Company Overview

Deljo Heating and Cooling boasts a rich heritage that spans more than a century in the local HVAC sector. During this period, we have catered to two generations of residents and business owners in Chicagoland, delivering exceptional HVAC solutions. We are committed to excellence, keeping our customers comfortable during the extreme cold of winter and the heat of summer.

The legacy of Deljo started with Del-Nard Fuel Oil, which was established in 1922. By delivering thorough furnace cleaning and repair services in the Chicago region, the company swiftly became known for its excellent customer service. For the next 60 years, it continued to meet the heating demands of its Chicagoland neighbors, paving the way for the next phase of the brand's growth.

In the early 1980s, Bob Clement entered the scene, acquiring the well-regarded company and taking charge. This modest five-person team upheld the tradition of excellent service that had defined the Del-Nard brand. Soon after, Bob welcomed his brother Bill to the team, and their partnership helped the business thrive. Their joint effort evolved into the expansive family-run business that Deljo Heating and Cooling has become. The early legacy of the company laid a strong foundation for its future success.

As owners for over 30 years, Bob and Bill Clement have committed their lives to the HVAC business. Deljo, a family-owned and operated business, treats its employees and customers like family.

I had a great experience with my Deljo sales person and technicians. I needed a new A/C unit for my condo. Everything was explained to me thoroughly and when the time came to install the unit the technicians were wonderful. They worked in the rain to make sure that our air conditioning was up and running that same day. Although they were a little higher priced than our other estimates, I believe that you get what you pay for.

Deljo is pretty good.

They were extremely on the spot and responsive to us during the polar vortex. Even during that frantic period, they got back to us immediately.

They also recommended to us an expensive A/C system, that would not have worked out so great for us because our house has no return grilles in the top floor. I did a full walk through of the house with their salesman, nice guy, including the upstairs. I didn't know jack about returns and vents and how they work to keep the air moving through your house to keep you cool, etc., and the salesman didn't mention it, either. He may just not of noticed.

Because of some surprise medical bills, we ended up luckily going with a cheaper system, anyway. One of the system installers explained to me why my upstairs was still so warm and humid, even after the vents had been opened all the way and the doors had been left closed for a couple of hours. It was because we didn't have returns and vents creating higher pressure and a better flow of air. Of course, I understand heat rises, so there will ALWAYS be a difference between an upstairs and downstairs, regardless of the AC system, but knowing that I would still have to use a window unit, even after the installation was finished and the system was running, because I had no return grilles, would've definitely factored into my initial decision, at least price-wise. Thank god we went with the cheaper option. Good enough for us.

But on the plus side, they got all the work done in one day and the system they put in works just great. And we really feel that their Gold Star program pays for itself.

Overall a great experience working with Ralph. My air conditioner started freezing on an 80 degree day and Deljo came within hours (scheduled through comfort24-7.com). They added some refrigerant to my 19 year old air conditioner and it's still humming.

Was a bit worried because of the reviews but Ralph proved me wrong, I even let him know I was worried. He explained everything along the way and was a true professional. Couldn't have been a better experience.

Would be delighted to use them again and happy to serve as a testimonial.

Cheers!

Awful. I made an appointment and a guy from DELJO to come out to inspect our air handler because our A/C wasn't running cold. He didn't want to inspect the compressor because he would have to get his ladder and it was raining. Then he wouldn't touch the furnace/air handler to inspect it without me suggesting it. He basically showed up to collect a check for standing in my kitchen. The guy from DELJO was a huge waste of time and hugely unhelpful. But the best part came at the end when he wanted to charge me double the agreed rate because he had gone over the time allowed. Terrible experience.

I'm sure all of you out there remember how HORRIBLE the winter of 2014 was. Mine was extra bad as it was my first winter as a homeowner, and everything that seemed to go wrong when the windchill was 40 below out, did.

