We purchased a air-conditioning/heating unit from F. H. Furr, through Costco, in 2018, for approximately $8,000. We could have gotten a unit for less, but we felt that the Costco connection would give us some extra customer service protection. We have had a couple of issues with faulty parts, but they were resolved to our satisfaction. We took the monthly subscription plan 3 years ago, but have yet to see any benefit to that. We are supposed to get at least one seasonal check up, but did not get that, even though we were at home and the technician never came. When I called to reschedule, I was told that I would have to wait 3 months for a visit. Needless to say, I was very disappointed.

My current problem is this. We woke up Sunday morning to a cold house, and whenever I went to adjust the digital thermostat, it would not allow an adjustment number to show, and showed the temperature to be 65 degrees. The only thing that showed was ""Battery"". I tried to find multiple ways to open the unit, but it would not budge. I called the F.H.Furr number and got a very nice person on line. I explained my dilemma to her and told her about the things I had tried. I read her all of the information on the thermostat and she found our account and told me the name of the thermostat. I asked if she could tell me what I could do, because we were afraid for it to get colder during the night, because we are in our 80's with multiple health challenges. She asked some questions and she told me that some of the newer thermostats required a technician to open them. She also told me that my thermostat was still under warranty, she mentioned that we had the subscription plan, and that she could send someone out to help us, as early as Tuesday, but that if she sent someone out on Sunday, there would be a $100 charge. I told her that we could not afford that, so we would have to wait for Tuesday. Never did she mention that there would be ANY charge for a person coming on Tuesday. Well, this morning, a person came, squeezed hard on the side of the thermostat and told me that it was the battery. No one had ever shown me that before or did anyone tell me that I should exert extra strength on it to remove the cover, or that the people who come for the check ups were not checking the thermostats. I had no idea what kind of battery was in there or how to access that battery. I am shocked that they think that they should charge me $97 for this.

I am in the process of trying to contact the owners of the company and Costco about this. I had a problem with the unit early on and the owner was able to resolve it nicely. I was absolutely NOT told that there would be a charge for this service, and I declined the rush service that was to cost $100.

I talked my daughter in purchasing her unit through Costco, this summer, and now I am hoping that I did not set her up for poor customer service.

I can't even begin to tell you how communication with this company is. It started when I needed an electrician to install an outlet near my washing machine. The tech they sent me, identified that my electrical panel was overheating and needed to be replaced. He scheduled for him to return the next day and install it. He advise he would arrive at 8 AM to start the project and it would take about three hours. He did not show the next day until 9 AM, and then the project took until approximately 3:30 PM. I wound up burning through and entire day of PTO time rather than a half-day. Fast forward to today, my inspection, FH Furr sent me a text message indicating that they would perform my inspection between 8-8:30 AM. In the AM, I contacted the county who advised that it would be between 1-1:30 PM. At this point I contacted the company, and the first person I spoke to transferred me to a voicemail. Called back and was on hold, before talking to another person and being transferred to Stephanie who was of some help. She advised the tech would return by 1 PM to do the inspection and be ready by 1:30 PM. I called again at 1:12 PM as nobody had showed up. I was advised the tech was 10-15 minutes away. They had switched technicians to perform the inspection, and never communicated this. The tech arrived at approximately 1:36 PM to perform the inspection; however, as a result of the lack of communication again, I wound up wasting another day of PTO time.
I will say, once he was here, he was efficient, polite, and explained how this mess may have actually occurred. Expect that there is no window, they will send you a text message with a timeframe, but it is not the timeframe you will/may need.
So communication from the people who schedule/arrange appointments (1star), my initial electrician (2 stars - pleasant but all over the place. He was on the phone with someone most of the job and just seemed sort of disorganized ), and the patient professional tech for inspection, Celso (5 stars) he had no idea what he was walking into, my extreme frustration, and the lack of communication.

Update (I've been trying to update without success for at least a week and a half). I had a second interaction for my heating inspection as I have their preferred partner plan. They did reschedule once as they had emergency customers on Monday (understandable if you have an emergency). I am assuming I would receive the same attention if I had an emergency rather than preventative maintenance. They did work with me to reschedule when the second time I had scheduled did not work for me. They provided a time slot and they did honor it. The communication this time vs the last was night and day. The technician Jason was also awesome. He was professional, articulate, and explained all of his recommendations very well.

