We returned from an almost week long trip at midnight to a thermometer that read 95 degrees. We left the A/C on while we were gone, to keep the animals comfortable and to be comfortable when we got home. At midnight I was placing to calls to a variety of companies, the majority of which never returned my call after they said they would, and one that called back at 10 the following morning. After sleeping under wet towels, I found an Angies list coupon for Intelligent Design, and decided to give them a try. I received an email promptly at 8am, and called. There were no appointments available for same day, but I was put on the stand by list. Later in the day, I realized I didn't know what would happen if I didn't make stand by (should I make an appointment for tomorrow etc) so I called. I was pleasantly surprised when the scheduler was very patient with my questions, and explained exactly what would happen. Should there not be room for me on the wait list of the day, I would be at the top of the list for the following day. Not an hour later, I received a call from a technician that he was on his way and should be to my home within 20 minutes. True to his word, he arrived 15 minutes later and quickly diagnosed the problem. After fixing it, and making sure it was working properly my bill was drasticaly less than I anticipated. I decided to sign up for the yearly check up (which also meant that I did not pay for the visit today). I get two visits a year (one spring and one fall) as well as a plumbing visit all included in the incredible price. I cannot say enough good things about Intelligent Design and I look forward to using their services in the future.

Service was incredibly fast at a time when it is very hard to get an appointment from a decent HVAC outfit. They said they would arrive sometime that day but we're out in about 30 minutes instead. Less than an hour after they arrived it was fixed, although I will have to see how long the repair lasts.
I have marked three stars because the repair was to locate the leak with dye already in the system, add a leak plugging compound that retails for $40-50 and 1-lb of R410A at $42. The service took less than 1hr including diagnostics and the total cost was $388. Last year, with 3lbs and a complete purge it was $600. I am appreciative of the fast service but the service was too expensive. Now that I have made contacts with Family and D&H I will try elsewhere next time.

Very nice technician but somewhat absurd pricing, at least for AC repair. After the fact (my fault) and after doing some research, I realized that I got charged $349 for a $30 part and replacing a part that any handyman could have done. I tried googling the part and couldn't find it. Turns out on the invoice, they list a description of the part (inline current controller) instead of the actual part (?capacitor) and name for the service (which anyone could find in seconds). Feel like I dope for being duped. I understand the need to make a money but charging 10 times for a part is ridiculous. Labor (about 1 hour) was nearly $150 in addition to the service call. Doctors don't even make $150/hour and they save lives!

6/8/16:
Thanks for your reply. While I understand the costs of running a business, some markups are unreasonable. This was a weekend call and in this case I think around $300-350 would have been reasonable and adequately covered your company costs and time without gouging the consumer. I uploaded a copy of the invoice.

John came out to look at all the plumbing issues that were highlighted on our home inspection of the house we just bought. He was friendly, explained things thoroughly, didn't pressure me but gave me enough information to make decisions, and ultimately, saved me a lot of money. Their pricing structure appears to be straightforward and honest. I will call them again if (or when) I genuinely do need repairs.

