The plumber showed up with no gloves on and had the nerve to sit on my furniture! He replaced a faucet and TOOK the old faucet. The faucet is a touch less faucet with a $700 retail value. I called Michael & Son when I realized it was gone (about an hour later because I spent a ton of time and supplies disinfecting the area). They assured me someone would call the next day. I have literally called multiple times every day since and every time I'm promised that someone will call back. I ended up filing a police complaint. I am supremely disappointed that the company has not yet contacted me. This was the worst experience I've ever had with a service provider. I specifically chose Michael & Son for their supposed professionalism and covid 19 safety procedures. Never again!
Beware choosing this company! They are hands down one of the worst organizations we have ever had to deal with -- from their disrespectful and dismissive customer service (including managers) to their technical staff who promises one thing but come up empty handed. We wouldn't recommend them to anyone -- even in the most desperate of plumbing/HVAC situations. Remember, you've been warned.
M J.Very little respect for customers and their time:
1. Estimate: The sales rep arrived on time and quoted me for a new boiler.
2. Diagnosis: I had an appointment bw the 2 to 6 p.m. window. After waiting for hours, I called around 5 p.m. to inquire when a tech would be coMing out, only to be told that my appointment was cancelled due to the tech working on another job. I would've appreciated Michael and Sons calling me instead of me calling them. I also would've appreciated them calling me earlier, so I wouldn't have been waiting around all day.
3. Diagnosis (con't): After speaking to a manager, i rescheduled my appointment for after work around 6:30 p.m. After my convo, I received a text message saying my time slot was estimated wasn't what we discussed. I had to call back and confirm the 6:30 slot. On the day of my appointment, I get a call saying that someone would be there during the wrong time slot so I had to reconfirm the time slot. This indicates a disconnect between schedulers and departments. The technician arrived at the appropriate time.
4. Work: The tech called me the next day to schedule the work that need to be done. Due to my work schedule, I told him I would call him back. I attempted to call him back to confirm a time, but instead his phone went to voicemail. I called the main Michael and Sons' number to schedule the appointment to ensure that I would have a time when I was off from work. The tech called me back and I shared the time with him (another disconnect bw the main line and departments). On the next day, i confirmed the date, time, and promised discount with a rep through the main line. On the day of my appointment, after waiting for hours, I called to see when a tech would be arriving and was told that I wasn't on the schedule for my morning slot. The rep schedules an appointment for later time that day. An hour after rescheduling, a rep calls me saying that they need to reschedule my appointment for next week due to the arrival of the wrong part. While the wrong part isn't their complete fault, although the part should've and could've been checked earlier that week when the tech called to make the appointment, it was just too much with dealing with Michael and Sons.
Based on my experience of missed/non-scheduled appointments, constant follow up, disconnect between their internal systems, and lack of customer empathy, I would rather not deal nor spend my money with Michael and Sons.
Charlatans! I signed up on yelp just so I can post this review. This company is a total rip off and I highly recommend you stay away from them.
Some ceiling lights in my basement weren't working. I was quoted a $69 call out fee which was described as if that's what they needed to come and see what the problem was but when the tech arrived he wanted $230 to 'diagnose' the problem. Any parts etc needed after that was extra he said...the diagnosis took about 25 minutes and he then tells me that to replace an electric ballast switch in each light it would be an additional $125 per light! It took him about 30 minutes to replace the switches. A ballast switch costs about $20 on Amazon so his labor cost including diagnostics was $540 per hour! Totally outrageous pricing and done in a slimy way where you end up really having no choice but to proceed. I told the tech I felt like they had completely ripped me off and with a straight face he told me he couldn't understand why I felt that way...as if this sort of thing was normal and that a basic electrical repair job should cost more than a corporate lawyers hourly rate. Stay away from this lot!
Back on November 20 Michael and Son did yearly maintenance/check up for my rental unit in Adelphi. The technician found several issues that needed to be addressed. My property manager requested an itemized list of the cost for each item, after 3 weeks no response. Both he and I contacted them again and were told that the list was forthcoming. More than a month later, no response. I would not recommend this company due to the poor followup and poor customer service.
