I now understand why Hetherington has a 2-star rating: It is because they are dishonest. I would give them a 1-star rating.
I was given an end-to-end services and parts quote by an agent on-site (for $200), and then sent a bill that was double that amount ($400). When I called to dispute the amount the company refused to lower the invoice, claiming now that the agent was not authorized to give a quote and that it didn't cover the investigation (even though they already quoted me for labor).
Terrible experience, they did not take responsibility for their mistake which leads me to conclude this is a total scam.

Do not use this company! Bad customer service and doesn't take any responsibility for any issues. I had an appointment at 10:30 and they called me at 10:25 saying they were running half hour late. I was using them for a water shut off because the hoa required it. When I called to complain since I was incurring extra plumbing charges with my own plumber for keeping him waiting, this company was rude. They seriously know nothing on customer service especially when they were at fault. Big mistake if you decide to use them!

Complete scam. They were able to fix a leaking shower in 1.5 hours... but they billed me for 3.5. I had to call in to dispute the charge.

They also recommended I do a water shutoff when there was no need. All that so they could charge more

Absolutely do not use their services (unless HOA forces you to). If you do, make sure you log their hours and confirm those hours are correct as they leave your apartment.

Wow, BUYER BEWARE!!!! We had the new garbage disposal and water filter all ready to go. The serviceman showed up on time, was very cordial and efficient., got it all done in less than 45 minutes..so we were SHOCKED when we saw the bill one month later with a charge for an hour and a half of labor. The guy was there under an hour!!!!!!! We were prepared to pay the minimum one hour charge, but they just add on whatever they want???? SF prices are high enough without this kind of unethical practice. Our property manager and HOA board will be notified so others in our building do not have the same experience. VERY DISAPPOINTING.

Awesome!!! They are very thorough. I was told from another plumber that I would have to replace my valve which meant removing the tub/wall (all one piece) which would cost around $9,000 (new tub, tile, floor etc). Hetherington Plumber was diligent and took out valve cleaned it , now I have cold water. I saved $$$$. Thanks so much!!
It's very hard to find a reliable, honest contractor.

Todd came to fix our sink. It had a few problems, and it now works perfectly. He explained what he was doing, was very nice, funny, and professional. I would highly recommend Hetherington Contractors.

We had a very leaky faucet in the kitchen and a more-or-less broken faucet in the bathroom. Hetherington has been a reliable, timely and efficient general contractors since we moved to San Francisco in the 1980s. We never once had this kind of poor customer service and communication breakdown before with Hetherington.

We contacted Hetherington FOUR TIMES over the course of THREE WEEKS, and each time, their response was: ""we will speak with our manager and get back to you as soon as possible."" First call was February 23, then February 26, and then March 4. The call today (March 16) was the breaking point, when the associate said that they were too busy and wouldn't be able to schedule anything anytime soon. I'm glad that business is well for Hetherington, but THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE FIRST THING THAT THEY SAID WHEN WE FIRST CALLED! Just a phone call update saying they were busy would have sufficed, but they neglected us for these three weeks, while we suffered with leaky and malfunctioning faucets.

Now usually, we would have contacted another plumber or contractor sooner, but since we live in an apartment complex with a homeowners' board, our initial options are limited to the contractor recommended by the board (billing reasons). However, after realizing the ballooning water expenses due to the leaky faucet, we just had to make the claim and the switch.

This is truly unacceptable; no business should ever neglect any of their customers - first-timers or veterans - like so. Communication is a vital component of a business (just as their services or products are too), and this holds especially true for someone provides urgent services like plumbing. We have notified our homeowners' board to reconsider dismissing Hetherington as the recommended contractor and reviewing others in the San Francisco area. 20 plus years of loyalty must come to an end. We are very glad for your flourishing and prosperous business Hetherington, but this kind of professional negligence is just too unacceptable for us anymore.

I called for garbage disposal. found out ex tenant accidently turn off the switch when ex-tenant clean kitchen sink cabinet.

All the plumber did turn on the switch. and he charged around $300 with $99 service call.

I've been quite happy with Hetherington in the past but today I called in to get the service done for the work they did about a year ago. They replaced the water faucet gasket and its leaking now. The previous gasket worked for 10 years. So I call Hetherington and they declined the order, even though I was willing to pay for work. My frustration is that they refused to fix the work they did in the past.

Called on Tuesday, described the problem, was promised a scheduling call back.

Called on Thursday, mentioned that I was still waiting for a call back, was promised a call back.

Called on Monday, mentioned that it was my third call, was told they were scheduled out ""for several weeks"" and couldn't help. Why didn't I hear that during one of the first two calls?
