Hoover Electric & Plumbing Heating Cooling is a family-owned company that has been serving the Southeast Michigan community since 1980. Repairing home systems is our specialty.
In the 1970s, Gary Hoover started his journey as an electrician in Michigan. But it was in 1980 that he created a business that has earned a reputation as one of the most dependable names in the electrical industry. At first, the Hoover team offered electrical services primarily to commercial properties. As the team strengthened, their customer base grew, allowing Hoover to transform into a full-service company catering to residential, commercial, and industrial clients. Our services include maintenance, renovations, design-build solutions, and project consulting.

Elderly beware! I would not recommend this company if you are elderly because you will be taken advantage of. Removal of a toilet to clear a clog (of drugstore glasses) and reinstall the toilet came to $1024 The plumber even asked if he could sell a new toilet to boot when the toilet was fine except for the clog. I am aware that most plumbers work with a commission plus base salary This extortion of the elderly is disgusting because most will not challenge or question when presented with a fee due to needing the repair They feel powerless and just want it fixed. Call another plumber and avoid this company!
Most of the techs are professional & seem to be very good at what they do. I feel comfortable with the quality of their work. But the company's business practices seem questionable- they are very pricy for their services compared to other providers - they majorly try to up sell all the time. Also they have sent me 6+ 10% off coupons (personally addressed to me) but refuse to accept them when presented. (They have done a lot of work for us $15k+ this year) I do not plan to use them again.
Upcharging, lack of transparency. My dad had scheduled an inspection for our central air. The quote for the inspection was $89 however when Cody got there he did some very brief work on maintaining an HVAC wire and then quoted $240+ just for that + inspection. In addition he said with the 2lbs of coolant the price would be just shy of $1000. He did not provide us with a receipt of the work (forced to pay for the $240+ even though the work was not agreed upon). We later called another place to get another opinion and paid over 3x less. Maybe we just got a bad employee but we clearly would not recommend this business in the future.
My husband called them for a light fixture installation in our front entrance. Gave us a quote, installed the fixture, messed up my house, didn't clean up, ruined my new carped by dragging around boxes which had blue ink on it and now its ruined. He had me sign the charge quote and I thought it was the actual original quote of $503 (which is overpriced as it was but ok). The second charge was verbatim "" 14' ladder required for installation"" $349.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! $349.00 for a tool he needs and uses for the job!!! Its like me charging for a pen i use when dealing with clients!!!! Wth is wrong with these people!!!!!? I need that ladder in my garage since I paid for it or refund for ladder use. THIS IS EXTORTION!!!!! ITS ACTUALLY CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR!!!!
I called Hoover for a simple garbage disposal replacement and possibly a insta hot machine removed. They charge $89.99 for a quote. Kyle sat on my floor telling her I had major plumbing issues. Wanted to make an instance claim. Never gave me a written quote but just for the disposal was over $900. He said they charge over $680 an hour. Said my pipes were backwards. Wanted to make an insurance claim and gave me an over inflated verbal idea of the cost of thousands. I offered to pay the 89.99 and asked them to leave. Called Nick Schram who is licensed. He did both the disposal replacement and insta hot removal for $375 including disposal. There were no issues regarding my pipes being wrong. No other issues no insurance claims!.
I called Hoover to come out and look at the new furnace they installed few months back, the issue was very simple, I got confuse on programming the thermostat so heat pump start working with AC runing in the middle of winter, so my wife and I decided to call Hoover since we are VIP Member, ($364) cost me to reprograming the thermostat. called to complain about the price being so high, Scott called me back and said this is the price we charge base on the serivce you had. After reading everyone's comments, most of you had prices issue with them which makes me feel, I'm right. Anyway! say good bye to my VIP member and never use their serivce again!
I called Hoover to schedule an appointment with an electrician. They told me that they would send someone out the next day and they would call me 30 minutes before the person arrives. They couldn't give me a window of time or even a ball park estimate of what the service would cost. Just that there is a $89 charge that would be deducted if I decided to have the electrician do the service. I stayed home from my work office and called Hoover again around 10am to ask if there was a time frame they could give and was told that they would be calling me between 12pm-2pm. I continued to wait for someone to call me. By 3pm, I called again and was told that they did call but because there was no answer, they cancelled my appointment. They claimed that they inputted my phone number in their system incorrectly (yeah right) and if I would like to be added to the schedule tomorrow. Are you kidding me? I waited all day for a call and then was asked if I wanted to potentially waste another day at home waiting for someone to call? This is highly unprofessional, and I have never been put on a technician's schedule without a time or at least time window. This is completely unreliable and insensitive to customer's time. I would prefer to be told that their schedule is booked and to give me a reliable appointment time when it is available. That would be more genuine. I will wait to do business with a company of integrity and professionalism. Do better Hoover.
Tech did a good job with removing and installing a garbage disposal I purchased ahead of time. I'd give him 5
He was at the home for one hour. I was charged $400.
Was told on the phone that there is an $89 charge to come out and give estimate for work to be done and that it would be deducted if we had the company do the work. Not only was the $89 not deducted , but when I called to inquire about the price, I was told ""no, the $89 is not deducted"" and I'm ""not just paying for a Tech to come out and do the work"", I'm ""paying for the office staff , liscenses they need to do thier job, vehicle gas, and the tools the tech uses""! Fair warning to future customers thinking about doing business with this company. Think again.
Kim P.We had another service in to remove a wall fan in our kitchen the day before. Unfortunately, the other service did not send an electrician, and they left live wires in the wall and an electrical receptacle without power. We discovered the powerless receptacle after the prior service provider left. Since we weren't impressed with the initial service provider, we reached out to Hoover Electric for assistance.
They sent Shane to help that very day. The office staff called back at around 8am, and by 2pm Shane arrived to take a look at our problem. The first thing he did was provided a free home electrical inspection. That was a bonus!
Next, he fished the wires out of the hole in our wall. I'm so glad we called them, because the caps the prior service provider placed over the live wires actually came off in the walls! He fished the caps out, and then the wires came out! Anyway, he confirmed the wiring was live, and being an experienced electrician, he immediately knew what the problem was! He figured out that the old wiring in our home ran from an electrical outlet under our kitchen window, directly to the fan. Years later, the homeowners wanted another outlet. They ended up running a line from the fan, down to the outlet that stopped working! I never would have guessed that.
Well, our house is old, and did not have sufficient space to place a normal junction box or outlet. However, Shane was able to figure out a way to put in a GFCI circuit. Now we have an electrical outlet where the fan used to be, and both outlets work. Perhaps it is not ideal having an electrical receptacle so close to the ceiling, but it works for us.
He even told me how we can finish fixing up the hole in our wall from the fan. That will be our weekend project!
We'll be calling this company back for other home projects!
Nancy H.Love these people! We needed an A/C unit for my home. Called for an estimate and Cody? Came quickly and gave us a good price that we didn't even request more quotes. The 2 installers were great. Quick & efficient. Every time they came in and out, the played with my dog each time. That goes a long way with me. Hire them!
