I had a maintenance service with this company for many years because I was too uninformed to find a company able to provide home services .i found their employees to be unbelievably condescending. After they completely replaced the water tank and everything associated, I have been unable to have hot water in my kitchen. I finally got smart and got a real service company that is top notch. You can see that review as well but my recommendation is, don't waste your time with F.H. Furr. They are beyond creative when it comes to things they can charge you for. If they fail to complete a repair, you will have to pay to have them come back. I stopped using them three years ago and just realized how much better my life is. Run, don't pause, you deserve better.
I'm in the market for a preventive water heater replacement.
I was referred to Furr by Costco - this was after Big Costco called and told me they don't do water heaters, so I'd already had Lowe's come in and give me an estimate (for $35, which applies to their price if I get it from them).
I decided to get a second opinion since it was free, and Josh was dispatched by Furr to come take a look (but, as noted in another review, with NO idea of when between 8 and 8 that might be). I did get a 45 min head's up, and Josh arrived with booties (which made me happy because I'd just had my carpets cleaned) and was VERY personable, professional, thorough and informative, in fact taking the time to look at some of my other (OLD) piping with suggestions of what work needed to be done and why.
I got a detailed, written estimate for the WH and other work, and Josh explained the ""membership"" (15% off and annual HVAC and electrical checkups). Unfortunately their WH is not in my budget (significantly more than Lowe's, although I got the impression it might be more professional).
Bottom line: 5 stars for Josh, 3 stars for Furr's price and general response. I would consider them (esp Josh) again for other plumbing work.
Kevin N.I have seen the commercials over and over again and thought they were a family owned business. So I called F.H. Furr because I needed a toilet replaced on the main level of my house. They came out the same day which was great. They guy who came was a very nice and explained their price gauging prices!! He was very polite about it and understood that I didn't want to pay $1,100 for a basic toilet replacement. Their toilet cost was around $515 for a $209 toilet from Home Depot and another $480 for installation and another $125 for a shut-off valve replacement. Ridiculous!!
Great people but outrageous prices!
Brian B.Furr installed a unit for a neighbor of mine and the unit is tripping off due to high ambient heat. It was installed next to my unit...my unit was in place for over a year prior to Furr installing the neighbors new unit. My unit never created an issue for the neighbors old unit.
Just because Furr obviously installed a lemon for my neighbor, they state that the unit is tripping off due to my unit creating too much heat. I had taken infrared temperature readings at my unit and my unit actually puts out 9F less than all other adjacent units. It is pathetic how a company won't own up to its own mistakes and just take care of the faulty unit.
This is from some time ago but I just signed up for yelp so here it is. My installation date was on 2/20/09. To make a long story short they installed the new heating and air conditioning system. After installation they left for the day and the system was not operational. It remained that way for a couple of days. Eventually they were able to make the system operational. During the time the system was not operational I called them and was forwarded to the service department. I explained the situation to the Service Manager, I believe the gentlemen's name was Mike, and told him from the earlier conversation what was needed to solve the problem. During our conversation I told him how I was upset that the new system costing me money. Also, the fact that the machine was sitting in pieces with the cover off exposed in the weather for two full days. At this time the Manager felt it necessary to belittle me and offer to send me twenty dollars to cover the additional heating costs. He also reminded me that the system was designed to be outside (and apparently unassembled as well with weather proof covers off). When I asked the gentleman why he would say such a thing, he only stated that he was not responsible for the installation technicians, only for the service technicians. This was the only aspect of the entire business transaction that I was not pleased with. If this conversation would have taken place prior to the installation I would certainly have taken my business elsewhere. Since that time I have never used FH Furr and would never use them in the future.
Online chat is horrible!!! I tried to get a simple price for duct cleaning and was asked for phone or email in case we got disconnected, if we did i would just start a chat again. Was then asked when i was planning on getting it done? Was then told to get connect with an account person. All this non sense for a duct cleaning quote? wow...21st century...hello? provide a simple price people!!!!!! Not going to jump through hoops and waste 10 minutes of my time for something that should have only taken 45 seconds to figure out. Customer experience...get it right.
Darren M.After the first major cold weather of the year we had a pipe burst right before the weekend and needed a plumber fast. After calling several other companies and finding out no one would be available for several days we called FH Furr and they were able to get someone out immediately (they didn't over promise on the phone but wow did they deliver). The plumber showed up within a few hours and did a great job, didn't try to sell us anything we didn't need, and spent an extra 30 minutes with my wife and I educating us on the work he did and other items to watch out for the future. He fixed another leak we had with the turn of a wrench and didn't charge us extra. Cost was lower than what My Plumber quoted us for some other work we were considering. Bottom line is that if you need a plumber don't mess around call these guys.
