Lois and Wiley D'Spain started D'Spain Sales and Service in Bandera in 1974, after they accepted an opportunity to acquire the HVAC, appliance services, and water supply departments from the Langford Hardware and Lumber Company, where Wiley had been employed for 10 years. Early on, Wiley had an inherent aptitude for all things mechanically inclined and a true passion for wind energy, having grown up on a farm in a nearby county. Lois grew up in East Texas and eventually moved to Bandera after a charming visit one summer. She and Wiley had been together for 23 years before founding the business. Wiley managed all of the air conditioning, appliance services, and well water product sales and services and services, while Lois performed all the bookkeeping practices. Working late evenings and Saturdays and Sundays after her full-time job, Lois managed all the accounting and accounting practices of the operation.
