Worst rip off ever!!
As I throw away the service agreement , list of receipts from work completed ,overcharged and stiil the problem of a smell was never corrected.
Dutton was about to charge me a (discounted rate of $6173.11)for repiping after they mismanaged ,and wrongly diagnosed a problem .that had been going on for over 6 months.
they had different technicians within the company contradicting each other (not all were bad ,just a badly run company) cameras that they don't give you a dvd to watch (something I was told after is comen practice),and very inflated prices .
As it turned out the smell was coming from within a wall where there was a vent compleatly open ,something I had asked dutton if it was possible, but they never considered to cut a small drywall opening to check,as apposed to replaceing a pipe at huge expence.
The pipe under the house that I did have replaced by another company was probably not nessesary at this stage but was old so who knows but on a 2nd opinion was told they would never do it the way dutton had planned as it would have risked breaking up under the concreate slab as it was too close to the surface of the floor and we would have had holes in both the kitchen floor and the living room. And a 2 inch pipe that would not have been suitable anyway.
The cost of the pipe and discovering the real smell problem $4000 no holes in the floor ,much bigger pipe smell gone and all finishing work .
The history of dutton and unnesesary expensces that never fixed the problem that i was charged befor realising I was totally being gripped off almost $2000
Dont ! use them
Marie M.These guys are sneaky. We called them to get a quote for a Water Heater installation. They refused to even give us a ball park figure over the phone. They told us that they need to come out to give us an estimate. They wanted $800.00 for the job and to also charge us for giving the estimate!!! My husband, who is a handyman did not have the time to do the job would NEVER pay for an estimate call! He argued with the manager on the phone. The manager forgave the estimate charge after 20 minutes of arguing. The sneaky thing is that when my husband made the original call for the quote, they never told him there would be a estimate charge. Fortunately, my husband has a friend who is a plumber and did the job for free, even though we tried to pay him.
Gina S.They are plumbers, but act like used car salesmen. They will walk into your home with a binder and tell you that the prices listed are what all plumbers charge. When you are faced with a sever plumbing issue and have to correct it immediately, they know it and stick it to you. After paying over $9000 for a new sewer line, we contacted 5 different plumbers and they all told us the average price for what they did is around $5000. Don't get suckered into their pricey book tricks!
AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!
Here's my story. I had 2 leaky faucets in my bathrooms. I called these guys and they said it would be $39 to come out and have a look.
When they got here, the took the handle off one of the faucets to see what the problem was and told me I now owed them $132 because they had done some work.
Their final estimate to repair 2 leaky faucets was MORE THAN $2000.00!!!! (or only $1600 if I bought a service contract from them)
I went to Lowe's, picked out brand new faucets and they're sending their own plumbers out to install them. Total repair, $400.
The guys at Dutton Plumbing ARE PIRATES!
Found this company in the Yellow pages of course. They quoted $39 just to show up and that it would be applied to the cost of the job if we agreed. Called Mike Diamond and they wanted $75 to show up. Dutton said they charged by the job not the hour. Bottom line the Dutton guy looked at the problem and said it would be $235. We agreed. It took him 10 minutes tops to fix it. The rest was paper work. When we asked if it will be less given that it was so quick? No. They still want $235!! Beware. If a company charges by the job they will jack up the price hoping that it will take them less than one hour. Lesson learned, if you have a simple job ask for an hourly rate. We essentially paid $200 for less than one hour of service on a week night at 7 pm. Did I mention the job. It was replacing leaking end cap on a 1/2 inch line. TOTAL RIP OFF!!! DON'T USE THIS COMPANY!
I should've checked reviews before I called them. Very similar experience to everyone else, except they did show up as promised without any delays.
First, they're expensive. Second, if there's an expensive way to do something, that's what they do. I lost confidence in their honesty when the technician told me you can't rooter a toilet without unseating it. I know this isn't true because I've seen it done - on the very toilet he was pointing to when he said it.
Then, he said the cleanout was clear and not the cause of the stoppage and he'd have to rooter the main line - for another $300. I stopped him there. The toilets that had been clogged were flushing fine. My experience has been that if the main line is clogged, there's a lot more sinks and toilets backing up, not just two toilets on the cleanout he had just rootered. He argued with me but I wouldn't approve any additional work.
Then, for no apparent reason, he checked the water pressure - and told me my regulator was bad and needed replacing. By then, I just wanted him gone. I told him we were through, paid him as quickly as possible and he left.
I will never EVER call Dutton Plumbing again.
Fair P.Stay away from Dutton Plumbing. They are notorious for overcharging - read the reviews on other sites. They charged my elderly parents over $500 for less than 1 hours of verrry simple work. Shame on you Dutton.
Dutton Plumbing is a rip off. Do not use this plumber. They try to charge to repair a broken 3/4 PVC line for over $750+emergency charge (a job that another plumber took less than 30min to complete). They are a total rip off. Get someone else.
I would say something about the quality of their work, except they never showed up to fix my water heater so I can't. The only thing I can say is that their technicians must be super busy, cuz their dispatcher kept telling us that they were running late and asking if we could reschedule for a later time. If a plumber is running late, no biggie. Things happen. We get it. But FIVE TIMES over a 4-day period is simply ridiculous.
We originally scheduled our service for Friday afternoon. After several calls from the dispatcher giving us an update on the plumber's ETA, they finally tell us that their guy was going to be stuck on a job for the rest of the day, so can we reschedule for Saturday morning? Sure, no problem. We're nice people and we understand.
Saturday morning, he was running late again, but we had other things to do that day besides waiting around for the plumber, so we rescheduled for Saturday afternoon. Again, no problem. At 5pm the dispatcher called to say their guy was still working on a job, so can we reschedule for Sunday morning? Sigh. Okay, fine.
On Sunday we get a call telling us that they only do emergencies on Sundays, so can we reschedule for Monday? At this point we were getting a little annoyed, so we asked if they could still come out here but waive the extra $69 fee for a Sunday job. Y'know, as a courtesy for putting us off 3 times. Dispatcher says nope, sorry, no can do.
Really??
Sigh. Alright fine, just make sure your guy comes out here on Monday afternoon. (Day 4 of no hot water, by the way.)
Monday afternoon we get a call from the dispatcher. The plumber is stuck working on a job, and traffic is bad, so can we reschedule for Tuesday?
ARE YOU SERIOUS? You want us to reschedule a FIFTH TIME?
Needless to say, we called someone else, who came out within 2 hours. We're never calling these guys again.
I moved into the Winnetka area about two years ago. I first called Dutton Plumbing to install two cutoff valves under my kitchen sink and install a faucet in the kitchen sink. They sent a guy named Chris M. The first thing he did was insist that I take out a yearly service contract with Dutton in exchange for a discount on his services. So I took out the contract. He then installed the faucet, but only ONE of the cut off valves (I didn't know about this until later). He charged me $125/valve for installing the cutoff valves but only installed ONE! Also the service contract says that they will call YOU to remind you of the yearly service. No one called. So since I had already paid for the service, I called them, and again they sent Chris M., along with another guy. I asked him about the fact that he didn't install two cutoff valves a year ago, and he tried to joke his way out of the situation. These guys don't do good work. They are trying to cheat you by not completing the job or by adding charges you don't need, and the service contract is a JOKE! Seriously - STAY AWAY FROM DUTTON PLUMBING.
