Holt has done considerable preventative maintenance on our 40 year old West Des Moines home plumbing system and installed plumbing to an addition to our house. In addition, they designed and built a zone heating system to the addition using our existing furnace and air conditioner unit, resulting in efficient and economic use of our equipment. Don recently replaced faucets and shut off valves that where corroded by the years and WDM water. He is a wonderful representative and skilled plumber who was sensitive and responsive to our needs.

Called Holt with two items that I wanted done and was very specific about what I needed. The lady that set the appointment originally said she didn't know what it would cost for the work, but then indicated about $300. When the tech arrived he did not have the tools needed to do the work, explaining that what I wanted had not been relayed and they would get me a quote and come back out, but he indicated it would be no more than a few hours work. Imagine my surprise to get a quote of over $1000 which I declined. Instead I got out my DeWalt hammer drill to break out the floor, bought a $5 part, a few bags of quickcrete and the job is done. Being a single female doesn't mean I'm gullible.

Needed them to install a new garbage disposal that I had purchased to replace one that was leaking. Called and they said the trip charge would be $86. i asked approximately what they would charge to install a replacement garbage disposal and gal on the phone told me she had no idea. It depended on what was involved. Plumber shows up and tells me it will be $285 plus tax. Thought that was a little pricey, so I asked him what they charged per hour? He said they charge a flat fee for installation of a garbage disposal...$86 for trip charge & $192 for install. Plumber did an excellent job...done in 45 min. Don't appreciate being lied to about the charge when I asked the gal on the phone. If you have fixed pricing on certain types of jobs, then you should tell your customers when they ask and not give some story about ""it depends"". Had I known it was going to be that expensive up-front, I would have called around (which is why I am sure they don't want to tell you how much they charge). Have a bathroom remodel coming up that I was going to get a bid on from Holt after completion of this job. After this experience...I'll look elsewhere.

The plumber was nice but the price was highway robbery. Dad's house was up for sale and the day before the first showing we sprung a leak. I was in a pickle and needed someone to do the work that day. My friend recommended this company. BAD idea! The part was about a $10 part and the plumber worked about 10 minutes and the bill was $302.87. He was there during regular business hours as well. But since I had to have it fixed I had no choice at the time. Stay away from this company and find someone with a normal price point.

A couple of years back we had an outside faucet issue and James came to assess the issue at hand. We were very impressed with James who took the time to explain to us what was required and what the fee would be. James is very knowledgeable and has always provided high quality service for all of the service calls (Which have been numerous) he has had with us. We have come to know James very well and we never question his assessment of anything he has done for us. Without a doubt, Holt Plumbing and Heating is blessed with such integrity and talent as what James has. Thank You for giving us the opportunity to have James as our Service Person. For a bathroom sink issue, my first call was answered promptly and the service man arrived on time for an estimate. The service man on the repair date also arrived on time, explained the process and was very professional. Work completed.

I was surprised when I looked at the low ratings. I recently had a Holt technician out to my home to do an annual maintenance. Fantastic! He took the time to explain things to me, listened to my questions and gave good, thoughtful answers. He was very personable and made no attempts to upsell me or tell me I had problems. I would very much recommend Holt to anyone that asks.

Holt has worked on our home and our rental property. We've used them for a furnace fix, a water heater fix, a gas leak, a water leak pipe replacement under our kitchen sink, a garbage disposal.... Every single time - great experience. Very personable guys that are very professional. They keep things clean and do the job right the first time. They have always been on time and even have come early a few times (which they called prior to coming).

Called and spoke to a woman about my water heater not heating up and it was leaking. Told her i have HSA warranty and immediately i was told that they will not call HSA after they diagnose the problem because they would have to wait too long for the approval. Without the diagnose how will HSA know what to approve? Told the woman I will call HSA myself after i get the diagnose and she told me she will not have her tech wait 45 mins while i call HSA for the approval. I ended up calling HSA and they sent someone out within an hour after i spoke to the rep. It took 5 mins for a rep to be online to speak with me not 45 mins. A local business with competitions out there and they won't go the extra mile. I guess they have too many businesses so they don't care for more.

two experiences. 1. hot water heater went out. guy doing replacement gave me high pressure sales pitch on $2000+ tankless, really felt i was taken advantage of and just ended up getting a new one at home depot. 2. asked them to look at my a/c which was not working well. they said i needed a $10k+complete hvac replacement. second opinion guy cleaned the leaves and grass clippings off the compressor, and the a/c worked great again. Its awful to be at the mercy of contractors that take advantage like this. So many are like this.
