I called Dutton when my kitchen sink and washing machine lines were backing up. 2 guys came out tried to snake it and it didn't work. Then they advised I need it hydro jetted for 2K. They stated that may not work and if it doesn't I need all new pipes for 16K!! Imagine my shock. Since I wasn't home when plumbers went over issues with my boyfriend I called them to find out why hydro jet is so much. He then said that was to do the whole house..I only want to fix issue at hand! Long story short I called another plumbing company whom I will be giving 5 stars, they came out snaked it twice ran the camera down the lines to ensure all was clear and 1.5 hours and only $125.00 later all lines were clear. Imagine that! I will never recommend this company, they only want scare you and take your money.

700$ \ hour. That's right. This is what they charge.
2400 $ total. I will give them 300$ for parts and the -toilet, which leaves 2100$ for 3 hours labor.

I came home to find my wife gave them 2400$ for a 3 hour job. Toilet leaking so why not take advantage of someone. Its really sad that they are still in business. and they posted so many good review for themselves.
Very expensive lesson. I had no idea that I had to be so careful about predatory plumbers.

Really sad. There goes our vacation this year.

I called and scheduled a dishwasher installation. The tech came out and quoted me $800 for a basic installation. When I balked he asked me what I would be willing to pay. I declined the used car sale approach and asked for his best bid, advising I would get competitive bids. Then when reminded of the $40 service call it all made sense. $40 for 10 minutes of his time and and an absurd bid. These guys are scammers. Avoid.

We had a clogged pipe on Thursday and had a plumber coming in to clear it out. He told us (by using the snake camera) that our main pipe was broken and needed to be replaced. Unfortunately the previous owner had placed tiles on the whole front yard and that need to be removed as well. He said he could do it and it will take a whole day work and he will bring someone else to help him. However he will not be able to replace the tiles. He estimated the cost to be about $2,500. But because he has done previous work for us, he gave us a discount.

In order to get an estimate on the work we called 2 other plumbers including Dutton Plumbing. Cassidy from DP was polite and took all our details said that they would charge $39 just to send someone over to give an estimate and we agreed. She said someone would call within 20 mins to let us know what time they could come over. We waited over 1 hour and no one called.

In the meantime, we also contacted Conejo Valley Plumber and they came over immediately and gave a FREE estimate. We explained to them what the problem was and these guys from Conejo Valley Plumbing knew what they were talking about and were very professional and estimated the work to be $2,500 (including removing the surface tiles etc). They said it will take a day and will take 2 people to do it. They knew what they were talking about just by understanding what

We then called Dutton Plumbing to check if someone was coming over. The second lady who answered (couldnt get her name) said that she could not find our record on her system. To make matters worse, she kept asking me again and again and again to repeat myself. I got frustrated and passed the phone to my boyfriend and asked him to speak with her. He told her to cancel the order since they dont have our record. After hanging up the phone, we get a call from Cassidy telling us that someone will come in 10 mins! I wanted to cancel the order but my boyfriend wanted the estimate.

Dutton sends a young guy who came around 4pm. He did not understand what we were telling him. He said he will put a camera to check and I said ""No"" as someone had done that and we explained to him clearly what was the problem.

First he did not seem to understand what was the problem despite us explaining clearly. Secondly he quotes an estimate of $2,000 to $3,000. Never in my life have I heard of anyone giving an estimate of $1,000 gap!!! If the other 2 plumber can give a precise estimate for FREE, why the hell did I have to pay for $39 for someone who claims to give an estimate but in actual fact did not!! To make it worse, this guy tells us that he can do the work immediately as he had all the tools!!! I was shocked. The other 2 companies said that it will take a whole day to do that work with 2 people while Dutton is sending someone who claims he can do it by himself at 4pm???? I doubted it and categorically said no.

Who would give an estimate of $2,000 to $3,000?? Total scam just to make $39.

It was a total waste of our time, effort and money calling Dutton. If Conejo Valley can do an estimate and were HIGHLY professional, why can't Dutton do it??? We went ahead with our previous plumber who was equally good. He was prompt and deligent in his work and I believe Conejo Valley Plumbing would have done the same. I am going to write a good review for the other 2 companies after this.

I would NEVER recommend Dutton Plubming to ANYOne! Please do your due deligence but do not waste your money for even getting an estimate from Dutton. Personally I think they should refund us the money since in my opinion we did not get an estimate and I dont believe he would have done the job.