My 80 year-old parents purchased an entire top-of-the-line Lennox heat-pump system 1 1/2 years ago via Costco to replace a very old oil-fired furnace.
They have experienced ongoing problems with their $8000 system leaking refrigerant and my parents had to call once again last November to report the heat was no longer working. FH Furr's customer service person on the phone was extremely rude and actually argued the fact that the heating system was no longer working. They finally did sent someone to come fix it, but by Christmas the heat wasn't working again. After my parents made several calls resulting in little response I stepped in and ended up speaking to the general manager, Joe Banford, who blamed the cold home on all sorts of things: the house, the insulation, etc. He also mentioned the manufacturer is using thinner materials in their coils, and thus the coils are more prone to leaking refrigerant nowadays. We now know about the company's commitment to the products they purvey.
But it also turns out FH Furr did not replace the 47 year old refrigerant lines despite being asked to do so. The result is that there is now uncertainty about the installation and who is to be held responsible for the refrigerant leak. We also found they did not offer an extended labor warranty which is offered by the manufacturer which would have prevented the situation entirely.
FH Furr provided an estimate for $900 just to come troubleshoot their own installation. This cost covers troubleshooting only and still will not provide a working system.
So essentially, FH Furr did not do what was asked of them and failed to provide a cost-effective climate control solution. Lennox and Costco have not yet responded to letters bringing this to their attention.
I did receive a call from the installation manager which resulted in nothing since the GM is out of town, and apparently nobody has been appointed to make decisions during the GM's absence. In the meantime Virginia is experiencing another snowstorm (Today is Feb. 13) and my parents are still in the cold.
We will have to find another contractor to fix this.
FH Furr is comfortable with bilking an 80 year old couple out of $8K and leaving them without heat for months during this record-breaking winter.
The question is now: How will they treat you or your parents?
RIP-OFF ALERT!
I made the mistake of getting a one-year contract with these folks, and today I had my ""free plumbing inspection,"" which consisted of the guy shining a flashlight under all of our sinks (except one he ignored). When I asked a question about our dishwasher, he said they don't do applicances.
I asked for an estimate to repair or replace a bathroom faucet. Installation alone (we had bought a replacement faucet already) is $498! REALLY?
And to replace our 75-gallon water heater: $2,878!!!! REALLY?
These prices are outrageous. Just take advantage of their $49 annual furnace inspection and don't get any more involved with these people.
P.S. Good luck scheduling them. Last time they told me ""between 9 and 11:30"" and then called at 10:45 to say that the guy had been in a meeting (What, they couldn't foresee that?) and would arrive in 30 to 90 minutes. Since I had 1 PM plans, I had to reschedule. They kept saying the guy was shown as being at our house, but he wasn't. I've noticed they have a habit of parking on the streets nearby for quite a while before/after appointments.
Until today, the guys always called when they were en route (at least a 20-minute warning, which is helpful). Today they showed up at 8:15 when I was still in my bathrobe -- no call beforehand. ARGH! I called the office afterward and they said ""They don't usually call before showing up for the first morning appointment."" Wish I'd known!
There was a second guy trailing along; I assume he was a trainee. No explanation.
C T.Can you give someone zero stars? If so I would give this company desire it.
I call them up to come over to inspect my broken hot water heater. I have been troubleshooting the issue with rheem who have parts warranty but not labor. So I decide to let a SO CALLED professional to handle this issue since its been 1 week without hot water.
The tech show up and told me that my pilot light will not start cause the unit is DIRTY. I am ask are you serious. How would that cause my pilot light unable to light? He goes the unit need to breathe. I am like ok, how much? $385 just to pull the burner out and vacuum the inside.
I than ask him, I believe the gray box that control the temp might be the issue, cause as you tired the light comes on for a second but turns off when you change the temp from pilot lighting to hot.
He goes if that was the case it will be another $590 to replace. I am like that close to 1k for a repair where I can replace it with a tankless for that price.
So I send him packing and google the issue and found out it was the TRD that broke which cause the unit not to light up.
Seriously, a professional who have no idea how to troubleshoot this issue. I even call the the company back and complain to the manager. That was fruitless, I pretty much got sorry, we are human.
If you have over 30 years of experience and been doing as a career you should train your employee alot better.
I would not use them again.
