Company Overview

Moore Home Services was established in 1991 in Sacramento, CA by brothers Kenny and Jerry Bell. Having spent over 25 years in the field, we have expanded our services to encompass plumbing, ductwork, insulation, and window solutions alongside heating and air. We have secured more than $5,000,000 in Home Energy Upgrade rebates for our clients, establishing ourselves as a frontrunner in California's Home Energy Upgrade Program with utility companies such as SMUD and PG&E. Currently, we operate 140 service vehicles and employ 200 dedicated professionals who serve the greater Sacramento area and its seven neighboring counties, as well as Hayward and the Bay Area. No surprise that we offer a satisfaction guarantee every single day of the year to our clients.

Jerry and Kenny Bell began their journey in HVAC school in Phoenix, Arizona, in 1982, learning the essentials of heating and air. Graduating at the top of their class, they entered the trades to gain practical experience. In 1985, they ventured into the pizza industry, opening a pizzeria in their hometown while simultaneously working for local HVAC contractors. In 1991, they launched Moore Home Services, using a repurposed pizza delivery truck and placing an ad in the phone book. While making pizzas, they eagerly awaited service calls, swiftly changing their shirts to serve customers when the phone rang. In 1995, the HVAC segment transitioned from the pizza parlor to its own building, bringing on their first employees. Their aim was to become the leading heating and cooling service provider in the region. Today, Moore Home Services stands as the largest heating and air conditioning company in the Sacramento area.

Moore Home Services began with two brothers over 28 years ago who envisioned creating a family of customers receiving unmatched service and guaranteed satisfaction.

We have consistently aimed to provide our customers with top-quality heating and air services, now expanded to include plumbing, sewer, window replacement, ductwork, and insulation. What sets us apart is our dedication to ongoing, high-quality training for our technicians, who take great pride in their work and the care they provide for your home. Let us show you what makes Moore Home Services unique.

I would also give a minus star if possible. Requested service for a running toilet in the master bath and take a look at the other two since the service call would cost the same. Result: no simple fix and no attempt, in less than twenty minutes he says all toilets need a complete rebuild because of rust .....$2400! But wait, because my 97 year old mother lives w me I can get a senior discount and he can do the job for $2200!
I live in midtown in houses that were built to blend w 60 to 100 year old homes but was built in 1998....I will never use mcDonald....was told they use a ""menu of repairs"" which repairmen select from ....not real service providers w expertise to solve problems for customers at the lowest cost....they only try to maximize profits.

Bottom line, I did speak with the comptroller who waived the service fee and my brother (who maintains his own home and rental house) fix the minor problems in an hour and $20 in parts!

I think McDonald saw what they thought was an easy mark and quoted the most expensive solution. I will never use McDonald for any repairs.

I will tell my neighbors and co-workers; I also called the appliance repair company (who fixed my ice maker for a reasonable cost) that gave me the referral and they will no longer use McDonald.

Horrible service and extremely expensive prices. Don't ever use them unless you want to be ripped off. They charge me $375 for replacing a cpaciter which took the guy 10 minutes to do it. I should have never called them. the guy wasn't friendly and kept complaining the whole time he was there. very unprofessional. very disapointed!!! I wish I can give them negative stars!!

My air conditioner wasn't working. I had McDonald come out. They opened a panel and replaced two fuses - took no longer than 20 minutes for the whole visit. The charge was $237.00 I asked them why this was so outrageously expensive. They said that was the flat fee. They could not tell me the cost of the parts or the labor. I will never use them again. They are a rip off.

I had a bad surprise when I found out someone had ripped off some copper water piping in my rental. I called McDonald requesting a quote/advise to repair the plumbing. The receptionist originally quoted me $50 for them to come out, then she called back to tell me due to the nature of the problem the plumber have to investigate and do detailed measurement and will have to be $197 to give me an estimate.

The plumber came out took about 5 minutes to look at the damage and started to sell me the advantage of replacing the whole system with Plastic piping because there is no salvage value and no one will rip them off. They have price book for replacing the piping In a 2 story house with Pex (plastic piping) for $14000 dollars. He did not tell me exposed piping in the garage has to be copper! He did tell me they need to tear up more of the house to install the new plastic piping, and they do not do drywall repair!!

I feel cheated that i was told the $197 was for a detailed estimate. They did not spend the time to figure out what is the best solution for the client, but proposed the most expensive solution. I have now received free quotes by plumbers who actually investigated and measured the damages, and the new quotes are at an order of magnitude less then McDonald's quote.

I have to say, they did gave me a 10% senior discount! I called McDonald because they had done work for me in the past. But I would not use them again!

I just had a new water heater installed by McDonald Plumbing. I worked at home this day to have the problem checked, andMdDonald's accommodated me by installing the entire thing today. Their employee, Eduardo, was polite, honest and efficient. I am very pleased. I see other reviews complaining about being charged a service call for someone to come out and diagnose a problem. I have a different view: if I need an expert to come over to my house and figure out what's wrong, then a charge for their service is reasonable. Who else does their job for free? Just because the solution is simple - you still needed the expert technician to come to your home and apply their expertise. Pay them for that. It's reasonable.

