Since 1980, Hoover Electric & Plumbing Heating Cooling has been a family-owned business dedicated to the Southeast Michigan community. Home service repair is our area of expertise.
Gary Hoover launched his career as an electrician in Michigan back in the 1970s. However, it was in 1980 that he established what has become one of the most reliable names in the electrical sector. The early days saw the Hoover team delivering electrical services to businesses. As the team expanded, so did their loyal customer base, leading Hoover to evolve into a full-service provider for residential, commercial, and industrial properties. Our services include maintenance, renovations, design-build solutions, and project consulting.

Nancy H.Love these people! We needed an A/C unit for my home. Called for an estimate and Cody? Came quickly and gave us a good price that we didn't even request more quotes. The 2 installers were great. Quick & efficient. Every time they came in and out, the played with my dog each time. That goes a long way with me. Hire them!
Judy S.I have old broken pipes under my home. No idea how long everything was being flushed under the home but 1 day is too long. Clean up is so expensive and Westley was like no problem! I got this. Worked for 5 or more hours under the nasty house and the plumbing is up and running!! Who would do that?? Hoover will! That's who!
Paid $80 for an estimate on our air conditioner. Was quoted $1750. Called another company and was informed I was being grossly overcharged and they will now be doing the work for us. So, Hoover=$1750 and the new place, that comes highly recommended, =$700. Hoover got $80 out of me but they wont get a cent more.
The thermostat in our home stopped working due to a cut wire in the basement. This unfortunate incident left us without a working thermostat and, therefore, no heat. We called Hoover Electric who installed our new furnace in March 2020.
The technician arrived on time, was polite, and figured out the problem right away-he estimated the cost to be $600 which we approved- although thought the cost was extremely high. He fixed the issue by installing a new wire between the thermostat and furnace. He finished the job in approximately two hours.
With the cost being so high, we contacted the office supervisor and asked how 20 feet of wire and two hours labor could possibly cost $600? Scott called us back about our concern and he told us that a technician's time can cost up to $500/hour.
We researched online for the average cost/hour for this type of technician in our area and it ranges from $65-$120/hour. This is according to fixr.com and HomeGuide.com. There are other companies in our area. We will NOT choose Hoover Electric, in the future.
Betsy K.I called Hoover electric this morning because my brother had lost all power to his entire house last night. He had a friend come over to install a dishwasher and somehow all of the power blew- even to the main circuit board. Hoover electric came out right away when I explained to them that my niece was on a ventilator and had to be moved out of the house because she had to have electricity so she could plug in. They are very friendly and efficient. I would highly recommend!
If they'd just serviced our furnace like we called them out to do, I'd give them five stars. However, we had a 2.5-year-old furnace installed by another company, which had no appointments for a month, so my husband called Hoover to come out, because they were available the following week (something like that).
Hoover showed up, did the inspection/service and told my husband our 2.5-year-old furnace was the wrong size for the house. If we were lucky it might hang on a few years.
As I was leaving work my husband called with the bad news. I put the phone on speaker and let him talk. He gave an explanation, then said our current furnace might last a year or two.
By the time I got home I was a bit fried, said give us a quote in case we do decide to replace the thing. In the meantime I would contact the original company and have them take a look. Before we left the Hoover guy told us his estimate for new furnaces (he gave several options) were good for 30 days, and we might be lucky and the existing furnace could last the winter. He also said prices might go up in the new year, so that was something to keep in mind.
With covid and labor and supply shortages it sounded plausible. But we were tired and a bit shellshocked.
I did some research, asking around. Everyone seemed to indicate the furnace we had was the right size for our home.
I called the original installer and had them came out. They ran some diagnostics and did a small patch job which should fix the error reading that came up. They also reminded us the furnace itself is still under warranty (even though the labor warranty had expired).
I don't know if the guy from Hoover was working under commission or if he was new and made some mistake in calculations. That he kept shortening the potential lifespan of our furnace was a red flag, however.
Josh, and teammate, were professional, courteous, informative, on-task and a pleasure with which to work. I'd hire them again without question.
Seriously over priced. I called to get a ceiling fixture added to a room with no fixture. I realize that's a major job, but their estimate was twice what I got from another company. And they charge for estimates. The technician was nice enough, but they're too rich for my blood.
Sarah P.They only service ""certain"" zip codes in Detroit, which are selected based on ""proximity to where their technicians live"". I asked for examples of the zip codes they deign to serve, and the zip codes they shared just happen to be the wealthier and predominantly white zip codes in Detroit.
Tiff C.Sent person, Dustin, through contract by Home Depot & a 3rd party DRFtps. Com a property contractor Anil Pal calling selves water solutions advisor. The whole thing was a ripp. Dustin never took water heater apart, was too busy talking non stop. Looked 12. He wasnt even going to do a D&C he never sent actual quote just said $1600 for new water heater. Charged mom n me $281.00 and theres no hot water in a pandemic. We had some hot water and now none. Dont go through them I'm reporting them and their services to the trade division whichever it is and more. And they screwed over a widow of veteran.