Thanks for fixing our faucet, but no thanks for any future services due to unwelcome sales tactics, including pressuring my wife to sign off on stuff we DO NOT NEED while I was at work. I am already letting everybody I know not to use this business. For those who might say ""this is how it's done,"" no it's not. The only reason we went with this company is because our usual company couldn't make it out and we needed someone asap. Never have we as a family experienced this type of pressure from a plumbing company, maybe used cars. Just fix my problem and be on your way.

F.H. Furr Company (Furr) is guilty of false advertising and deceptive marketing practices. The company's advertising states they provide ""100% Satisfaction Guarantee - We promise your complete satisfaction-GUARANTEED! If you are not fully satisfied, let us know, and we'll make it right.""

On 8/29/2022, Furr performed a routine plumbing inspection of our home. The plumber reported that we needed a new shut-off valve in our upstairs bathroom and that he could fix everything in an hour or so. However, he was not able to complete the task as the valve that he installed leaked. He called for backup support to help him. After another 5 - 6 hours, the two plumbers reported that the repair was made. We paid them nearly $1,100, but the plumbing work was not done correctly and their faulty work resulted in water damage to the bathroom flooring and the adjacent bedroom closet. On 9/6 another Furr plumber came to the property to fix the leaking valve and said the other workers did not make the repairs correctly. Once we discovered the damage on 9/12, another Furr plumber came to the property to assess the damage, determine the cause, and ensure that the leak was fixed properly. He cut a hole in our vanity and wall to confirm there was no active leak behind the walls. As a result of the leak created by Furr, we suffered significant losses to our property and great inconvenience.

Instead of ""making it right"", Furr has deferred our issue to their cut-rate insurance policy. They are unwilling to replace our carpet, bathroom flooring, custom closet organizer, vanity, and repair all of the damages from their own negligence. Furr has bowed out and told us to work with their insurance company who has advised us that it would only pay the current cash value of our loss, not the replacement cost. Their insurance company recommends we contact our home owner insurance company to pay for the difference to restore us to the position we were in before Furr damaged our property, potentially raising our insurance premiums. Furr also made no offer to refund what we originally paid them to make the repair which they botched.

Furr is not a company to be trusted to honor its commitments and only does the minimum when they damage your property due to their poor-quality work.

Through Costco I purchased the complete A/C unit (cooling and heating) and installation. Here are the issues I experienced:

Workmanship:
1) Didn't pass inspection once the unit was installed, had to sort out the issues took extra days and many phone calls to correct, people trafficking in and out at the peak of COVID.
2) Broke my outside water hose when they were installing the outside unit, didn't realize it till days later
3) They sent a survey immediately after the work, same day!!!, DO NOT complete the survey till inspection is complete and you check the work area they worked at.

Professionalism:
1) Prior to their visit to perform the work, I repeatedly said no one will be allowed to use my bathrooms ...upon arrival the guy was pooping in his pants and needed to use my bathrooms!!!
2) Tricky people made mess when I wasn't looking, very disappointed.
3) I also signed an annual Maintenace contract, they send you kids who don't even know how to operate their own tools', but surely they always find a long list of problems that needed to fixed ASAP. When I asked for a written diagnosis, nothing, instead, they just sent me the estimate of the repair and replacement costs!!! Indeed tricky people, don't like their work ethics. I am writing a colorful complaint to Costco as well.

FH Furr is advertising a drain clear/unclog for $83.00, or it's FREE! Well, don't fall for it is a false advertisement.
I have a clogged drain. A technician came, worked on it for 15 minutes or so, and told me it should be working fine. So I paid, and after he left, I filled the washing machine, and the water was still backing up.
I called the main office. The person I talked to told me that since the technician had already left, I needed to set up a new appointment and charges and that there was no guarantee on the job the tech had just done.
The advertisement doesn't say anything about the job not being guaranteed, but funny that it says that they make sure that they do the job right the first time. Really?

HORRIBLE COMPANY
CALLED TO GET AN ER AFTER HOURS AS ADVERTISED. Was called back and told technician would be here in an hour. It has now been two hours it's 1AM and no answer. I've reached out to the office twice and the chat service. No one can get me answer to where the technician is or why they aren't here or if they're even coming. We've waited up and we have a new baby and absolutely no communication on their part. HORRIBLE COMPANY DO NOT WASTE YOUR ENERGY OR TIME WITH THEM. Advertise as 24/7 service and absolutely no help.

