Michael and Sons ruckersville va came to install electric from storage building they were supposed to work 2 days they said they would have to do it in one day. Very poor management my mother is 91 years old and she was taken advantage of by charging 6800 dollars to run electric in storage building to her basement. They busted the sewer line keeping in mind that Michael and Sons busted the sewer line then charged her 800 dollars for total being 6800 dollars dug up the yard left hole open for a day or 2 not good. Here is pictures of my mom's yard
Stay away from them unless you absolutely have to use them and there is no one else. Very expensive !!!!!
C G.I am giving Michael and Sons 2 stars. One star is for quality of work when they do it and the other star is for having a broad infrastructure which gives them the ability to provide heating/cooling, plumbing, electrical etc....a one-stop shop.
I am docking three stars for the following reasons:
1 star docked = we had two no-shows on a duct cleaning. The first no-show was due to the technician being sick, which happens! When I called to ask to reschedule for the second no-show, they told me that the duct technician for this area had quit and walked off the job. Because they have to hire someone now, they can't come do a duct cleaning for six weeks? It raises an eyebrow when an employee quits abruptly; it makes me wonder if they aren't being treated well by the employer.
1 star docked = routinely showing up at the end or after the quoted service window.
1 star docked because of their business name. ""....& Sons"" is a pretty misogynistic business name in 2022. There are women who are answering their phones. This name is a way of erasing women, the very women that work for them, and I suggest that they change the name to ""Michael and Family"" or ""Michael's Family Contractors."" Whatever, but ""& Sons"" after any business name is sooooo last century. Heck, more like the 1800s.
You'll be lucky if Michael & Son even show up. Wasting whole days of your life while you're waiting for them does not matter to them. Additionally they do not honor their online coupons that you're supposed to mention over the phone. Beware. Horrible company. I cannot stress this enough.
Mort M.Michael and son have been to my Home 13 time starting march 24 2022 to repair my heat pump and it is frozen up again ! Now the Hard wood outside on the air handler is buckling due to the condensation from it freezing. I will be filing a complaint with the Va state board of contractors and the better business Burau, This is a heat pump ! not a complicated commercial system !
I am now headed to lowes to pick up 2 window units because I have no faith in Michael and sons at all they suck and should not be doing Business in this State ! Knowing that this was a problem the last tech they set had only been in the trade since 2021 with there most senior tech only had 5 years in the trade ! my suggestion is to hire someone with 25 years experience to tell the parts changers what to do !
Our hot water heater wasn't keeping lit.
We suspected it could be the thermal coupler - $10 from Amazon - he proposed $300 to replace it & said if the gas controller valve needed to be replaced- on Amazon for $90 - he would charge $ 700 + . He wanted a dispatch fee to visit for $65 but added that this was not for the diagnosis, billed separately for $175 !
The technician came out & immediately tried to sell us a new unit for $2700. We cleaned out a bit of debris & it now works ...
This will be a mixed review.
First the good: After now having my new Navien tankless water heater for a couple of weeks now, I am happy with the quality of the install and the performance of the unit. The technicians seemed to be highly qualified and knowledgeable. If that is all that matters to you, I can recommend this company.
Now the bad: My experience with Michael & Son Services was spoiled by their horrible lack of communication and reliability: 1) Service time windows mean nothing. The technicians were routinely late without even calling to let me know. 2) TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE: Twice the technicians did not ever show up at all while I waited all day through and after the time window. NOONE EVER CALLED TO LET ME KNOW! When I called them, I was told they would be there, but they never showed. 3) They are outrageously expensive. I knew this before I hired them as I had used their service before and accepted it under the ""you get what you pay for"" mantra. Wrong! I did not get what I paid for as far as service and communication go. 4) It's difficult/impossible to get in touch with their dispatchers and, when you do, you get bad information. There are too many layers between the operator, the dispatcher, the office, and the technicians to get reliable information. When the technicians are late you get an excuse that the previous job went long and are given a new time window, which may or may not be accurate.
All in all, I have crossed Michael & Son off my go-to list. There are too many other reliable companies to endure the stress. I'm sure this experience shortened my life expectancy (probably my fault, I shouldn't let these type of experiences bother me).
Very poor customer service!! I scheduled my air conditioning for servicing, i waited all day and never heard anything that they were running late. At the end of the day, I received an email saying they rescheduled me for the next week. No apology or explination as to why they never showed up. The following week comes and I waited all day again, past my appointment time frame. I called the company and with no apology they said the technician is running late and he'll be coming later in the evening. I canceled. Very, Very poor customer service!! I don't know how a company stays in business with this type of service!!
I just moved to C-ville (three days ago) and on day 3 my heat went out. I have zero contacts here and on the HVAC even my realtor didn't have a ready suggestion. I caught these guy's commercial on channel 29's weather and figured they've got the money to advertise they're probably not fly-by-night. They were definitely not fly-by-night. The operator was on task, fully aware of what would happen and when. There were some issues with being able to diagnose the thing as it was frozen and she worked a solution for that too. The price for a diagnosis was very reasonable and the tech actually called to say he was running early.
Jon (John?) got here and was masked and took pains to not track mud or water in (raining all day). He was straight to the point, cordial and seemed to know his business. My spouse was terribly worried over this happening again while I was out of town and he was able to put her mind at ease which meant the world to me. The problem was diagnosed, repaired and he was on his way in under an hour and left us with a plan on what to do in the future. We have electrical issues to track down and we will be calling them again.
I have been a Home Care customer for 4 years and would not use any other company. They do work on my home's electrical, HVAC, plumbing & generator. Their techs are professional, knowledgeable, courteous, and COVID conscientious. I live in a 100+ year old house with many quirks and random repair needs, and service is promptly provided. With the annual Home Care package (which has saved me substantial $$$), Michael & Sons does annual checks on all of the above listed. I request that the same techs come every year and for occasional ER repairs, and they are very familiar with the strange structure of my house. The written follow-ups that the techs email within hours of completed work are very detailed and helpful. When the techs come for a random repair, from their notes and previous visits, they have a great understanding of my house. They complete the necessary work and do not try to sell / push me into a more expensive repair option or add-on gadget.
My only gripe with the company is how corporate treats their technicians. When one tech may have had brief contact with someone outside of Mike & Sons who had COVID, the tech responsibly reported this small possibility to corporate - as he should have. Consequently, Mike & Sons required that 5+ techs self-quarantine & get tested - as they should have. After the 2 weeks & testing, all of the techs tested negative for COVID, and I was grateful to the company for its responsible handling. But it is inexcusable that none of these technicians were paid for the two weeks the company required them to stay home and did not reimburse for the COVID testing cost. This is a large corporation that could & should have compensated these excellent technicians. Instead it financially punished their employees who don't get paid enough in the first place. These are the same employees following strict COVID guidelines who go into homes where customers may not be taking any precautions around the technicians.
While the work done by its employees on my home deserves 5 stars (10 if I could), corporate Mike & Sons gets a less than zero for their poor COVID handling of quality technicians. Such a company should know that its success is due to the people who actually interact with (by phone & in person) and complete quality work; not the people in charge of compensation. It is only because of my confidence in all of its technicians who have worked on my house that I will continue to use Michael & Sons.
