Two stars. They do a good job. Suggest not signing up for any sort of maintenance plan. Product verbally sold to you is not really what you purchase. Waste of 200 bucks.
Had a very good experience with John Nugent & Sons. We had our entire HVAC system replaced in January and it was done flawlessly from initial contact to installation. Our contact with Carl went well, no upselling just an honest evaluation and price. When the team came out for the install it went quickly and cleanly with masks and distancing maintained. Polite, professional and great service.
HVAC done right, no shortcuts.
We got lucky and discovered that we needed new HVAC for our home in March -- best time of year to get that work done. The gentleman who did the estimate helped me understand how the old HVAC had not quite been set up right. For example, the UV lamp and catalyst were in the wrong place in the flow. He assured me that they'd put it in the right place when they reinstalled my old one (perfectly good, no need to replace). The solenoid for the humidifier had gone bad, but it was work they'd done previously not too long before, so he assured me they'd replace the solenoid and get the humidifier working. He presented solid options which I took a little time exploring online. I felt good with the options, and decided to take advantage of the free financing. They found our parts and we were on the calendar in about a week -- did I mention that March beats December or July for HVAC work?
The crew came as scheduled and got right to work. A couple of issues came up where things weren't going exactly as we wanted. The thermostat they installed was black instead of the white I'd hoped for; I pointed it out and asked if they could swap it out; they found a white one, had it brought to the site, and installed it, no problem. Then the team lead pointed out that the existing UV lamp and catalyst was on a too-short wire to be located where it was supposed to go, but I talked with him about it, saw that we could rewire it to a closer outlet, and it ended up exactly where it is supposed to be. Bottom line: There were bumps (aren't there always?) but the team made things work out perfectly.
They left the house as clean as they found it, wore masks the whole time, and generally put me at ease. They were professional and friendly. More importantly, when I asked a lot of questions, they were patient and knew what they were talking about (it seems -- I'm no expert.)
The new system is working beautifully and getting it done was a lot easier than I thought it might be. I am glad to have a maintenance contract with them and I strongly recommend them.
Walt D.Great Service! I had an emergency plumbing issue. The team sent a technician the next day!
We reached out to Nugent and Sons to get a quote for some HVAC work in the basement we are remodeling. The Nugent and Sons quote was much, much higher than any other company we were looking at; others were charging between $1200 and $2000 and Nugent's representative Mike quoted close to $6000. When I asked for an itemized quote to understand the discrepancy, Mike Jackson wrote an unhelpful email, noting in his email: ""Hello. We don't break down pricing. We have set pricing. Moving the units is a lot of work. Gas line, flue, extending/changing ductwork etc. same with the water heater."" I've worked for a contractor in Fairfax County and know the permitting process well. Anyone can look up the price for permitting, which I did. Adding up the cost of permitting, materials, 6 hrs of labor at $150 an hour, and a healthy margin still didn't get the numbers up to $2k, let alone the $5850 they were charging here.
After I pointed out how much the job should cost, Mike stopped responding to my emails and then told my wife he didn't want to work with us. Having been a contractor in this area; it's deeply disturbing to me that there are companies like this out here trying to pull the wool over people's eyes. Take your business elsewhere. Josh at Brennan's Heating and Air Conditioning will do a much better job for you and your family. They'll answer your questions and won't be condescending or try to scam you.
Mike from Nugent was very unhelpful and I wouldn't recommend him to anyone. We received quotes from several companies (McCarthy Services, ARS, Brennan's, just to name a couple) and Mike was the only one who came off as extremely unprofessional. The rest were a pleasure to work with.
Choong O.I am totally happy with Nugent's excellent service. From the estimate to the finish we were completely satisfactory! The estimator was very kind and knowledgeable to recommend the right system just fitted to our house. He was flexible enough to accommodate all options within the budget. He was very efficient and approachable. The installers were very professional and skillful! Also, they explain all questions I asked very kindly. BTW, we replaced all heating system and A/C with Carrier system. I have nothing but the positive ratings on Nugent services. Nugent was my best experiences among all HVAC services I got last 30 years. I strongly recommend to use this contractor for your HVAC system.
Rachel B.Horrible experience today. We are part of RELAC in Reston and the cooling coils for the system need to be replaced (their condensation is dripping into our HVAC). Nugent came to give us a quote on replacing the coils. The technician was so rude - spoke loudly, was very short tempered, and even demanded my husband ""stand back"" even though he was more than 6 feet away from the tech. My husband was of course wearing a mask and being careful; we have a newborn and a toddler, and I am an ICU nurse. We go above and beyond to take appropriate COVID precautions.
The tech then refused to even *look* at the coils. He claimed RELAC does great work and that he assumed Nugent would charge $3000+ for the service (RELAC quoted us less than 2/3 of that). He made this claim without even seeing the coils or the condensation into our HVAC unit. He then declared ""I gotta get out of here"" and stormed out. Completely unhelpful, unprofessional, and rude.
Most frustratingly, we are service contract holders with Nugent. We will of course be cancelling said contract effective today. In the past, we had them replace our HVAC (March of 2019), which was a fairly good experience except that the unit was placed on top of a floor drain. Prior to that, they did some plumbing work for us that was done incorrectly and needed to be remediated the following day, so not great there either.
The front office staff is top notch - helpful, responsive, and with great follow up. It's a shame this tech has ruined our relationship with this company.
Leesburg Home Depot Aug 14, 2020, around 4:00 truck T69 driven by some young guy with an older guy as passenger. The John Nugent & Sons truck nearly wrecked into my parked vehicle turning into the parking lot going way too fast the driver could not make a full turn into the driving lane and had to go into the parked cars area before slamming on the breaks. I was aghast. They had the nerve to get out of their truck, stop behind my vehicle and laugh at me. As they walked to the store they continued to talk about how they scared the shhhhit out of me while continuing to laugh and look back. I had my window open and could hear the conversation. I started to get out of my vehicle and was greeted with the middle finger by the older man I decided they may have a gun. They could show violence. God only know what these two were capable of doing. I just thought I would tell any potential customers how my interaction with this company went. And in case anybody is wondering, I have never heard of this company until this incident, and I have been a 20-year LoCo resident. I have no idea how many employees they have or the quality or lack of it they perform. I only want to let potential customers about my one and only experience with two of its employees. For all I know they were John Nugent and one of his sons. Hope none of their customers are ever as disturbed or frightened as I was when their truck pulls up to service a customer.
John Nugent and Sons installed our heating and cooling unit when we finished our basement 5 years ago. It has been running great but last night our cooling unit upstairs stopped working. I called them at 8pm and their front office called me at 8:30 in the am and sent over a technician by 10 am the same morning.
The front office staff and technicians are extremely polite and professional. Charges were very reasonable, as well. I would recommend them any time.
Chris M.I needed help installing my Nest Thermostat in my apartment unit. I tried myself but blew a fuse (whoops). Jason came out and walked me through what to do and had it up and running in no time. He did a great job and I am satisfied with the service. The pricing was upfront and transparent and I feel very fair. I would recommend them to anybody in need of HVAC service. Five stars!
