Company Overview

In 1991, brothers Kenny and Jerry Bell launched Moore Home Services in Sacramento, CA. After more than 25 years in the industry, we now specialize in plumbing, ductwork, insulation, and window services in addition to heating and air. With over $5,000,000 in Home Energy Upgrade rebates awarded to our customers, we have become a key player in California's Home Energy Upgrade Program for utilities like SMUD and PG&E. Currently, we operate 140 service vehicles and employ 200 dedicated professionals who serve the greater Sacramento area and its seven neighboring counties, as well as Hayward and the Bay Area. No surprise that we offer a satisfaction guarantee every single day of the year to our clients.

Jerry and Kenny Bell began their journey in HVAC school in Phoenix, Arizona, in 1982, learning the essentials of heating and air. After finishing at the top of their class, they began working in the trades to acquire hands-on experience. They opened a pizza parlor in their hometown in 1985, all while continuing to work for local HVAC contractors. The year 1991 marked the founding of Moore Home Services, beginning with one old pizza delivery truck turned service vehicle and a phone book advertisement. They prepared pizzas and anticipated service calls, promptly changing their shirts to assist customers as soon as the phone rang. The HVAC operation relocated from the pizza shop to a dedicated facility in 1995, where they hired their initial staff. Their aim was to become the leading heating and cooling service provider in the region. Today, Moore Home Services stands as the largest heating and air conditioning company in the Sacramento area.

Founded over 28 years ago by two brothers, Moore Home Services was built on the dream of creating a family of customers who receive unparalleled service and satisfaction guaranteed.

Our mission has always been to deliver the finest heating and air services, now including plumbing, sewer, window replacement, ductwork, and insulation. What sets us apart is our dedication to ongoing, high-quality training for our technicians, who take great pride in their work and the care they provide for your home. Experience the difference with Moore Home Services.

Not sure why all the bad reviews. My water heater had a thermophile die on me. McDonald's operator informed me that it's $49 for a visit and it's applied to any repair charges I may need. Carlos came out the same day, at 12 noon on the dot as scheduled. He immediately diagnosed the problem and told me to order the part from the manufacturer as it is under warranty and he'll install it. This is the cheapest way to do it.

I called the manufacturer who tells me that they do not ship to home owners and the contractor must pick it up at a regional supplier. So I call Carlos back and he said he'll look into it. One hour later, he calls back with the solution, he'll order and pick up the part and install it, but it'll come out to $850 (They will apply the $49 already paid, so it'll be about $800). The other option is to replace the water heater, which he did not advise as it was $2200. I agreed to the part and two days later, Carlos picked up the part and installed it, had it running 17 mins into our appointment. They also have a 10% off coupon for first time customers. He also advised, don't keep your water heater thermostat on low as it burns out the thermophile, so I will keep it on hot from now on (the gas price difference per month is about a few cents a month).

Fast service, competent work, and all prices were disclosed prior to even doing it and there are ample discounts here and there. For those who can fix their appliances with $20 worth of supplies, good for you. For those who cannot, like me, having someone fix a water heater in three days, the price they charged was easy to swallow. Thanks Carlos and thanks McDonald!

McDonald Heating and Air replaced our A/C unit and replaced all the ductwork two years ago, and replaced our leaking water heater last month. They have been very competent, professional, and considerate, and they showed up when they say they said they would. They've done very high quality for us, and I recommend them.

I agree with other customers that said they would gives 0 stars but couldn't use less than one. Our AC unit stopped working the night before the 4th of July. Naturally, we couldn't get anyone out on the 4th of July when it had been over 100 all week. So we scheduled an appointment for the day after (Friday). After waiting for hours, my husband called, and he was told they didn't have any appointment set up for us. They told us no one works there by the name he was given, and they assured us we would have an appointment scheduled between 12 and 2 on Saturday. At 2:30 my husband calls to see what the deal is, and once again we were told we didn't have an appointment scheduled. We've never used them before and I can assure you we won't ever use their services in the future.

Excellent! AC went out Sat night, after the heat wave. Called Monday morning, and a technician came out in two hours! Joe gave me a courtesy call, and after inspecting the problem, he advised me that given the repair cost and the heavy corrosion on the sides, it made fiscal sense to replace the unit. Furthermore, he advised that I do not need a 13+ SEER unit, given the wiring is for 10 SEER. No need to spend extra money. He also came back in two days, on his own schedule, to replace the unit! He is very professional, personable, and knowledgeable. If you call McDonald, ask for Joe!

