I too was Ripped off!!! I called the drain doctor for a simple shower cartridge replacement. I was told that it would cost me over $400 as the replacement parts are expensive and that it is not easily available. Out of curiousity, i googled the parts that were needed for the shower replacement as the plumber was fixing it. Was extremely shocked to find out that the maximum amount the parts cost in a store was only $100 and the plumber took around 20 minutes to replace the shower cartridge.

I then asked the plumber the amount he had paid for the parts, for which he once again replied that his service charge was only $85 and the remaining amount ($340) would be for the parts as the parts needed are expensive.

I will not use them again!!!

Do not use these guys!!! These guys showed up an hour late after making an apointment with me the previous day. No apologies or explanations. The guy then charges us $65 for 30 seconds of work!!! I will never use them again, and I would caution you all not to use them.

Unprofessional!!!!!!!!!

I was preparing for a dinner party. The bathroom suddenly flooded while someone was showering. The shower was barely draining and the toilet would not flush. We called our homeowner's insurance and they sent out a plumber. That plumber told us that it was a mainline problem and that without a clean out they would not be able to help me since the ins. does not cover pulling the toilet or going through the roof vent and the plumbing co. no longer would go through anyone's roof due to liability issues.

So I looked in the phone book and called Drain Doctor. They have a full page ad. I clearly explained to the dispatcher that I needed someone to come and clear my main line by snaking it through the roof. I was told that they do that kind of work. When the technician got here, he explained that he didn't have equipment that would be able to snake through the roof and reach out to the street and that furthermore the snake he would have to use would really be inadequate for snaking a main line. So why didn't the dispatcher simply tell me that they don't snake the main line through the roof??? The tech also told me that I wouldn't be able to find any plumber who would be able to snake from the roof vent out to the street. He told me that he could go through the toilet by pulling it out (for $400) but that it wouldn't necessarily fix the problem, either, that my only sure course of action would be to install a clean out. So, feeling that we didn't have much of a choice we had them pull the toilet and luckily the blockage was cleared quickly.

Right after this incident we decided to look into installing a clean out and this time I checked on Yelp and called Fifteen Dollar Sewer and Drain who had great reviews. I found out that their techs use a machine that stays on the ground and has a snake long enough to go up through the roof and reach beyond the street and a cable which is the appropriate size for snaking mains. Fifteen Dollar Sewer and Drain charges only $175 to snake through the roof. If only I had known. We could have saved $200.

It also bothered me that they used my towels and that they tracked a lot of dirt into the house every time they went out and in. First, they used my towels to clean up the mess. Maybe this is just common practice and I have never been in a flooding situation like this before. We had used most of my extra bath towels to sop up the water before they got here. After they arrived, they asked for more towels to absorb the water. Then once the floor was dry they asked for more towels which they used to clean up when they pulled the toilet and reinstalled it. At this point I would have appreciated them having their own towels. My towels were stepped on and manipulated with workboots and used pretty roughly for cleaning up around the hole when the toilet was removed and the toilet itself when they put it back. During the job, they walked in and out of the house a number of times. Each time they walked through the house, they tracked packed dirt pieces across the floor which I kept having to clean up.

Additionally, they made some comments about our bathroom practices which I did not feel were appropriate. I guess it's kind of touchy discussing things about the bathroom, but I felt that they could have used more tact.

They are also overpriced. After clearing the main, my bathtub was still barely draining. The tech told me that for an extra $140 marked down from $180 he could snake my bathtub. Fifteen Dollar Sewer and Drain snakes branch lines for only $82.50. Through my homeowner's insurance it only costs $60. So I didn't take the tech up on his offer.

Another thing which bothered me was the way that they kept my credit card information. They wrote down my cc number on the work order and then after calling it in they scribbled it out saying that this would ensure that my card number could not be stolen. It did not strike me as a very secure practice.

Ultimately I was able to have my dinner party, which I was grateful for, but I will never use this company again.

I have used this company several times for my plumbing issues and each service repair tech has been very kind and helpful. They were always willing to explain the situation and options. They work on Holidays at no extra cost. Thumbs up!

