Owner Andrew Dobbins of Intelligent Design Air Conditioning and Heating, transitioned out of the Marine Corps in 2002 and shortly thereafter entered the heating and cooling industry. Almost immediately excelled in estimation and system design while working for one of Tucson's top companies. During that time, Andrew specialized in residential marketing, product expertise, and the design aspects of a heating and cooling company.

Following four years, Andrew pursued to broaden his education and experience. He studied heat load engineering, logistics, duct design, and the details of the new construction custom home market, as well as how a large service company manages logistics to maintain quality and customer satisfaction.

Currently, Andrew is one of the most acclaimed and sought-after engineers for residential air conditioning and heating systems in Tucson. Andrew is EPA certification as a technician.

Our A/C went 'belly-up'. My wife does NOT do well with heat -- she believes anything above freezing is a heatwave. My options are to either get it fixed (3 hours before it happened) or hear her inferring that the end is near.

Ergo, I called Intelligent Design. I'd heard their ads on KNST several times and felt they were the kind of people I wanted to do business with. It was an $89 service charge but they gave me a military discount, bringing it down to $69.00

Jordon was great. They gave me a time frame and then Jordon called just before arriving. He was personable, knowledgeable and didn't try to snow me with a bunch of 'bravo sierra'. I'm not an A/C technician, but I have enough knowledge to know if someone is trying to come up with nonsense to make the bill go up.

Jordon was honest and I had complete faith in him. In no time the A/C was fixed and at an honest price.

Our A/C needed a part and Jordon was honest about saying, ""I know that with your knowledge you could replace the part for less money, but he had one on the truck was more than happy to install it if I wanted him to.

The bottom line when evaluating a company, for me, anyway, is to ask yourself if you would recommend a company to a friend or relative. For me it's an emphatic YES, when it comes to Intelligent Design A/C and heating.

I used Intelligent Design to install 4 mini splits in my home 2 years ago.
I have had constant problems with one of the units. They have made at least 15 service calls and the technician can never fix it. The unit floods my kitchen with water on a regular basis. This company is always trying to find blame for problems on me. They were out a couple days ago and the service manager and technician placed blame on another company I had clean this unit.
They refused to make it right said my warranty was not going to be honored.
Paul the service manager basically wanted technicians walk away and leave us high and dry with a broken unit.
I called the other company who had cleaned my unit and upon inspection they said the pump Intelligent design installed was far too inadequate for pumping water out of this unit, And because it is not a Dakin part should be made right by Intelligent design.
For 2 years their technician has not been able to diagnose this and I have had mold damage to my home and been blamed constantly.
Do NoT use this company.
They are over priced and treat customers horribly.

Bought a service plan from these folks. Yikes. They showed up to tune up the air conditioner and heater and drain and check the water heater. For the 7 year old air conditioner they charged me $800 for a new computer panel but told me the unit was near the end of its life and the air conditioner and heater would need to be replaced within the year. For the water heater they claimed they could not drain it because it was too calcified but again they were happy to sell me an entirely new one. When the air conditioner began having the same problem a week later they sent over someone who took one look and said the whole thing needed to be replaced. Fortunately, got someone else to look at both the air cond / heater and water heater.....he had no problem draining the water heater and said it should work for another 10 years. Same for the air cond problem, easy fix (water drain clogged) and still working great. To me the whole service plan from these folks is just a scam to sell you new stuff ASAP even if the old stuff just needs a bit of a tune up. I would not trust these folks to fix a paper clip.

This company did one thing right they are very quick to respond. After that nothing right. They sent someone out who was Literally reading from his phone on what was wrong with our air conditioning he told us that we would have to completely replace it anywhere from $15-$25,000 and that there was no chance of fixing the air conditioner. I have course called someone out for a second opinion and completely the opposite they had it up and running cost me $100 and that was it I would not recommend this company please do your homework before you use them

My sewage backed up on Sunday around 1pm I called Intelligent Design and they arrived about an hour later. Marty unclogged the line and used his camera to detect a broken portion of piping causing the damage. Due to scheduling conflicts he wasnt able to repair the problem until Wednesday. The sewage backed up again on Tuesday morning and he came back to unclog it until the repair could be completed.

The repair was completed and exceeded my expectations. The landscape looks like it was never disturbed despite the huge holes needed to be dug up to complete the job. Marty was very professional and knowledgeable. I was only charged for the final repair and not any of the other call out. This is to me is great customer service and I will keep using them for my future plumbing and HVAC needs.

