Recently our gas-powered water heater sprang a fatal leak. With 2020's climate change-fueled drought and wildfires fresh in mind, we decided to switch from natural gas to carbon-neutral electricity, with a heat pump water heater (HPWH).

Art Hansen responded immediately, came over to assess our garage space, and gave us a clear, accurate, reasonable written proposal. He apologized that his van was in the shop, but as soon as it was fixed (two days) he and his assistant came and installed the HPWH, coordinating well with our electrician (Tom O'Connor). Art returned a couple days later to seal wall holes he made to run condensate and overflow drain pipes out over dirt (required for HPWHs).

The HPWH works great and exceeds the uniform energy factor required for our city's rebate (though the city has not responded to our rebate application after two weeks). We expect the HPWH to reduce our monthly utility bill, as it's much more energy-efficient than a gas-burning water heater. As a nice side effect, it cools our garage during summer. We highly recommend Art's fast, quality work.

After I got off the phone with Guy Plumbing I went out to my water heater and found A. G. Hansen sticker on it and called him to see if I could get my water heater working again.

Art was great and since I got to him early he could order the parts after I gave him the model and serial number.

Art was out the next day and was excellent to update the status of when he would arrive.

Art replaced what he thought was the failure of the thermocouple but after a quick test found out that was not the problem.

He figured out the gas valve had failed and found a replacement part the same day and had it fixed.

He gave me a break on the labor since the first part he replaced did not fix the problem.

On a Thursday night, our shower handle stopped working -- while the faucet was on! We had to shut off the water to the entire house to stop the bathtub from overflowing. The handle had gotten slightly harder to use over the previous couple of nights but didn't think it was noteworthy until we couldn't turn the water off.

I called a plumbing service and it took them over 30 minutes to call back and say they couldn't come out. Then I called 5 of the top plumbing services in the Palo Alto area. Art was the only person who answered. He came out the same night and installed a replacement part. We were able to turn our water back on. Then he came back and performed follow up work to prevent the original issue from resurfacing over time. Super friendly, communicated clearly throughout the entire process. I highly recommend Art both in emergencies (higher rate outside of normal hours, obviously) and for regular repairs.

My dishwasher was getting clogged, and I called to schedule an appointment. Over the phone, he gave me a quick thing I could check on my own at home (pipe to sink clogging), which did the trick. Really appreciated him being focused on solving the problem in the quickest way possible, rather than coming by for an appointment (even though that would have made him money). Thanks!

Art came over to help with a leaking sink in a house we rent. He didn't solve the problem, left a puddle of water on our things underneath the sink and wouldn't answer my questions. He was also quite rude to me in person and to my landlord on the phone- he repeatedly interrupted me when I tried to ask basic questions about what information he needed and next steps, said to me ""yes you already said that,"" and to my (female) landlord, ""I'm going to repeat myself again so-and-so,"" and seemed angry with her. He seems to have a problem working with female customers if I had to guess the discrepancy in experiences posted here. Send the male of your household if you have to deal with him. When I asked him to calm down, he didn't apologize. He picked up his wrench. So I asked him to leave. The leak remains.

This guy is great!!! I called Art Hansen early one Sunday morning in November, 2014, when my husband was away on business, to ask if he could come to stop a wildly running toilet that could not be turned off at the wall. I was more than pleased that Art answered the phone himself and agreed to come on the spur of the moment to help. He arrived promptly, quickly assessed the situation, and called the water company to turn the water off at the street, since it was not possible to turn it off otherwise. He explained everything that he was doing that day and then the next day in great detail. His charge for the 2-part/2-day work was very reasonable, and I was happy to pay it. Art Hansen is a competent plumber and conducts himself in a very professional manner. I will DEFINITELY call Art again, should dreaded plumbing issues arise.