RIPPED OFF!!!! We called them previously, a few times and was very happy with our services and the person they sent out. This time it was a leaky kitchen faucet (""fixed"" by them previously) which we needed to replace as well as the tub faucet in the bathroom. In two hours he was done, after sending my husband out to get a correct part, then tried to charge us over $500 for the service!!! When my husband balked, they guy came down about $50 and wouldn't leave without payment. We tried for two weeks to get this resolved as we did not want to stop payment on the check. Obviously this was a HUGE mistake because they have cashed our check without so much a any type of resolution. WILL NOT use their services ever again and I am planning to file a complaint with the BBB...as well as giving out a shout out on FB, that always works wonders ;)
BEWARE people!!!!

These people are incompetent idiots. Had to spend two days off of work to get some
work done and the second day after confirming the arrival time twice, I called at the due
time and was told to wait for another hour. Finally, when I asked to speak to the owner,
I was told he never comes to the office and does not take call. STAY FAR AWAY!!!!

I had a terrible experience. There was a blockage in the kitchen sink. After an hour of putzing around, (for which we were charged $250), the plumber tried to convince us to break open the concrete under the kitchen to crack open the pipes, which would have cost $2800. The next day we rented a plumbing snake for less than $50 which took care of the problem.

my mother, who is 85 years old, called the drain doctor yesterday to snake a drain line blockage outside a cottage behind her home in san jose. periodically this drain line gets clogged. over the years it has been snaked a number of times by various plumbing contractors. the amount billed has always been $150.00 or less. after doing an inspection of the blockage problem my mom was told that snaking the line would not take care of the problem. she was advised that cement would need to be removed and some drain line replaced. my mom was told total cost of the project worked out to $1,950.00. somehow she was convinced to sign a contract. the neighbor accross the street, who is a building contractor, became curious and came over to ask my mom what was going on. he saw that my mom was upset. he went over to the plumbers and asked alot of good questions.he eventually was told that maybe the work contracted for was not really needed after all. he stood by while the plumbers snaked the drain line. within 5 minutes it was clear. the plumbers agreed to void the original contract, which they did. they now wanted to bill my mom $490.00 for the 5 minute snake job. again my moms neighbor stepped in. he called the drain doctors office and asked them how much they charged for a routine drain line snake job? he was told $145.00. he convinced the plumbers to make up a new contract for that amount and my mom immediately paid it. this is an obvious case of a plumbing contractor trying to take advantage of an elderly lady. she is very thankful that her neighbor stepped in to assist her. my mom has a bad heart and she had to lay down following this ordeal. be very careful when hiring this contractor that you do not contract for work you don't need.

My senior parents called for a sink backing up. After charging them $195 they told them they had a collapsed pipe and could have it fixed for $4500 to start. I called another plumber who completely reran new pipes and secured their existing pipes for only $450. I don't trust drain dr. To do any work. They take advantage of seniors. Do not use!

We noticed at 6 a.m. that our drains and toilets were backing up, so we had to have a two-way clean-out installed and the sewer main replaced. It took one and a half days total, but there was a weekend in between wherein we were not to put toilet paper in the toilets, not shower, and not run the dishwasher or washing machine. In other words, keep the pipes as clear as possible. The damage was $3,000. It's warranted for five years.

We really appreciated how respectful the guys were in helping us keep our cats out of the way of open doors and the opening to the crawl space. Everyone was really nice and professional. On time, productive, communicative, and respectful.

The missing star is only because we also have a very slow-draining sink, and while it was not related to the showers and toilets backing up, no input was offered nor follow-up appt. advised for how to deal with that problem. It is a relatively small job to call a plumber for on its own, so we're just leaving it for now.

Overall, we are happy with Drain Doctor. This was the second time we've used them. Not being able to freely use the water in your house is an inherently stressful situation, so dealing with friendly, warm workers is hugely beneficial.

Ironically, we now have bidet seats on our toilets so we no longer use toilet paper anyway!