I was very pleased recently with the installation of a new heating and air conditioning unit by McDonald PHAC. The technicians who came to the house to explain the process were very professional, knowledgeable and courteous. The installers had the same qualities; they were hard working and very helpful in answering my questions. From the initial appointment to actual installation, I was impressed by how quickly the work was completed. I have been a customer of McDonald for over 12 years and have been very satisfied with their work. It is reassuring to know I can count on them for dependable service. Dorothy Sugimoto

If I could give negative stars I would. Bottom line, stay away from this company. The technician came out and spent more time evaluating my neighborhood and property value than listening to my explanation of the problem. Called for a simple heater repair. Glanced at the heater, announced that it was 20 years old (I had mentioned that we had been in the house 3 years as I initially got a lot of questions on the house, but the original owner left a lot of equipment documents, and when I pulled heater info found it was 14 years old) and pushed for me to buy a new $8,000 unit. After stating that this was NOT going to happen, I was sold a pressure switch for $352, including installation which was working when he left, but when I got home from work, the heater was again not working. I called to report this and had a call back from a different tech that stated he could not come out that night. The next day the original tech called me in the morning and agreed to meet me on my lunch hour. At that inspection he determined that the mother board was bad and the replacement cost was approximately $700. Again, he pushed for me to buy a new $8,000 replacement unit. Again, I said no way was that an option. He said he would have to check on the exact price of the part based on my heater model. I had to get back to work so I said fine, call me with the amount, leave a message stating the price if I don't pick up. He called late that day but didn't leave a price. Next day is Thursday and I have been without heat all week, missed a morning of work, making a fire in a freezing house each night, running space heaters. At this point I decide I need another opinion, so I called the outfit that installed it 14 years ago and found they are still in business. They came out today, Saturday, and found the pressure switch installed by McDonald to be non-functional. They installed one that works (for less $) and the heater has been working fine. What a scam! Install a part that doesn't work and use that as justification to sell you more and more expensive non-working (I assume) parts until you do what they want you to in the first place, buy a new unit. Thank goodness I listened to my instincts and called somebody else. Then I googled and saw all these horrible reviews. Which I usually do first, but I had met the owner at a Cal Expo home show a couple of years ago and he seemed like a decent, honest guy so I had the impression that it was a good company. Boy was I wrong.

Learning the hard way that I should've checked these reviews before calling this company.
Our heat went out a few weeks ago on one of the coldest days of the year. The tech told my husband the problem was just a ""loose fuse"" which he pushed back into place, then asked for $200. My husband was able to talk him down on that, at which point the tech mentioned that we would probably need a new circuit board ""sometime soon."" That evening, the heat worked for about 5 hours before it stopped again. When we called McDonald the next morning, we were told they wouldn't come check it again, that we just needed to order the circuit board and they'd install it ""in a few days"" when it came in. Oh, and all of this to the tune of $700. No thanks. We called another company who promptly came out and fixed the problem within hours for a fraction of the cost.
The one star is for the dispatcher who was really pleasant. Everything else was a bust.

One star because you can't give less
Had them out over the summer to fix a problem with my AC. Also signed up for the winter and summer check ups for the next year. Got a reminder call late in December. Finally able to get the winter check up for middle of January as they don't do the service on Saturdays. Appointment window from 2-4pm and gave them my cell phone to call to advise when tech on the way. Got a call on my house phone at 320pm stating that the time today for my appointment between 3-5pm was not going to work as their tech was stuck on a call, getting heat to an elderly woman in Sacramento. Informed Jennifer that my time was from 2-4pm, and she stated it was from 3-5pm on her books. First they randomly just changed my time. Secondly why did they do that when they were never going to honor the appointment to begin with. I informed her that this was not acceptable and I demanded a tech arrive before my 4pm schedule. She also tried to offer me waiting around again for a tech to arrive at my convenience on Saturday, which I wasn't offered originally. Advised them they shouldn't over book appointments or have a tech to assist with emergencies. She babbled about how they do have an emergency tech who was off this week for personal reasons. I demanded a phone call from a supervisor within 5 minutes, which didn't happen. When the owner Neal did call back he facetiously told me a tech wouldn't be arriving by 4pm as they don't have helicopters. He didn't apologize, basically said he would refund the money in a check and send it in the mail tomorrow. I was treated very poorly by both Jennifer and Neal and would not recommend anyone using this business.

I can not believe that I was lied to by what I thought was a reputable company being that they have been in business for many years. When I called to get an estimate to see how much it would cost to have our line 'snaked'. I was told that the Diagnostic fee would be $49.50, but that if the plumber did the work, the fee would be waived and it would be $160 for one line, $205 for an additional line and more if there were more lines. Now, my home only has one bathroom, one line.... why did the plumber tell us it was going to cost over $260!! What an absolute waste of time!!
My advise, read EVERY single yelp review before making a call for help.

I would also give a minus star if possible. Requested service for a running toilet in the master bath and take a look at the other two since the service call would cost the same. Result: no simple fix and no attempt, in less than twenty minutes he says all toilets need a complete rebuild because of rust .....$2400! But wait, because my 97 year old mother lives w me I can get a senior discount and he can do the job for $2200!
I live in midtown in houses that were built to blend w 60 to 100 year old homes but was built in 1998....I will never use mcDonald....was told they use a ""menu of repairs"" which repairmen select from ....not real service providers w expertise to solve problems for customers at the lowest cost....they only try to maximize profits.

Bottom line, I did speak with the comptroller who waived the service fee and my brother (who maintains his own home and rental house) fix the minor problems in an hour and $20 in parts!

I think McDonald saw what they thought was an easy mark and quoted the most expensive solution. I will never use McDonald for any repairs.

I will tell my neighbors and co-workers; I also called the appliance repair company (who fixed my ice maker for a reasonable cost) that gave me the referral and they will no longer use McDonald.