I called McDonald Plumbing to find and fix the source of a sewer gas odor in an upstairs bathroom. I described the problem in detail to McDonald when I called, stating that I never had a problem like this in this upstairs bathroom before. When their plumber, Carlos, came out this morning, he immediately asked me when was the last time I used the tub in the same bath. Well, it had probably been about a year. He immediately told me that was my problem, that the trap in the drain had dried out. he then stated that I owed him $49.50, and complained that he wasn't making enough money from this service call because nothing was broken. Geez, the dispatcher could have generated tremendous goodwill (AND my repeat business) if she had asked me that simple question the day before. But no, McDonald Plumbing needs to milk every last cent from the public, including seniors like me on a fixed income, to justify their existence. Although they did nothing wrong, and I was told of the minimum service charge, I cannot help believing that they could (and should) have helped me solve this problem on the phone, saving me fifty bucks and their employee a needless service call.

Never again will I do business with these thieves.

Update:

After I posted a very harsh review of this company Mr. McDonald contacted me personally and has done his best to make amends and win back my trust and confidence. I can honestly say that I feel they have changed since my unfortunate experience and are now working hard to prove themselves. They've inspected my entire system, refunded the money I spent on another repairman, and have promised to inspect and tune up the system again next fall. I would even go so far as to recommend them to friends at this point.

Wish there was a way to give a minus star! My heating system went out the day after Thanksgiving. We called mcDonald Plumbing and Air and we were told someone would return our call after noon. No one called. We called back.....left messages and were told the repairman would call. So we waited. No call back. So, after freezing for two days, we called Ace Plumbing & Heating. They came out immediately! McDonald Plumbing, Heating and Air never followed up..........never ever returned a call. Don't tell your customers someone will respond and then leave them sitting there freezing to death, wondering if someone will take the initiative to do what they promised to do! Not a way to do business......either you are incompetent or you just don't give a damn. I think it is a little of both! Boo-Hiss!

I called this company out of the phone book when my tenant told me his AC stopped working. They got out there pretty quick, and I spoke with the service technician. He told me he was there about 10 minutes, and found that a wire had come loose at the electrical box, and he pushed it back in. That was, literally, all he needed to do. No parts, no other service.

He looked up a standard price in some book and reported it to his office: $220. So that's what I got billed. I called the office manager and told him I felt burned. He seemed sympathetic and offered to refund everything but the service call charge -- at least that's what I thought he said. I probably wasn't listening too well, because I get embarrassed by any kind of confrontation.

What he actually did is refund $60 to my credit card, leaving the total bill for one 10-minute visit at $180. Does that seem high to anyone else? I decided not to use them again.

THEN, one month later, my credit card bill shows up, and they have billed me for that $60 again, 30 days after the service call.

A nice lady at the office found out it was an error and apologized and said they would refund it immediately. I asked them to destroy my CC info and send me a letter to that effect -- we'll see if that happens.

I'm sure it was an error, but still. It made me annoyed enough to write this review. Tighten up that accounting office! Why are you billing one-time customers a month after last contact?

I had them come out to give me an estimate and see about repairing this old (really old) AC unit I inherited in this place and was quoted $79 estimate fee which is waived if hired to repair. That was over the phone. The guy arrived and checked things out, got it running for a bit as a test then came withe proposed bill. The estimate on the bill was double! It jumped from $79 to $160 which I'm pretty much trapped in hiring them because that'd be $160 wasted to call someone else for another estimate fee which isn't waived-bill will keep adding up. He tells me I need the AC cleaned in order to decrease the pressure that will eventually cause the whole unit to fail if the pressure doesn't go down. Ok. How much? ""$221.00."" What does the ""cleaning involved, I'm on a budget? Simply using a chemical that works with metal that will dissolve the crud built up on the machine. He did inform me that I can do it myself and showed me how after asking since I don't see paying $221 for someone to ""clean"" an old machine. Then the other high price was the ""thermostat control"" that wasn't connecting signal with the unit. Drum roll, please....$370!!!!! Whoa!!! To change a thermostat????

Ok, so lose $160 for nothing or pay the $360 to get the thermostat changed and reconnected and waive the $160 or go out and buy a new thermostat and try and figure out how to wire it myself meanwhile losing the $160 plus the price of a new thermostat. I felt trapped, so I just said, screw it, I'm going to lose $160 no matter what, so I guess I should just pay $200 more for a new thermostat and installation cost. Thermostats, btw, range from $30-180 or more depending on how fancy you need it to be. Of course the price of buying a new thermostat from them would be increased, it's all in the sales and marketing.

All in all, it's working, who knows for how long, but $370 later. Could I have saved the $160 and found out if someone could have done the same estimate for $65 and charged, oh, I don't know, maybe, $100?? Yes. And could i have figured out how to wire a simple thermostat from the instructions in the box? yes, probably. But, I felt trapped because of the double estimate fee, which is my whole point. I don't know how much someone else would have charged to install a thermostat for me if I bought one, but that would mean paying $65-90 for someone to come out again and tell me what the problem is again. lol

Sorry, but getting an AC repaired and getting the best price is HARD!! We need more Yelp reviews on these companies to help others out!! So, there it is, folks. Take it from me, you've got a good detailed estimate story dillemma right here to learn from before you make the same mistake i did. $ does not grow on trees, btw.

Good luck!

Here's a list of estimate quotes I received via phone for some other companies in Sacramento:

Pacific Heating & Air $65 cost for diagnostic/estimate
Aarons Cooling Heating Inc. $89
Brower Mechancial $92
Gilmore Heating/Air $99

McDonald's *(temp quote over phone) $79.50 -waived if hired- be careful!!