In early Mar of this year I had Dutton come out to fix and/or replace a leaky Mixit shower valve. It was 40 years old and we have hard water so it was not a surprise that it needed to be replaced. Steve cam out, was friendly and nice and replaced the valve after fighting with it to remove it. I would have given this 5 stars except the price seemed rather high. Steve sensed this I think and did some additional minor plumbing work at no additional charge. The kicker was that no less than 2 weeks later I had another Mixit valve in a second shower that started leaking. This time I called a local competitor that a neighbor recommended. This outfit also came out as requested and replaced the cartridge - at $200 less than Dutton charged! To be fair, Dutton also replaced the ""trim"" on the first shower but it was a cheap part - probably around $10 (if that). The moral of the story is that Dutton is nice and clean but unless you are getting a $79 drain clearing, you are probably paying too much . . .

BEWARE!! FRAUD ALERT!! My wife and I had used Dutton Plumbing once before for a very minor, inexpensive problem and they performed very well for almost no charge at all.

Then, unrelated to the first problem, my shower stall began backing up. We called Dutton to fix it. They came out and said it should be a simple snake job to clear the shower drain. When that didn't work, they called another guy out with fiber optics to scan the drain. It showed some cracked terra cotta pipe with some mud leaking into the pipe.

Dutton Plumbing said they would have to run a ""sleeve"" through the pipe from the house out into the street where it connects to the city system. My wife and I almost dropped when they said it would cost us $15,000! At this point we felt we had little choice but to go along with this as we were led to believe that soon it would affect not only the shower but the entire house. Having previously had a positive experience with Dutton Plumbing, we mistakenly told them to proceed.

This entire procedure took less than a day. The tools and equipment used were industry standard. Nothing special here. $15,000!

After they left, we noticed the front lawn sprinklers didn't work and Dutton had to return and fix that. They claimed it was not because of anything they'd done, even though they were the only ones to work on it. $15,000.

My wife and I began asking around and discovered this project is a rather straight forward plumbing repair problem, nothing complex or difficult about it at all. A friend who used to work for a plumbing contractor in Santa Barbara told us this is a common problem and not difficult to repair. It's basically slipping a new PVC pipe through the old drain pipe to the street. $15,000!

Another friend who lives nearby had an even worse problem with her blocked drain and they had to rip up part of her garage foundation to repair it. That was less than $5,000.

A neighbor had a similar problem 2 years ago and it cost him $1,700 to get repaired.

Dutton Plumbing seems inclined to take advantage of the elderly when possible. Unfortunately we fell into that catagory. Don't let it happen to you! Stay away from these bait and switch thieves.

I rarely write reviews, but I am taking the time writing this, because I want to make sure everyone knows how fantastic this company is! I just recently used Dutton plumbing for my first time. We have had numerous plumbers, and specialists come to our house to figure out leaks, hot and cold water issues, etc., and nobody has been able to help us. Finally I looked on Yelp and found Dutton by chance, and tried them. I have to say that I would give them 10 stars if I was able to! They showed up at the exact time we scheduled, they were extremely easy to get on a last minute basis, they fixed every single issue FINALLY, they were professional, clean, and all costs were given up front without a single undetermined cost. I can't say enough wonderful things about them, and I HIGHLY recommend them to everyone!!

Elias was awesome. Very thorough in the ""investigation"" of our problem. Explained everything he was doing and why. He was very polite and helpful. He didn't try to take advantage of the problem we had, but gave us all the information we needed to address it when we were ready. He was very sweet to my 3 year old when he was asking Elias questions. I would recommend him with full confidence that a great job would be done! Elias if you ever read this, thank you!

Had them out for a quote to fix a leaky toilet, to fix it and replace the valve & diaphragm was $339.00 and they suggested that it should be replaced for up to $1918.00. Couldn't afford that as the toilet was less then 10 yrs old. Finally checked the internet and ordered a new flapper for $10.00 and fixed it myself. It was so easy I couldn't believe it and I am over 70 and have no strength in my hands from arthritis and yes I did it without any help from my husband.

We called them a couple of months before as we had a leak under a sink and my husband called and they said we had 2 leaks and needed the whole house re-piped for $10,000.00. This we stupidly had done with out getting a second opinion and I was sure we paid a premium but the guys were great and very nice and did a quick job. I gave them an excellent review for that job even though I was sure we could have had it done for ALOT less and as someone else said it wasn't even cooper piping.

Bottom line is buyer beware, especially if you are elderly and live in a mobile home park.
