Rude, rude, rude!
After spending $333 to have them service our gas fireplace, the pilot light went out after only three days (it had been quite windy before; but not on the day it went out).
When we called their office to have the service techs come out again, the lady that answered the phone (who claimed to be one of the owners) basically (curtly and rudely) told us to deal with it ourselves; it wasn't their problem.
I will never deal with these people again; which is a shame, because the service techs themselves were so nice.
One true test of how good a company is revolves around how they treat issues like this, and unfortunately 'Day or Night' failed miserably in this aspect.
This could have been resolved by them so easily, but instead they lost a client forever.
UNPROFESSIONAL!!!! Do not even deserve the one star. We were doing a major $170k renovation and had an indoor/outdoor (exposed to screened porch) fireplace as our design. We worked with Chritina Richmond who was not friendly at all from the start. We shared our plans with her and informed her that we were looking for an indoor/outdoor fireplace . We were on a mission to find a fireplace so, we accepted her recommendations of getting a L1 two sided fireplace (confirmed via management over the phone that the fireplace would work for our project). Once delivered to the showroom, we picked up the fireplace and had our contractor install. And we definitely noticed a major flaw. The fireplace was completely exposed to the outdoors. Like a cracked opened window that was letting air come in all the time. This was definitely troubling to deal with during the middle of winter months when this fireplace was installed.
Upon looking at more details online about the fireplace, we found out that the model L1 fireplace is not intended for indoor /outdoor. And, can only be used for indoor or outdoor and not both. We contacted Valor to get confirmation and we were informed that L1 is not an indoor/outdoor fireplace.
So, we sent emails to Christina who kept insisting the fireplace does work for an indoor/outdoor space and that it can be used with an outdoor conversion kit.. When we provided proof that outdoor conversion kit does not allow indoor and outdoor functionality, she said in order for someone to come out and look it will cost us $333. And, she stated that any indoor /outdoor fireplace let's the air in. Which is definitely incorrect as confirmed by other resellers.
Via emall, we asked to speak with the manager and owner to which she said she bccd her manager and that we cannot proceed until we send installation picture. We forwarded an email from Valor as a proof stating that the L1 fireplace cannot be used for indoor/outdoor. And we asked to be contacted via management.
The next day, I followed up with a phone call, during which Christina was very rude and defensive. She stated she has forwarded my contact info to her manager and since she is not in the office she will get back to me. I asked her when she will be back in the office since we have our project schedule and want to resolve this as soon as possible and need to speak with someone since I cannot wait without knowing when we will be contacted back via management. She started to raise her voice and said that's all I can do and hung up on me.
I called and left a voicemail with accounting since she was not sharing the manager and owners names. In my experience dealing with any company in the past, I cannot believe such unprofessional and incompetent company exists. We will have to gut out our fireplace and replace with another and the labor cost along with the replacement associated with the whole issue could add up to thousands. We shall see how they resolve this (if they do) and I will update the review then.
After paying $300 to have a diagnosis and techicians allowing me to order what they diagnosed as a defective part, the company refuesed to install the supplied part. Owner called me a liar because she said her employees would never provide that info.
Had another company come in to install part. After looking at the unit, it only needed a cleaning. No part necessary. I should have read previous reviews. Looks like there is a theme.
Robert S.Waited 2 weeks for a technician to come out to measure my fireplace for a retrofit, probably a 10-15k job; paid $99 for this to boot.
Weeks went by, no quote. I called back, talked to the same lady I set the appointment up with, who clearly knew the business, yet even after the technician's visit and measurements, she proceeded to ask me the same questions as the first call.
At the end, I was told a quote would be coming. After waiting 2 more weeks and circa 1.5 months from the initial call, I cancelled the uncashed check and gave up.
The fireplace I was interested in, a Mendota, was supposedly top-of-the-line, but when I contacted Mendota's support about this situation, they never responded.
I'm glad I found out who I was dealing with before I spent any money on and with them.
Rob B.If it were possible to leave a ""0"" star rating, Day or Night would deservedly receive one. Not only were the two fireplace representatives extremely rude on the phone, but they simply hung up on me when I asked for an estimate on a fireplace and told them I could not do a $99 dollar site visit prior to doing so. Take your business elsewhere as I often find that the reception you receive on the phone is indicative of the type of service you will receive on any project. Apparently others agree that this company lacks even a modicum of professionalism when it comes to their sales personnel. I will certainly take my business elsewhere.
We had a wonderful experience with Day or Night in converting our woodburning fireplace to a gas insert. We had some issues to figure out as our opening had a brick arch and it took some creativity to get this to work. Elizabeth and Jerry were a real pleasure to work with, and we couldn't be happier. They were responsive and extremely helpful in finding solutions for us, and everyone who came to our house was professional and polite. It was great to have a company that took care of the permits and the gas and electric connections as part of the installation. All we had to do was sit back and begin enjoying our new gas fireplace. We couldn't be happier with the end results!
I contracted with Day or night to inspect and service my woodstove. I have been using this stove for 12 years to heat my house as the primary source of heat. After all of these years the stove was not providing the heat that it had initially in the early years. I went to their shop in August and they scheduled the inspection for September 17 per my request. Jerry came out and inspected the stove and explained what need to be done. they then ordered the parts and he came today, October 30 to service and install the new parts. Jerry and the staff at Day or Night were very professional and kept me informed of what was happening. Jerry also was pleasant to work with and completed the work in a totally acceptable manner. I will not hesitate to contact or recommend them to others who need work done.
These people came to install 2 fireplaces in my home. They unloaded them in my driveway and told me I had to carry them into the house for them. Then after charging me $200 to frame them in, they tried skipping out on that and I had to report them to their office in order to get them to do their job. The first time I turned the upstairs fireplace there was a loud POP noise, a flash of light and the flame went out. When I called them the next day I was told it is supposed to do that. After arguing with them I was told it would be 2 weeks before they could come and look at it. They had pinched an electrical wire bundle during installation which blew a fuse. I was told it would be 3 weeks to get a new one. When it came in I was told it would be 2 more weeks to come to my come to my house to install it. When they it, they turned it on and it did the EXACT SAME THING! Again, 5 more weeks, 3 to get a part and 2 to come install it. After the second repair, It never did work properly. I called the Mendota manufacturer who called Day or Night. They claimed they has been to my house 8 times and there was just no pleasing me. In truth, they had been there 4 times over a six month period and they never did get it working. Mendota backed them up and I had to pay another installer $180 to come and redo Day or Night's work! Their own employees told me how bad they were and that they were all looking for other jobs. These reviews do not even begin to tell how bad these people are. To yourself a solid and use someone else but not Bay Stoves in Edgewater. That is a whole other can of worms that's just as bad.
Liz is very professional, efficient and knowledgable. She went out of her way to help us choose a new wood stove insert while they were right in the middle of moving to their new location. She also worked diligently with the manufacturer to resolve an issue/request we had. I'd say, if anyone has had trouble dealing with this company, then they may not have been patient, understanding and respectful. We all expect good customer service these days, and common courtesy works both ways. Kudos to Liz for her excellent customer service.
We would never recommend anyone ever using this company. They are unprofessional and totally incompetent in their work. We had them install a gas fireplace and the job was a disaster from beginning to end. The upper mantle just recently came loose from wall and ceiling and fell off. The company owner, Liz Seaton never accepts responsibility for any mishaps and never even apologizes for their poor workmanship. This company should lose their license. We hope this will help others avoid being ripped off by such an incompetent company. They talk a good game but do not deliver.
