Natalie H.Dear Mr. O'Connor:
I'm not even sure how to begin this email as I have never written such a complaint before. On June 18, 2017 a tech came to my home to repair my closet light. It turns out it needed the F32 T8 Ballast replaced. I have two fluorescent lights in my closet. I also wanted the light switch in the laundry room replaced. Imagine my surprise when the tech quoted me double for what I had anticipated. I desperately needed the closet light so I cancelled the repair for the light switch, which alone was almost $200.00 because the total he quoted me was almost $500.00!
The ballast itself costs a maximum of $15.00 and I'm sure much less for your company since you probably purchase them in bulk. The tech wasn't even in my house for 20 minutes and for a cheap part and under 15 minutes of work, I was charged almost $250.00. To top it off I had to request a receipt since I never got one in my email as promised. I understand why you all don't break down the receipts into parts and labor costs; then people would see upfront how much they are being taken advantage of.
I am appalled, angered and even ashamed that I allowed myself to become a victim of unfair, unethical and downright unscrupulous business practices. I later looked into more reputable electric companies seeking a quote to do the same work and it was never nearly as much as what I was charged.
Do I feel I'm due a refund of some sort? Absolutely! Do I think I'll get one? When horses fly!
I just wanted you to know that I will share my experience with others in order to warn them about how M &S rips people off. Regardless of the business practices and whether or not you're a decent man of integrity. If you have a beating heart, then I know, you know that I was charged way more than would it costs for the parts, service call and labor. You all should be ashamed of yourselves! At the very least, I learned from this experience. I will definitely read all reviews and do tons of research for pricing before I call anyone to service my home again.
$200.00 to change a simple light switch? How do you guys sleep at night?
May God have mercy on your souls!
I've used M&S a number of times. Since 2008 I had used them - ac, furnace blower, coaxial new outlets and leaky hose bib
I enjoyed having them do the work however they have laxed in their workmanship -
I had wanted the hose bib fixed for my outside faucets and it's was dismal failure of $690. It continued to leak and warranty had already passed. I had used the warranty a few times before thought . The guys who had came for original work were they ones who come for warranty work too. ""
Good news is I got another plumber put in a whole spiget and resolved the leaky hose issue for $378 includes parts and labor.
.
We called two weeks ago because our AC unit, which was installed by Michael and Sons in 2009, was not working. A friendly tech came out and spent about a half an hour here, after which he charged us $350 and tried to sell us a ""hard start"" for $200 and different service plans for various amounts. I have since learned their techs to work for commission on what they can up-sell. He assured us the house should cool down shortly. It never did. We called back and they said if they returned to our home it would be at least another $85 just to come and look at it. This, in spite of the fact that we had paid them $350 already and all we had to show for it was 80 temps and higher in our home. The unit was running constantly just to maintain temps in the 80s so I'm sure our electric bill will be part 2 of this nightmare.
As I type this, another tech from A DIFFERENT COMPANY is here. This is the second time he has come because he had to order parts from Carrier. He said our initial installation was very poorly done. He was here for 3 hours the first time and he has been here for at least 4 hours today fixing multiple issues. As I type this, it is 82 degrees in my living room. We have an elderly dog and I pray he survives this two-week ordeal. I will never call Micheal and Sons for anything ever again.
UPDATE: it gets better! New tech just said we were WAY oversold by M & S because a townhome the size of ours normally requires a unit that holds 5 lbs of freon. They sold us one that holds 11 lbs.
I was promised gift cards for such poor service and communication over company chat. I have the chat saved for record. I have never received the promised gift cards. Poor company management and scheduling.
Ashley Y.A comment was left below in response to my review that the company had left a message for me to follow up. I appreciate the comment but just wanted to put on the record that I never received a call or message, and even so, there is nothing to be remedied as my ac unit has been replaced by another company for a lower rate already!