Intelligent Design Air Conditioning and Heating. I would name them Incompetent Design Air Condition and Heating. Now going by Intelligent Design Cooling, Heating and Plumbing.
My experience first started in July of 2015 and as of January 31, 2016 has not yet ended. At the time I called for service. Tom was the person I contacted. He was a person my brother knew from the construction industry and he always took care of me because of my medical issues. The company came out right a way and determined the old system needed to be replaced. Once again a heart-ship being on a fixed low income. Tom said they had a 4 ton unit he could give to me at a really good price because they had installed it wrong on another house. It should have been a 5 ton they put on that other house. That should have been the first sign. It still took several days to install, so I stayed at my daughters house.
After installing the unit and a day later I went outside to inspect the unit. As it is ground set. Before they brought out the unit I asked if it would fit on the concrete pad the old unit is on. They said yes. The new unit hangs over the concrete pad it doesn't fit. Then I noticed a screw missing in the cover panel as it was open on one side. The fan on top was vibrating when the unit would run and cold air was leaking outside at the supply duct. Called Tom and he had the guys back out the next day. They had to take the whole unit apart to seal the duct work from the inside and fixed everything but the concrete pad that is to small now. At that time they were also going to switch the heating system from natural gas to propane. Tom said they had to order the part and could they replace it in October before it got cold outside. I said yes. Another mistake.
The end of October I call Tom but only to get answering machines. After leaving several messages and several days going by I call the company and come to find out Tom isn't there anymore. But the guy I talked to said he remembered the deal and he would have the Field Supervisor call me. Several days go by and I call again , The office girl said she would have the Field Supervisor call me. Finally she called me back and said they would order the part. I told the Tom already did. She replied they received the wrong part. I was told it would take 2 - 12 working days. 14 Working days I called back. Wrong part again. They will reorder it again. So after I decided to right a review on Angie's List. Wow I got a call the very next day. Jason the General Manager said he would take care of everything. He said they would order the part and have it in two days. The second day he called and said it would be in the next day and they would install it that day. They did.
Jason then wanted to talk about what would make me happy for all the trouble I went through. He suggested a 5 year service contact. I said no because I was thinking of all the trouble I just had. I suggested a partial refund of 10%. I thought he was going blow a gasket. We finally as he put it made a gentleman's agreement for $150.00 if I was to remove the bad feedback. He is not a person of his word, the check is in the mail and the bookkeeper was stealing company funds. If they hire people like that I don't want them in my house.
So here is the true review which is what Angie's list is all about. The one I should have left to begin with. Don't let companies bribe you or con you into anything but the truth. We owe it to each other. Makes you wonder how all the good reviews were achieved.
Sincerely, Randall Jakimowich

I have a condo down in Tucson and got a report from my tenant that there was a possible leak. Intelligent design got a plumber there same day - and he found that it was just ""sloshy"" tenants ;) and not a true leak! Also found that one of my toilets had been running which was jacking up the water bill. Great guy! I will absolutely use again!

I used this company in November of 2015 to replace an outdoor faucet bib. The company had an advertisement on Angie's List, which was very reasonable. I had used them before and will continue to use for my plumbing and A/C needs.

I would give them a 4 of 5 for the following reasons:
Price: a 1 rating as this was the worst part of the experience. I was quoted a price of $9132 by Joe for a 5 ton entry level quality Lennox AC and furnace. In talking to the owner Jason, he said they would not be the cheapest and told me others would probably charge about $7200 for the same unit installed. That is over a 25% upcharge. I was able to negotiate a price of $8000 for the 5 ton unit. In fact the unit installed was a 4 ton unit but Joe was unwilling to apply the $200 lower price for the smaller unit so I ended up paying $200 more than what they agreed to which was more than a 10% over charge compared to what Jason said others would charge. I would guess that actual quotes from others would be even less than what Jason admitted to me they would charge but that is merely speculation on my part. In addition, I bought a YELP offer for $188 value for $76. The company would not accept that offer deal so I was forced to go back and get my money back from YELP.
Knowledge: 5 Danny who did the service on the old unit was knowledgeable and efficient. I would have him back to do the service on other units. He was willing to explain what he was doing and when I demonstrated some knowledge of what he was explaining, was willing to get into some technical details. All work was done well and left spotless.
Installation: 5 Workers were all on time, called ahead and did their work to the highest quality. They did not scrimp on installation, insulation, placement, flushing, proper flashings etc. They were courteous and spent the time needed to do the job right.
Follow up: They included a 10 year warranty on parts and 2 years on labor. Only time will tell how they perform on that.
Final tally is a 3.666 rating which rounds up to a 4.

We needed our garbage disposal changed on our new house, and we also decided to add a whole house water purification system (now all the water that comes into our home is purified drinking water, even the toilets! No, we don't plan on drinking that). John was very helpful, explained everything being done in detail and how to operate and maintain the new equipment. He was very nice and professional. Could not have asked for better service or a better company!
