Unfortunately, my building uses Hetherington, so I have no choice but to work with them. Their response time is horrible (I needed emergency service and they took A WEEK to get back to me).

When I needed them to come turn off the building water supply for literally 10 minutes of plumbing work, they charged me $385. Rip-off, and probably the highest hourly rate I've ever seen.

Don't use unless you have no other choice.

The oddest experience ever.
- call to schedule appt, informs they will need access to condo above
- two hours after appt time, I call and ask whats going on, no reason, dude is just late and didn't care to call
- they arrive, no appt for condo above and says he needs to run to his car and be right back, no one came back
- I called and they said they would follow up by end of week
- nothing Thursday or Friday so I call Monday and Tuesday, no one picked up or voicemail
- they RANDOMLY show up on Wednesday, no professionalism, but sure, come on in
- 15 minutes into the appt, he said he needs to run out to get his other guy and he will be right back, an hour later and still never came back

Best part! While he was here, I told him my landlord is sending someone out tonight too since Hetherington has terrible follow up. His response? ""Oh good, then we won't have to deal with it."" Wow!

Recently (read in the Covid era), I needed some radiator work completed. Benjamin came over on time, was mindful of safety protocols (masked up!), and performed the work professionally, satisfactorily, and quickly. I've used their services in the past, too, and am always grateful for their prompt response and good work. Thank you!

Dishonest and terribly rude. I would go with a few different plumbers instead of these guys. They're extremely expensive, and slow. They billed me for a few extra hours and they couldn't explain to me why? I've used ace plumbing and 24/7 rooter and plumbing both were a million times better, faster and fairly priced. I would never use these guys again.

As a landlord/property manager in San Francisco, having a reliable plumber is of the utmost importance. Hetherington does a tremendous job of setting up times the same day for emergency issues. They always show up on time, get the job done at a fair price and have great customer service. If you have follow up questions, their office staff is more than happy to assist. I would highly recommend them.

Please read my story before calling Hetherington! This is a dishonest company! I called my property management group and asked if they could send out a plumber to check my shower drain, as I felt it wasn't draining quickly at times. They sent a man out who came over and the first thing he did was turn on the water and start running my shower. He ran the water for 5 minutes and it drained fine. He turned off the water and we spoke for another 5 minutes and then he left. So when I got the bill for $220 for 2 hours I was in shock. I immediately thought it was a clerical error. I called the property manager who called them at my request. They reported the invoice documented that the plumber was at my apartment from 2:42 to 4:00 and travel time was 42 minutes. I decided to call and speak with the manager of the company myself, but when I told them my name and address they refused to let me speak to anyone and subsequently, never
returned my call. Basically, there was no one to dispute them because the billing goes through the property management company. They would never have charged me 1 hour and 18 minutes for a 10 minute call had I hired them on my own! It was clear that they were and will continue working in cahoots with the property management company, who sided with the plumbing company, even though I told him it was a 10 minute job!
Please, please don't use Hetherington General and Plumbing! There are honest businesses out there, but this is certainly not one of them!!!! Sandra Coudright

Contacted Hetherington Plumbing on a referral from another plumber. Was told he specialized in water heaters.

I have an 18 unit apartment building. The water heater kept going out. First call was Tuesday 10/1/19. They told me to take a picture of the front plate and email it to them. No response from Hetherington.

Next day, called again. They said that I would get a call back. No response. In the meantime, I contacted several other water heater companies. They were honest enough to tell me they were too busy to help me. Also, I could get the water heater running for periods of time so I thought it wasn't critical. All I wanted was to find out what the problem was.

Now it's Thursday. Called again. They said they would get back to me right away. No response.

Finally contacted a Water Heater service which responded immediately and resolved my problem.

The only thing I can say is that the people I spoke to on the phone were very nice and tried to help. The problem was that Mr. Hetherington didn't have the courtesy to let me know he was too important or too busy to let me know he wasn't interested in my business.

I'm sure my tenants, who didn't have hot water for 3 days truly appreciate his exceptional service.

Bill saved the day at our condo last night- 40 plus people with no hot water for a second nite. Bill laid on cold concrete for hours, showed us the burned out parts (from not having a Booster to deliver an even flow of gas.) Most plumbing contractors would not even try to fix it.

Wow! What a relief to find a business that responds from the first call through ""the fix"" to the billing. I'm just amazed that still there are independent business owners who care and remain dedicated to providing service.

I now understand why Hetherington has a 2-star rating: It is because they are dishonest. I would give them a 1-star rating.
I was given an end-to-end services and parts quote by an agent on-site (for $200), and then sent a bill that was double that amount ($400). When I called to dispute the amount the company refused to lower the invoice, claiming now that the agent was not authorized to give a quote and that it didn't cover the investigation (even though they already quoted me for labor).
Terrible experience, they did not take responsibility for their mistake which leads me to conclude this is a total scam.