Sandy G.The absolute worst customer service ever! We had a major plumbing issue today so we placed a call to our area Michael & Son. The dispatcher was clearly told we needed someone out to our home today (we could not flush our toilets) She said someone will be out today but she could not tell us what time (this was at 10:30am). The service technician called and said he would get to us between the hours of 4-6pm because he had two other jobs. My husband waited all day and 6pm came and went. He called the service techs phone number and left a voicemail at 6:30pm. At 7pm I called the main number and talked to someone and they needed to place a dispatch to the tech. I waited on hold for ten minutes only to be told they would call me back. After waiting another 45min my husband called back. The customer service rep said our service tech had an emergency and couldn't come but don't worry.....I dispatched service tech who was over 2hours away. (Which would have been 10pm) Why didn't we receive a call when our service tech decided he wasn't coming ""because of an emergency""? We wasted the entire day waiting when we should have gone with another company. The customer service rep had nothing to say but ""sorry""
The poor communications & customer service is unbelievable, We will NEVER use this company! (Especially after waiting 10 hours for nothing)!!
Absolutely terrible ac service in Leesburg, VA. Michael and Son have been unable to fix the ac despite numerous stabs at it. They do not seem to understand how to fix it or what is the problem. The ac has failed multiple times over different summers.
It is a relatively new unit and it is under warranty. They have made me wait weeks for parts. They also do not come out quickly when it breaks down, usually several days. Their web site says 24/7. This last time, Michael & Son were called on a Saturday when the ac failed, they finally came the following Tuesday, did not fix the ac and said they would need to come back a week later.
Thanks to Michael and Son I know what it was like for people in the 1800's during the summer.
Michael and Son do not seem to know how to fix my ac, they are in a quandry and their service is so slow.
I called to have a leak fixed in a shower. He was on time and very professional. While fixing the leak, a pipe was broken. Bill, the technician was knowledgeable and very helpful in trying to replace a piece of pipe without cutting drywall. He troubleshooted and was able to fix the problem.
I was happy to deal with Bill and will call him in the future. He is a great asset.
I gave 4 stars for the price of parts and labor being extremely high (overpriced) and the fact that this leak was discovered by another tech being at my house earlier in the SAME day but couldn't fix it. He said he didn't have the parts! He was here for a plumbing issue but didn't have plumbing parts?!? I did spend a total of 8 hours waiting for two techs and the fix time.
I'm surprised to see that there aren't higher rated reviews here, people must only be providing feedback when something goes wrong, and when something goes right, they aren't saying anything.
I had heard good things about M&S from several people, and when my tub spigot was leaking I had them address the issue. There were no outlandish fees just for the onsite visit, and the appointment process was really easy. Every other company I called said something that made me feel uneasy. Ryan was the technician and he came right on time. He was friendly, skilled, and communicated everything really well. The problem was complicated, and my pipes/parts were old and really difficult to work with. Ryan had a great attitude about it all, and made me feel really confident about the companies honesty and ability to perform good work. He had to use some real elbow grease to get the job done, and make a couple trips for parts. What seemed like a quick job ended up taking almost all day -- he had to cut through my wall, and replace everything. He was patient but quick, and really meticulous about every detail. He made sure that all my questions were answered before he left, including questions about my hot water heater, HVAC unit, and service agreements that M&S have. He even thought he heard something strange from the hot water heater as he was leaving, and wanted to make sure to look into it before taking off.
The home service/improvement industry seems riddled with strange people who do shoddy work and take advantage of you, but having M&S do the work was almost like having a trusted family member help. And the price was really reasonable -- better than the few quotes I received elsewhere before deciding to go with M&S. I think they will be my ""one-stop shop"" for all home maintenance/repairs going forward.
Elizabeth S.I needed to have a water spigot moved on the side of my house, the previous one was hard to get to. Ben showed up gave me a price, yes it was expensive however it was something I needed to have done. He was very professional, explained what he was going to do, he had to move stuff around in the basement, he put it all back and vacuumed up the dust left behind.
