Founded in 1927, Moe Plumbing was built on four key principles: 1) to be recognized for integrity; 2) to provide the best products available; 3) to ensure timeliness; and 4) to treat all individuals with dignity and fairness. The company established its name as a trustworthy plumbing contractor, focusing on new home construction and servicing existing structures.
What began as a modest family business has evolved into one of the most esteemed plumbing, heating, and air conditioning companies in Southern California. In 2000, we significantly expanded our service capabilities by acquiring John K. Keefe Plumbing, a staple on Los Angeles' Westside since 1940, and Burt Plumbing, a Hollywood institution since 1920.
Currently, there is no task too big or too small for Moe Plumbing. We possess the experience and technology to provide exceptional plumbing, heating, and air conditioning services. Mike Davis is the president and owner of Moe Plumbing. Since assuming his leadership position, Mike has expanded the business from a modest family-owned company to one of the top plumbing contractors and service providers in Los Angeles. Mike is a trustee for the National Association of Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors Association, Union Affiliated Contractors (NAPHCC UAC), and a member of the California Plumbing & Mechanical Contractors Association (CPMCA), Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JATC) for UA Local #761, and the American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE). I called MOE (formerly Keefe) today, as they are the plumbers that my building typically uses. It was important to me to have a plumber who knows my building as any work conducted affects my fellow neighbors/homeowners. I had been having some draining issues in my master bathroom, which worsened today as one of my sinks stopped draining at all. I called MOE just before 1 and a tech named Octavio arrived around 2:00 p.m. Octavio was great! He snaked both sinks and replaced the flapper thingy in our master and guest bathroom toilets. Octavio informed me that he used a 35 foot snake, which reached the basement of my building (I'm on the top floor), so I didn't need to worry about causing problems in any of the four units below me. I asked Octavio if he could also snake the tub, but he advised me that it could take more than an hour, which would put me into overtime hours, so he suggested that I schedule him to come back on Saturday (which would not be billed as OT). Octavio advised me that, like the sinks, he would need to snake down to the basement and that takes time to avoid causing any problems in the units below me. I called the office and scheduled Octavio to come back out Saturday morning and the office said that they would keep the current ticket open, so that I would not be charged for Octavio making a second trip. I asked if I needed to pay today or Saturday and they said Saturday. I was very impressed with the prompt and excellent service I received and I highly recommend MOE to other homeowners.

Very rude. The guy parked in front of our house blocking the place for our delivery truck.
We asked politely if he could move his van in front of the house he was servicing ( there were over 7 empty spaces there).
Nope- got a rude remark and he refused saying he would only be 10 minutes.
Well 45 minutes later, he is still blocking the area for the delivery truck.

We have used MOE (formerly Keefe) since we moved into our home in 1994. They have handled some small jobs ( leaky undressing pipes, replacing faucets etc ) to bigger jobs ( snaking outside house to sewer drain) many times. The techs have been nice, and knowledgeable. Special shout out to Eric who came a few years ago and again today to hydrojet, and video the outside drain. I am surprised to see so many bad reviews. Seriously, they are not inexpensive but they always state exactly what they are going to do and explain the why/ifs. Today, we expected news that would lead us to a costly (neglected by us) repair but we were not pushed or condescended to at all. We chose the cheap quick fix ( I am using quick rather facetiously as poor Eric really labored to get the problem solved) and we without a doubt will be calling them to do the bigger job soon. Every tech has been deliberate and careful to detail..none slacked off or made us feel they were padding the hours. So yes, expensive. But also yes, honest and solid work.

We Recently had a Plumbing Issue at our Home. The Drain

Short version: They didn't show up in a four-hour appointment window made during a work day, and didn't call to update me. I won't work with a contractor I can't trust to communicate or show up, and who doesn't respect my time.
Long version:
I made an appointment for an estimate, was given a four hour window of time during a work day (Noon to 4pm), so I took time from work to be available. I called that day before that window to confirm, and asked if they could call when on the way since we don't have a doorbell and might not hear them knocking. Office person was nice, no problem there.
4:00 pm rolls around, no call, no one came. I called the office and they said the contractor had just finished up a job and is on his way. They were nice, but didn't acknowledge the problem or apologize or anything. I told them to cancel.
Suggestions:
I don't expect all of these to be done, but the more the better, with the first one being required of course:
1. Show up during the time given.
2. Call to update the customer ASAP if you're not able to make the time. Don't wait until the last minute. I'd rather know in advance and have options than wait around to find out. And don't make the customer call to find out where you are.
3. Have a much shorter time window. This might be an ""industry standard"" but other trades are able to do much better - even specify an exact time and show up on time. I'm sure estimates are a wildcard - anything can happen. And you don't make money on them unless you get the job. But these are excuses that lead to a bad experience.
4. Like a dentist, call the customer to confirm the day before. This wouldn't have helped this problem, but would have saved me the effort, and shows your more on the ball.
5. Respect that your customer's time is valuable to them. What this company did suggests they don't respect the customer's time.

The WORST customer service I have ever encountered! They sent out a plumber to come to my place because I needed to replace some parts for my toilets, sink, shower. Their plumber said he would call me back with a quote and date for the install. After trying to contact their main office for several weeks I gave up. 2 1/2 months later the plumber calls trying to invoice me over $200 for work he never did. These people are desperate snakes!