To my rescue came Deljo heating. Upon receiving a frantic call from me after 5 PM, they were able to send an emergency tech over that evening to do a quick evaluation. I had a massive crack in my furnace and it needed to be replaced as soon as possible. The team at Deljo was able to handle the replacement within 1 business day. The tech handling my install was kind, got right to work and was extremely tidy as well. He did take a while with the install (almost 9 full hours) but I'd rather have it take a bit and be done right the first time.

What prompted this review was the phone call I just received reminding me to get my complimentary A/C cleaning appointment scheduled now that spring is on the way. What company actually reminds you that you have a free service visit upcoming and they'd like you to schedule it? Talk about pro-active with customer service, I love it.

When at our condo to address a different issue, the repairman (Alan) noticed that our furnace was getting carbon monoxide blown into our unit from a neighboring unit that shares our ventilation system. Alan reported the situation to his supervisor, Ken, who personally came out to look at the furnace, walked me through the issue, and offered to write a letter to our building management explaining the problem in order to help me have it resolved. Ken also offered to meet with our building management. All told, they have already spent 4+ hours in our home and have not charged us for their service. I appreciate their care and concern for our safety. Alan, Ken and the people I have spoken to on the phone have been pleasant and professional.

- BEWARE - Had a furnace issue. Too many DIY fixes on Google. Called Deljo based on reviews. Tech was prompt, courteous & explained every detail. Problem solved. HOWEVER.... Be aware that the $89 is just to show up and diagnose. Ask what the flat rate fee is before the repair/fix. It's worth throwing away the $89 (for small
fixes). $206 (+89) to change T-stat wires around (5 min). No, they did nothing wrong, but ask first. Don't make the expensive mistake that I made.

If you're looking for a company that will quote an expensive job (replacing a steam boiler for almost $8K) without the necessary expertise to get the job done right, Deljo's just the company for you. If I had a time machine (at least not one that was constructed or serviced by Deljo), I would use it to go back in time and slap myself in the face before making the mistake of hiring them. Deljo's greatest strength has proven to be their ability to disappear after you find a problem, or in this case many problems, with their work and ask them to fix it. Next up for me: scour Yelp for a highly rated heated and cooling company to come in and get the job done right.

Deljo has gone down the tubes in the last 5 years or so and I apologize to anyone that saw my previous review and relied on it. First, they upsell everything. We actually bought their furnace/A/C ""maintenance plan"" which is completely useless. Not only did we pay for maintenance that wasn't needed, but it led up to what has cost me about $4500 in repairs because of something that Deljo couldn't fix properly.

Our ""maintained"" A/C unit stopped cooling early this summer and we called Deljo. They came out and diagnosed a leak in the system and injected a sealant. Ask any reputable HVAC repair person about this stuff. It's the lazy way to repair the system and it can cause more problems than it solved. Anyway, it didn't work, and we were out the cost of the visit and the sealant. We called someone else to look at it b/c we were desperate and it turned out that the sealant ended up clogging the A-coil, which in turn caused the compressor to burn out. Rather than waste my time with Deljo (b/c when I called they basically said too bad, but we'll come out and do more repairs for more money) I called Chicago Heating and Cooling 1 Corp (look them up on Yelp if you accidentally land on this page)

Thanks Deljo, you just cost me another $4500 to get it replaced by someone who actually knew what they were doing. I shudder to think whether I actually needed an entire new furnace when you replaced it 4 years ago.

I had a terrible experience with Deljo. I had my furnace inspected due to the winter season, but nothing was wrong - it just needed to be cleaned. A serviceman came out and examined the unit. He spent approximately 5 minutes at my home. He did not dis-assemble it, use any cloth or gadget to clean it. I did not even notice the use of a flashlight. He said the heat exchanger was cracked- and gave me an estimate for a new furnace- $2400. I was skeptical since he took 5 minutes to evaluate, clean, inspect and service a perfectly functional unit. Therefore, i called another company for a second opinion.
This technician spent 45 minutes dis-assembling and examining the furnace. He found no aforementioned crack. in fact, he stated that a crack in the exchanger is very serious- and any qualified technician would recommend that the furnace be disconnected and not used. The DelJo technician made no such recommendation-only to buy a new furnace. Was this an attempted scam? You be the judge.