I needed HVAC cleaning services and was introduced to this company thru Costco. It was meant to be affordable, like a $500 job. I agree with many of the other reviews, that the final price tag was double. It's a hard sell when they're on site. The techs seemed knowledgeable. They focused on the cleaning. No one walked me thru if I'm having any issues or what to do to take care of the system. I'm not sure if the air flow was adjusted for example to maximize cool air to top floors. I was also told to update the filters and that they wud get back to me because they didn't have the right size w them. I've had no follow up on that. I've used this company on 2 follow up services, but the prices are so high. Even if you pay the extra annual cost to be a preferred ""Furr Family"" customer, I def did not see any benefit to this. Will not be using them in the future.

A customer who wishes there were honest -- as well as transparent -- reviews prior to utilizing F.H. Furr services.

First, the person who came out to service my home was fair and knowledgeable in his job -- no concerns there. However, the company writ large is where I have majority of my concerns.

For context, my A/C was making a buzzing (or humming) noise from the inside furnace area. After reading many troubleshooting steps, it called for fixing one of two things: air capacitor or blower motor. I bought the air capacitor from Amazon for $5.00; more importantly, it took me less than 15 mins to install myself with the help of several Youtube videos. However, unfortunately, the air capacitor wasn't the issue. Instead, the issue was the blower motor. Now, here is where my gripe comes in... Please read before using the services of F.H. Furr.

A blower motor online costs anywhere from $120 to $300. However, specifically for my furnace, I needed a 1050 RPM, 115 volt motor, 1/2 Horsepower, 48Y frame. After consulting with my father-in-law, who is a licensed electrician, he estimated with parts and labor -- that the entire job would cost roughly $500-$600. When the maintainer came out, the job took no more than an hour and a half. The specific model that F.H. Furr bought for my house was motor that had a model#: K55HXgcE-9402. After calling a store, they said that exact motor costs $270.97 -- for simplicity I'll round it to $300. Well, when it was all said and done, the job costs me $1,300.44. For the record, they may have changed the fan blades (Squirrel Cage) which costs typicall $20.

Let's do the math.

Part: $300 (Motor) + $20 (Cage)
-- Total Cost: $1,300.44
_______________________

= $980.44 (LABOR FEEs)

Divide that by two hours of work = $490.22 (or $500) per hour for JUST LABOR.

Once again, after consulting my father-in-law, he outright called that unethical. Labor fees for contractors should NOT be $500 per hour.

If there wasn't a situation where my family needed to have the A/C fixed immediately, I would have out-sourced to a local contractor (Pro-tip: Use a contractor that doesn't have grand Ads -- because they pay a lot for it and they need to make up those costs). Find an honest -- local -- vendor that is willing to charge earnest money for a pretty quick job. I almost get the vibe of car dealerships that price spike vehicles during the pandemic -- just because they can and customers will come regardless.

Without a doubt, having a specific skill set and knowledge on how to fix something allows you to charge whatever price you want; but, to the point of my father-in-law, basic ethics and morals should be factored into the pricing. Also, for the record, if he didn't live in another state, he would have done it himself.

In aggregate, save yourself $980.44 in LABOR FEE(s) -- and find a honest company that is willing to charge fair prices.

*P.S. if you sign up for their membership, which is merely a credit card, it will ""save"" you money. The original quote was $1,500.44 -- which ultimately did ""save"" me money. However, if I didn't get their membership. Their LABOR FEE(s) -- alone -- would have been $1,180.44. ***That's $590.22 per hour.***

This is merely an honest review with basic elementary math involved. I wish I saw a post like this before committing to their service call.

Lastly, I was told by the call center that the servicer had received the parts and will be out to service my house that day. Well, after waiting all day for their call, I decided to call back. Well, I was never scheduled -- and they wanted to argue that they told me they will schedule me the following day. After telling them that I was told specifically by (name omitted due to privacy) they couldn't argue with me. However, they still didn't come out like they said they would.

Scheduled appt. emphasizing that I wanted to be first call in the morning so that I wouldn't get jerked around about schedule. Received call AT appt. time advising ""sorry dude, the guy isn't going to be there until between 10am and 2pm. Another morning wasted. These guys absolutely don't give a cr*p about anything.
