As a customer of Mat-Su Mechanical, I found their HVAC system maintenance to be satisfactory.
The technicians did a good job with their work.

In summary, my experience with Mat-Su Mechanical was mixed.

I should have shared my thoughts on this sooner. I have hired Mat-Su Mechanical for three significant projects and multiple service repairs. I truly cannot praise them enough.
In 2010, I contracted them to replace my boiler system and to set up in-floor heating and handle all the plumbing in my new home in 2018. They also installed the gas line for my generator.
As someone who works on the slope, I can vouch for the quality of their plumbing and HVAC designs. Their designs ensure that if any component fails, it can be replaced easily and quickly. You won't have to drain or purge the system unnecessarily.
Their designs might be more expensive—I really can't say. What I can say is that the isolation valves are exactly where they should be. If a problem occurs (such as the one I faced after the earthquake), the system can be fixed and brought back online swiftly.
They are remarkably trustworthy and easy to talk to. They gave me a quote for a gas line, completed the work, discovered a more efficient and cost-effective method, and returned half of my payment. They stood by their warranty obligations when I experienced a failure with my expansion tank.
You can rely on Mat-Su Mechanical to act with integrity on every occasion.

I contacted Mat-Su Mechanical to inspect my heating and cooling system in the fall of 2017. They let me know that there would be a first-time service charge of $200.00, along with a minimum fee of 140 dollars, bringing a total cost of $340.00. Any parts needed would be charged separately. At that moment, I felt the estimate was rather steep, but I decided to let them come out anyway since they originally set up the system in my house when it was constructed in the year 2003.
The technician who performed the service told me that I would need an inducer unit in the not-too-distant future, but that it was not immediate. The technician also clearly noted that there would not be an additional first-time callout fee since it would be counted as a subsequent repair. Jump ahead to the spring of 2019. I contacted Mat-Su Mechanical again to replace the motor, explaining that it was their employee who originally identified the problem. I provided them the original work order number and the identity of the technician who performed the work, and mentioned that he had specifically indicated there would not be an extra initial service charge.
They firmly declined to honor it, demanding that I pay another initial service charge. The reason they gave was that the particular technician was no longer with them, so they couldn't consult him about it. The technician had written on the original work order under 'Recommended Repairs' that "The inducer motor has rough start-up." I offered to show them the original work order, which they refused. I will not give them another cent of my money. Instead, I called a different company, and now I realize that it was a mistake to choose Mat-Su Mechanical in the first place.

I the service provider was unpleasant. I contracted them for maintenance and fixes on our boiler, for which we paid in excess of $600.
While the technician was working, the technician unexpectedly broke a small glass window on the front of the boiler. The technician promised to fix it to replace it.
When he finished, we realized that the boiler was producing clanking noises that were new prior to his service.
A couple of weeks later, he returned to fix the issues he had caused. Here's the kicker is that Mat-Su Mechanical is seeking to collect our account $276 for the follow-up meant to resolve the issues they created.
Caution is advised! They are not a reliable and respectable service provider.

When another company shut down our heat during the winter in Alaska, we called them for an emergency. The technicians arrived promptly and addressed the situation efficiently and competent manner.
Because of their rapid response, they saved our house. I highly recommend this company for any heating system needs!

For roughly 8 years, I relied on Mat-Su Mechanical for my rental property, but my most recent encounter was frustrating. A few weeks in advance, I contacted them to arrange a general maintenance service for my furnace. However, a couple of days before the appointment, they called to inform me of a scheduling error.
They asked me to reschedule, and I agreed to a date one day earlier. I adjusted my whole work and family schedule to accommodate the time they proposed. They scheduled the visit for a window between 3 PM and 5 PM.
I made the hour-long drive to meet them. I arrived at the property at 2:45 PM. By around 3:45 PM, no one had shown up, so I called the office.
I was informed that the technician was delayed at another job and would arrive between 4:15 PM and 4:30 PM. I accepted this delay. Less than five minutes later, the same representative called back to say that any service after 5 PM would be billed at an overtime rate.
They explained that this was part of their company policy. I spoke with the office manager, who was aware of the entire situation. She acknowledged that the delay was not my responsibility. Despite this, she said I would still be charged the overtime rate due to their policy.
I told them I would not pay for overtime since I had kept my end of the deal while they had not. I requested that they not send anyone over.
Regardless, they charged my credit card $200 for the first hour of service. What they did felt like holding me hostage by saying I had to pay for overtime or cancel the appointment and still be charged.
This was an unauthorized charge on my account!
I strongly advise against using Mat-Su Mechanical! There are numerous other reputable companies out there. For example, I recommend looking into Kleb's!

As a customer of Mat-Su Mechanical, I experienced timely and dependable service in the past at other properties. This led me to give them a two-star rating.
When I needed plumbing and heating installation in another house, I reached out to schedule an appointment. The woman on the line mentioned that they had a wait time of a few months. I agreed to the wait and inquired about when they could come out to give an estimate. She said she would look into it and call me back.
Unfortunately, I did not get a call back. A week later, I sent an email detailing the work I needed done. Their response indicated that they were declining the job because they had bigger projects out of state. Additionally, they mentioned that since the gas lines were already installed, they preferred not to continue work started by someone else.
I was disappointed by their apparent disregard for loyal customers. The confusion in scheduling was disheartening. Regrettably, Mat-Su Mechanical has become one of those service providers in Alaska that does not prioritize residential jobs.

From my experience with Mat-Su Mechanical, I found that they installed our heating system during our conversion to gas. We had them handle the servicing for us, but we encountered challenges regarding the pump installations because of a faulty installation.
Recently, when they came out to resolve this matter, they billed us a fee of $200. They do not disclose the full price at the time of service. It took two months for us to receive the invoice until we were sent a curt email stating we had to pay another $116.00 and that it was late. I won't be returning to them for service! Too many problems along with unprofessional billing methods caused me to make this choice. They used to be a trustworthy service provider, and the technicians have always been excellent at our residence.

In the valley, Mat-Su Mechanical stands out as the best! The professionalism is evident from start to finish, starting with the front office team to the install team to the final billing.
We experienced a furnace breakdown during a severe cold spell. Even in such a busy and challenging environment, we received great treatment from Mat-Su Mechanical. and the installation of our new furnace was completed promptly.