Dawne G.If could give them a zero I would. They are rip off artist at its best! I purchased a Gold Home Care Agreement to receive priority emergency service if needed. Now as a customer I am in need and I can't even get the most basic level of service to fix what THEY messed up! My water heater stopped working. The service man says we needed a new water heater. He recommended a certain water heater (very costly). We purchased it and he installed it. When the inspector came to inspect his work, it failed inspection because it was not vented out properly. Now that Michael and Sons got their money they don't give a damn anymore. We call them everyday and get the runaround . We keep being told that someone will call the next day but they never do. They won't even give us any higher level managers contact info. So we can get something done. I will tell everyone I come in contact with to never use this company. Now I am going to contact BBB. You have been warned!!!
I used both electrical and plumbing services from this company at least 6 times. The quality always seems to be good. However, last couple of times the plumbers tried too hard to upsell, or be borderline dishonest. On one occasion, plumber suggested that I replace the sink strainer basket for $190. When I suggested that this is a $10 part, and it just needs to be tightened, he said that I don't have the tools for that and that he needs to perform this repair. Another time, plumber simply replaced the part on the toilet (while working on the sink) without telling me or giving me any estimate, and then just handed me the final surprise bill.
Ac C.WARNING!!!! Don't get Michael & Sons for any service in your home unless you want to ripped off and no manager will respond to you according to the people answering their phones. I guess they train them that way.
I have been referring people to Michael & Sons for years. They installed my new HVAC air conditioning, and rewired my home with electrical panel, electrical outlets, etc., This is the 2nd time I had a challenge with something effecting the electrical panel. Thousands $$$$$; and it is under warranty.
I have been calling (202) 367-9671 and 1-800-948-6453 since Friday, November 1st to speak to a manager due to they sent the most inexperience technician they had employed. I called and informed them the fuse box fuse would not click back into place and effecting my upstairs master bedroom. The inexperience technician showed up and said he had to evaluate what the problem was and charged me $500+. When I asked him why he is charging me for work that is under warranty; he claimed he had to investigate what I had called and informed them on my ticket.
I have called since Friday, November 1st for a manager and been informed by the minions answering the phone that there is no manager available, a manager will call me back and or all the managers have left work exactly at 4:00PM EDT. I still have not received a call back yet. You are fired.
If anyone gave you a good review, they just have not had a challenge yet with their work under warranty, never needed to speak to a manager or they are the spouses & girlfriends of the employees.
Our kitchen sink became clogged up. We poured some Liquid Plumber in there but it did nothing for the problem. We called Michael and Son and they said they would come out the next day between 12 and 4. They called at 3 and said they were behind and could not come until the following day. They came on the third day and arrived at 9 a.m. Not bad. Thirty minutes later the plumber was finished unclogging the sink. Thirty minutes. Then the bill came. $375!!!! For 30 minutes of work. I'm sorry, but that's just wrong. Needless to say, I am never calling them again. The work was fine, but the price was painful. I suggest you look elsewhere before calling these guys.
Katie T.I will never call Michael & Son again! I called them because I wanted a reputable company and don't mind spending a little extra to get it right. I had good luck with them in the past. But they've changed. They've been to my house 3 times for a sewer smell that started in an upstairs sink. Three ideas and nearly $400 later, no solution. The first guy was good, had me do a test to see if water was pulling from the ptrap. It wasn't. The second guy resealed the toilet to see if that was causing the issue. That was fine. He acted like it was a special toilet (ICERA) that was hard to reseal, and then after agreeing for him to do it for $300, he used a normal wax seal that I could've bought for $5. I asked if I could do it next time, and he said, ""could YOU do it?"" in what seemed very sexist. He then proceeded to tell me that the hard part is installing the toilet the first time, not resealing it. Would have been good to know that BEFORE you did the work. The smell continued so I called back as I was recommended to do. The first appointment never showed. They rescheduled for the next morning. Called two hours into the appointment window to say the guy called in sick. After talking to the dispatch manager, they sent someone out. This last and final guy said he couldn't smell the foul odor I clearly smell but he recommended we do a smoke test to check for leaks in the sewer vent. Great! Nope. Then he informed me they don't have the equipment to do a smoke test b/c it was stolen and they chose not to replace it, so the recommendation: call another plumber. Take their advice. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY. CALL SOMEONE ELSE. ANYONE ELSE.
