leaking pipes leading to the water heater. They showed up early and got everything fixed and cleaned up. Both times they were affordable, helpful and thorough, making sure everything was resolved before they left.
Tom F.OVER PRICED!! STAY AWAY!!
This company required a 59$ fee to over bid my small project. After receiving a 600$ quote for 1 hr of work I said NO. In the Pic you can see in the circle is what is damaged and needs to be replaced. The red lines show where the cut needs to be made. I feel like I was scammed, and they did not have change for my 60$. I guess if you over bid 5 projects in an hour your still making 300$. Use Friendly Plumbing, much better company.
Called MPT Plumbing to replace my 30 gallon water heater which was leaking (on the phone I had mentioned that I am looking to replace it ASAP). I was told that there is a service charge of $59 for the visit, which I agreed to pay. Mike showed up and he seemed to be in a hurry from the moment he walked in. Didn't answer any of my wife's questions properly. But most importantly, we were told that both the 30 and 40 gallon heaters are back ordered and would take a couple of weeks. This is something which could have been easily mentioned over the phone when I initially called. Total rip-off.
Rose L.Christmas Day party uncovered a leak underneath my mom's kitchen sink. We called around the next day and no other plumbing service picked up their phone. We tried MPT and, luckily, they had someone working the phones. By 10 AM the next morning, we had friendly Michael and Brad at our door. They were professional and courteous, and quick. On top of that - helpful with a few other pesky leaks and issues. Great service, great advice, reasonable rate, and even a solid referral for an issue with the stove. Highly recommend Michael and team. Thanks for all the help!
