Doctor Cool serviced my 81-year-old mothers AC unit and less than a month later it stopped working. When she called for service, they told her she needed to be on a "plan" with them. Realizing they had just serviced her unit another person in the office said they would have someone there that day. The AC technician replaced an outdoor capacitor (they call it a battery pack) and presented a bill for $250, plus a service call of $80, altogether $330, I'm guessing because I wasn't given a copy of the invoice. My mother had used this company prior and was part of the "plan", but we will NOT use this company again. After the technician left, I called another residential AC company who told me the charge was ridiculously overpriced and I would have only paid $175 for his service call and the capacitor. What a rip-off! My recommendation would be to call several AC companies before you get hooked into a "plan" and, hopefully, they will be HONEST.

Doctor Cool & Professor Heat sent Sakis out to provide an estimate for a system replacement. I recently had my system recharged with 4 lbs of 410A on a 4 ton system, so I have a leak. I discovered the previous homeowner put a screw through the condenser coil to install a mounting bracket to the condenser pad and thought this to be the source of my leak. Sakis reassured this wasn't the source of the leak and it was probably the evap coil, so we went to take a leak. He visually inspected only and told me it was the evap coil. I was suspicious as there was no oil in sight. He then calculated a Manual J with my assistance as I provided him floorplans with measurements to save him time. 15 minutes later, he provided me with estimates ranging from $20k-$29k. I told him I'd need to think about it. He became frustrated because I told him I needed time to evaluate his offer and the load analysis before spending $30k. He said he just did a load analysis and normally he'd charge for this. He acted as if I owed him the $30k for the few minutes of arithmetic he performed. He left in a huff. Not only that, I go to my attic to see he had bent the hell out of my evap coil door and left it blowing cold air into my attic! I spent a good amount of time trying to undo the damage he created and to top it all off, I got a refrigerant leak detector to tell me the evap coil isn't leaking. When they say HVAC guys are shady, they're talking about Sakis and potentially Doctor Cool & Professor Heat as a whole. Steer clear!

I found this company from the Trane website. They were professional and made a great sales pitch. I agreed to go forward with an install of a new Trane system. The first red flag is that they told me it would be an extra $1,400.00 to remove my attic steps and re-install. They did agree to reduce the $1,400 to $400. I then price checked and found that there quote was $4,500 more then a couple of other installers. I cancelled and agreed to be charged for the service call $94.00. The did put freon in which was n/c if I agreed to there price. When I cancelled they charged me $744 for the freon. Seems very high priced as compared to other service calls that I've had in the past. I will never do business with these people. Too high priced for me.

I'm editing my once negative review to a positive one. Dr. Cool reached out to me and fixed all my problems in a very timely and professional manner.

The other thing I am very impressed about is the quality of their work. The install is perfect. The workmanship is so good they proudly mark it as their work.

I have had this A/C company at my house 3 times. The A/C continues to leak. It has destroyed two sheet rock ceilings. I have invested over 2 thousand dollars fixing ceilings and SUPPOSEDLY repair on the 3 year old Lennox A/C. When I called Saturday 4/25/2021, the first thing out of their mouth was how much they were going to charge me. This A/C company (if you can call them a company) is incompetent and useless. They have no clue what they are repairing. I WOULD NOT USE THESE PEOPLE FOR ANYTHING. They do not stand behind their terrible service. More concerned about the money than the repair. Just look at their YELP rating. 3 1/2 stars. I called Vanderford A/C and they came and worked on the A/C. No mention of money, just wanted to diagnose the problem and fix it. The problem has been diagnosed and parts ordered for repair on Wednesday. WOW. Professional service. What a concept. If you like crappy work, rude employees and a pay me before I get there, then you have the right company. THATS RIGHT! Dr. Cool and Mr. Heat! Give them a call!! Someone has to use this worthless company

After being without electric power for over 84 hours we returned home to discover our heater was not working, back for another night with relatives. We called Dr. Cool & Prof. Heat the next morning and were told they would send someone right out. Shortly thereafter Mike who was very nice and very professional with mask and shoe coverings arrived. He got right to work and determined the heater circuit board was bad. He called the office to get a board and said he would be back that afternoon if they could get one. Miranda called a short time later to inform me they had the board and provided me with a quote which I immediately approved. Mike returned that afternoon with the board which he installed and got the furnace working. He also observed another issue that he tried to correct but told us to call back if it became a problem and he would come back with no service charge. After a few hours the heater warmed our 48 degree cold house to a nice toasty 74 degrees. My wife was very happy. Dr. Cool and Prof. Heat are a class act in my opinion especially Mike.

Absolute pirates... quoted $7500 for 2.5 ton unit. Getting it done for less than half that

I don't normally write negative reviews, but I found this company to be extremely expensive and not very trustworthy. A technician came to my place the same day I called to troubleshoot my 5-ton unit not blowing cold air. He said he thought there was a freon leak but wasn't sure where the leak was coming from. To run the test would be several hundred dollars, and then to fill it with freon would be $700+, so all in all I was looking at $1000+ to get my AC blowing cold air again and there was no assurance that it wouldn't just leak back out. He instead proposed that I just replace the entire unit with an updated Trane model for the price of $11K. After some back and forth he dropped the price to $10K. At this point I felt more like I was in a high pressure sales presentation rather than talking to an AC tech. I told him I would need to think about it and paid the $80 service fee but was in exactly the same spot I was in before he came.

So I read some reviews on Google and Yelp and found SouthBelt Air and Heat instead, Matt came out and looked up at the unit in the attic and the unit outside and told me he could fill it with freon for 1/3 the price quoted by Dr Cool, but told me it wouldn't be a long term fix. I asked him for a quote to replace the unit, he quoted me $5K for the evaporator and the outside unit. He was quoting me an American Standard unit, and explained that Trane is owned by American Standard and they use the same parts in both lines of AC's, but manufacturer them under different names. I did some research after he left to verify and sure enough he was right! Trane is owned by American Standard and they market the Trane line at a higher price point but as far as reliability the American Standard and Trane lines are the same. The next day I called him to do the install, they came a few days later and completed everything very professionally in just a few hours. Matt even offered to fill my old unit with freon while I waited for the new unit to be installed at no charge. A very nice offer. The moral here is get a second opinion before doing business with Dr Cool!

Guy came out to check my still under warranty unit. Made me pay $97 for his visit which I wasn't told over the phone then tried to quote me
$350 new Thermostat (no smart technology)
$160 for a capacitor (which is covered by warranty)
$280 for 2 surge protectors (LOL)
$379 to replace my tent cover in attic (one I have now had no damage is works fine)
$950 for a UV kit install

Tech left my T-Stat rigged to bypass with exposed wires. I doubled checked the status light on the motherboard, which he said was functioning properly, and the manual let me know it was a blown fuse.

$4 for a pack of 5 fuses AC running fine now.

Literally just tried to scam me and did not even honor their warranty.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.

We had a brand new system installed in a home we bought a month before. (September of 2018). The installation took four days but the men doing the install were helpful and professional. It's now been just over 8 months that we've paid for a $15,000 unit and our home is NOT cooling properly! Sometimes it's 85 degrees upstairs and the downstairs is 75 degrees. It's only been recently that this issue is apparent since the summer heat is just setting in for southeast Texas. I was brushed aside by the tech that came today and not only did we have to pay an $80 fee to come out (for a system only installed on September 25th 2018) but he said our thermostat must have reset. After I told him I already knew that wasn't what happened. I'm literally disgusted with Dr. Cool/Professor Heat. I'll never recommend them again. #wegotscrewed