DO NOT TRUST THESE GUYS. GET A SECOND OPINION BEFORE YOU AUTHORIZE ANY WORK!!!!-
THEY CHARGED A $99. FEE FOR TRYING TO RIP OFF MY DAD WHOM IS IN HIS EIGHTIES; AND I CAUGHT THEM AND CANCELLED THE WORK ORDER BEFORE THEY WERE !!!! SUCCESSFUL.
My dad, a senior citizen called them out cause his floor heater quit. They came out and went under the house and stated ""...there are many old parts that need replacing..."" and suggested he buy a new unit at $3500. My dad trusting their word agreed and gave the technician a check for $350.
With not the greatest memory my dad had forgotten I had the same unit worked on a year before. All parts replaced. So I called Moes up to cancel the job. I called the prior technician back who fixed it a year ago and he agreed to come take a look at it, and advised me $3500 is too much...he was there the next morning and fixed the problem with new parts for a few hundred dollars.
When I tried to get the deposit back Moes tried telling me I had to pay a reatocking fee for parts. I argued and eventually got my deposit returned.
Yet they still charged my dad a $99. Service call.
So basically I had to pay them for trying to rip my dad off.
Look up PacWest Heating. Honest, reasonable, reliable, dependable.

I hired MOE to do the required yearly back-flow device inspection at my business. It was a newly constructed business with totally new plumbing. They did not submit the results to the city, as required. I got a letter from the city 2 months later, fining my business $25,000 for failure to comply with the city codes. MOEs excuse was to blame their employee, and me for not checking on their work for them.
Also, they found one of my new backflow devices to be worn out. I requested the replaced parts but they never gave them to me. Suspicious, especially since the other one has lasted 5 years now. $300 for that.

To the reviewer who said the positive reviews only say Moe solved ""issues"" and are fake b/c there's no details... I don't think you *want* the details of a clogged sewage line. Believe you me...! But I'll tell you more if you want.
But anyhoo...
I called Moe out again b/c we were having a problem with our central a/c. Two blocks in the neighborhood had a power surge, and it blew out stuff in every house -- microwaves, a/c, computers, lights, light switches, fridges, thermostats, beds with vibrating motors oops i mean...
But anyhoo...
I had no doubt the transformer in our a/c fried because that's exactly what happened to three immediate neighbors. I have a list of plumber and a/c people. I called on Moe because I was happy with the prior service. Burt was the technician and he was friendly, SMART, efficient. They do carry some transformers on the truck but mine ugh, had to be ordered. It is what it is so... we ordered it, Moe (Burt) comes back a few days later and today they get everything back up and running. Total service call was about $275. The actual transformer is not that expensive ($30) but labor and time and 2 trips is. And it takes a lot to diagnose and pinpoint a problem.
I know from my neighbors who had the same exact problem, their bills were the same.
The work here is total ""normal"" price (which is to say... high... but technicians are expensive). But I deeply trust the quality of the work and definitely feel these guys know what they're doing. And next time I have a plumbing or a/c problem... I will make them my first call again.

NOTICE THAT MOST OF THE POSITIVE REVIEWS FOR MOE PLUMBING DON'T DESCRIBE THE WORK THAT WAS SUPPOSEDLY DONE. CLEARLY THESE WERE POSTED BY FRIENDS OR EMPLOYEES OR IT WOULD ACTUALLY TALK ABOUT THE WORK RATHER THAN CALLING IT ""ISSUES"" AND SUCH.
HERE IS A REAL EXPERIENCE. I called Moe Plumbing to light a pilot on a furnace because my handyman was out of town. I was told they would give me a free estimate of anything else that was wrong. Sure enough they told me that the furnace needed a ""rebuild"" and that several parts were not functioning. I had just had the furnace rebuilt a few years before so knew they were not being honest. The technician said he took the liberty of changing a part, without my permission, but it still didn't work and so he installed a new thermostat, again without my permission and even though the thermostat was only a few months old. Still the furnace didn't work so he said I should replace it and he could get me a deal on a new one. I said that he should not have replaced parts without telling me first and that he should come back and get the thermostat and asked for the old part to be put back on the furnace. He never came back but when my handyman returned he looked at the supposedly ""new"" part and said it was at least five years old and had he could tell was the same part because it was corroded to the pipe so was clearly not a replacement. He lit the pilot and the furnace worked fine....that was all that was needed.
Shortly after I received a bill from Moe plumbing for a service call, which I disputed because he hadn't done any work and because they had told me that it was a free estimate so I shouldn't have been charged for his opinion, which was dishonest/wrong anyway. The technician had been there only about 1/2 an hour, according to my tenant, and they claimed he was there for 2 hours. This was explained to me as 'travel time"" because they were charging from the time the appointment was set even though he arrived one hour late and they were also charging for his travel time after the appointment to go to his next job. When I refused to pay the $250 charge they sold it to a collection agency, and it turned up on my credit report. I asked them to take it off but they refused saying I should take it up with the lawyer they sold it to....they had been paid by him. The woman in collections laughed when I told her it was affecting my credit and said that I should just pay it if I wanted to get it off my credit because I would be paying more for bad credit. She didn't even care that I didn't owe it. So its clear that part of their business is to sell accounts to collection agencies to extort payment on bills that you don't owe. Also, when I posted a bad review on Angie's List they responded by saying that they had never done work for me (which is true) even though my complaint was that they hadn't done the work they claimed and that they had unlawfully sold the billing to a collection agency.