I have been a customer of Intelligent Design for over 5 years and until today have always been treated with professionalism. I'm going to be professional and not post the name of the service guy who stopped by today. (My hope is his manager will contact me.)

The kicker was when we were wrapping up I asked if my husband had questions on the recommendations could he call him (I've always asked this and have always been told absolutely have him call me.) Today I was told ""in the future you both need to be here. Wow, really?? Also I had to sign acknowledgments of the service but there was no information to read and I questioned this and his answer was ""you always signed it before"" I have signed it before because I could see what I was signing.

Our session ended with me saying I don't think we are clicking and he said ""we aren't"" I then said I don't want him back at my house and rather than any kind of apology for his rudeness, he said, ""I don't want to come back either"" Wow!! I guess Intelligent Design has decided to not make customer service a priority.

I'm feeling better because the manager Paul called me and handled the service issue well. He is going to send another technician out to review my systems. I will update my post after the next visit. I'm hopeful!

I had a pretty poor experience with this company recently. We had this company out twice to ""service"" our furnace and A/C unit. Both times I was told they would be performing routine maintenance (ie clean coils, vacuum blower compartment, etc), however, they only performed a visual inspection and strongly recommended replacing my entire unit ($10000-18000). Our unit is old and probably doesn't have many years left, but it works perfectly now, so I said I would like to keep it running until a problem arises. They weren't really willing to talk about repair or maintenance options at all. I got a second opinion with another company today, and they said everything looks fine other than the unit needing a bit of cleaning, which was included in their service fee. I called their company to discuss the misleading phone conversation where they said they would perform services, and they said the service manager would call me back...haven't heard anything in over a week. I would recommend going with a different company based on my experiences.

i've Known Andrew for a while now, and the folks at ID are great. I recommend him to friends and family. We use them for our AC and they are our go-to whenever anything goes wrong with our plumbing. It's nice to have one company to call for any repairs

Unfortunately, the service I received in July of 2017 was a bad experience. One of our 30amp breakers blew due to a connecting wire vibrating loose over time (short answer). The tech that arrived never found the problem. Instead, he guessed at the problem and billed us $356.00 for replacing a very easy to install $12 capacitor (if you were to purchase it online) and, reportedly, doing some minor wiring repair. When he showed me the replaced capacitor, there were no visual signs of a capacitor gone bad - such as it leaking or the top bulging. When I asked to hang on to the capacitor (which can be further tested with a multimeter), he insisted that his company would not allow him to release that part, but that he was required to retain it. The next day, the unit blew another fuse, so I called another company to come out. I could have asked Intelligent Design to return, but I no longer trusted their employee. Furthermore, I had the feeling he may be commission-based, and I would just be given another large bill for solving a problem he should have found on his first trip out. Fortunately, the second company called out located the wiring issue, fixed it and billed me a fraction of the $356.00. Intelligent Design Air Conditioning may be a good company given the reviews of others. However, based on my experience with the tech they hired and sent to me, I would not recommend this company.

Five years ago, we purchased a top of the line Lennox AC system from Intelligent Design. The unit never performed well. I had countless techs come out to try to ""tweak"" it. I was told that was not uncommon in the first year or so. Only a few of these techs appeared to be competent and knowledgeable. Some told me that they didn't have the necessary tools for the job and were saving up to buy those. Then why are they even showing up? Up sell is another big tactic and I started to see so many red flags. We had a huge issue, that was due to wiring a few years ago, so that not their fault, but it took the tech three days to fix it all and he was on the phone with Lennox support most of the time. Learn as you go, I guess. After putting up with a poorly running unit for five years, the entire thing finally quit over the weekend. I surely wasn't going to call Intelligent Design again, so I decided to call another authorized Lennox dealer in Tucson. My unit needed a new compressor and then it still didn't work correctly. So, the tech went over everything and found several other problems along with incorrect wiring from the install! I asked how the compressor had failed and he said that an additive that was added to the system back in 2015, that I was told by the Intelligent Design Tech, would make my system run better, could have been to blame. The tech from the new company said that he was surprised that the system ever ran at all! Thankfully, the tech that was here this week was able to get my system up and running in two days and now it is finally running as it should have run five years ago. People just beware of this company and their poor business practices and techs that don't really know what they are doing. Oh, and, Intellingent Design always asks you to give them a good review. And if you do, they offer a bit of a discount or a gift card of some sort. This is how they get their good reviews.
