Please read my story before calling Hetherington! This is a dishonest company! I called my property management group and asked if they could send out a plumber to check my shower drain, as I felt it wasn't draining quickly at times. They sent a man out who came over and the first thing he did was turn on the water and start running my shower. He ran the water for 5 minutes and it drained fine. He turned off the water and we spoke for another 5 minutes and then he left. So when I got the bill for $220 for 2 hours I was in shock. I immediately thought it was a clerical error. I called the property manager who called them at my request. They reported the invoice documented that the plumber was at my apartment from 2:42 to 4:00 and travel time was 42 minutes. I decided to call and speak with the manager of the company myself, but when I told them my name and address they refused to let me speak to anyone and subsequently, never
returned my call. Basically, there was no one to dispute them because the billing goes through the property management company. They would never have charged me 1 hour and 18 minutes for a 10 minute call had I hired them on my own! It was clear that they were and will continue working in cahoots with the property management company, who sided with the plumbing company, even though I told him it was a 10 minute job!
Please, please don't use Hetherington General and Plumbing! There are honest businesses out there, but this is certainly not one of them!!!! Sandra Coudright

Contacted Hetherington Plumbing on a referral from another plumber. Was told he specialized in water heaters.

I have an 18 unit apartment building. The water heater kept going out. First call was Tuesday 10/1/19. They told me to take a picture of the front plate and email it to them. No response from Hetherington.

Next day, called again. They said that I would get a call back. No response. In the meantime, I contacted several other water heater companies. They were honest enough to tell me they were too busy to help me. Also, I could get the water heater running for periods of time so I thought it wasn't critical. All I wanted was to find out what the problem was.

Now it's Thursday. Called again. They said they would get back to me right away. No response.

Finally contacted a Water Heater service which responded immediately and resolved my problem.

The only thing I can say is that the people I spoke to on the phone were very nice and tried to help. The problem was that Mr. Hetherington didn't have the courtesy to let me know he was too important or too busy to let me know he wasn't interested in my business.

I'm sure my tenants, who didn't have hot water for 3 days truly appreciate his exceptional service.

Bill saved the day at our condo last night- 40 plus people with no hot water for a second nite. Bill laid on cold concrete for hours, showed us the burned out parts (from not having a Booster to deliver an even flow of gas.) Most plumbing contractors would not even try to fix it.

Wow! What a relief to find a business that responds from the first call through ""the fix"" to the billing. I'm just amazed that still there are independent business owners who care and remain dedicated to providing service.

I now understand why Hetherington has a 2-star rating: It is because they are dishonest. I would give them a 1-star rating.
I was given an end-to-end services and parts quote by an agent on-site (for $200), and then sent a bill that was double that amount ($400). When I called to dispute the amount the company refused to lower the invoice, claiming now that the agent was not authorized to give a quote and that it didn't cover the investigation (even though they already quoted me for labor).
Terrible experience, they did not take responsibility for their mistake which leads me to conclude this is a total scam.

Do not use this company! Bad customer service and doesn't take any responsibility for any issues. I had an appointment at 10:30 and they called me at 10:25 saying they were running half hour late. I was using them for a water shut off because the hoa required it. When I called to complain since I was incurring extra plumbing charges with my own plumber for keeping him waiting, this company was rude. They seriously know nothing on customer service especially when they were at fault. Big mistake if you decide to use them!

Complete scam. They were able to fix a leaking shower in 1.5 hours... but they billed me for 3.5. I had to call in to dispute the charge.

They also recommended I do a water shutoff when there was no need. All that so they could charge more

Absolutely do not use their services (unless HOA forces you to). If you do, make sure you log their hours and confirm those hours are correct as they leave your apartment.

Wow, BUYER BEWARE!!!! We had the new garbage disposal and water filter all ready to go. The serviceman showed up on time, was very cordial and efficient., got it all done in less than 45 minutes..so we were SHOCKED when we saw the bill one month later with a charge for an hour and a half of labor. The guy was there under an hour!!!!!!! We were prepared to pay the minimum one hour charge, but they just add on whatever they want???? SF prices are high enough without this kind of unethical practice. Our property manager and HOA board will be notified so others in our building do not have the same experience. VERY DISAPPOINTING.

Awesome!!! They are very thorough. I was told from another plumber that I would have to replace my valve which meant removing the tub/wall (all one piece) which would cost around $9,000 (new tub, tile, floor etc). Hetherington Plumber was diligent and took out valve cleaned it , now I have cold water. I saved $$$$. Thanks so much!!
It's very hard to find a reliable, honest contractor.

Todd came to fix our sink. It had a few problems, and it now works perfectly. He explained what he was doing, was very nice, funny, and professional. I would highly recommend Hetherington Contractors.
