We stopped in to purchase and have installed a gas insert or gas log set for our masonry fireplace.
Right off the bat, they didn't know the difference between a Masonry and Pre-fab fireplace. The lady we were speaking with was condescending, wanted to talk over the people who are telling her what they wanted, and flat out ignorant when it comes to her profession.
We were told it was Illegal to install an insert and they would have to ""do a complete tear out"" of our existing fireplace to install an insert according to NFPA Law(NFPA isnt law). They would, however, hang a gas fireplace(It was an ugly one too) on the wall above our current fireplace.
Anything we wanted was ""Illegal"" according to them. They couldn't cite any laws nor did they have any way of pointing me into the right direction on said laws.
These people aren't experts at Fireplaces, Inserts, Sales/Customer Service, or the Law. We took our money and walked out.
The after service is the worst! We bought a mendota gas fireplace from them less than a year ago. The sales person convinced us that mendota is one of the best fireplace out there and we decided not to purchase their maintenance package at that time since the sales person clearly confirmed we will not have issues with our fireplace. Less than a year later, the fire in our fireplace kept turning off and when we called them up, the lady who answered the call did not even bother trying to troubleshoot the issue. She basically made it sound that it's too bad we didn't purchase the maintenance package from them and it'll cost us $260 for them to come and take a look. They don't care for customer service once they've gotten the money from you!
Scott C.We visited a few different dealers, but what sold us on Day or Night was the sales lady Pam Fleming. She was very knowledgeable and had a laid back sales attitude which we liked. Were they the cheapest? No 1 other place was a bit less $$, but they sure were not as knowledgeable; we asked on what type of paint to use inside the fireplace to pain the white bricks, and they said just use a normal every day black interior paint. Which is the wrong answer, as one wants to use a high temperature paint. And to be fair, we never asked Day or Night to match that price. Another benefit of Day or Night is that they work on Saturdays, were as many other places do not. The tech that came to our house for the measurements and install was Daniel. A fine representative of the company, as he def knew what he was doing and was very professional and courteous. We were the last customers on his list for the day and he still took his time in explaining the new gas fire log set to us. Overall from the sales experience to the install, we are very happy. If that changes, I will update my review, but as of Nov 12 2017, it is a 5 star experience, and glad we went with Day or Night.
I am an 80 year old woman who had previously bought a fireplace from this pathetic company. I was having problems getting it to start and called the company to ask if someone could come out and help me. The company flatly refused aside from wanting to charge me $300 for service call! The owner of the company is the most unprofessional I have EVER spoken to. She was actually screaming at me on the phone and calling me names. I would NEVER go back to this company EVER. After looking into this company, I found out why I had to wait MONTHS after I ordered my fireplace until having it installed. The company owes ALL of its vendors and does not have the money to pay for inventory! It's vendors will not release products to them because of their awful credit and delinquent bills! DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY!!!! It is only a matter of time before they go bankrupt!!
Stay away from these characters. Owner will bleed you financially dry, and not deliver with their service. We dealt with the female owner who is one of the rudest people you will ever deal with! Shortly after we bought the fireplace, the pilot light would not stay lit. The first service man came out, and took the fireplace apart. He informed us that Mendotta thermocouplers were defective; I called Day and Night and said if the thermocouplers were defective on their product, why should I cover the cost of the repair? The owner went into a tirade; Unbeknownst to me, she called the repairman, and told him to put the fireplace together and leave. When I asked him if it was fixed, he said no he was told to stop and leave. I told him to fix the fireplace, and called her back. Again we went another round, and she said I would pay. He said he fixed it and left.
The next morning around 8 am when my wife came down the stairs, she noticed a strong smell of gas. I immediately called her again; Again a tirade that I was just making it up, and there was no gas leak. I told her to send someone immediately, and I would not pay for the service call. She said unless I paid, they would not come. I called Mendotta manufacturer in Cedar Rapids, IA. They must have called her, and she had an associate call and say they would were sending someone. They did not send anyone until 4 pm; by then my wife had a headache from smell of gas. She had to spend most of the day upstairs to escape the fumes.
The man they sent was an older man who took the fireplace apart again. He spent over an hour working on the fireplace. He began putting it together again; I asked him, if he found a leak; he said yes there was. Said the first repair man, had not tightened a bolt, and it definitely was leaking at that place. I feel this woman, not only was horrible in her behavior and service, but that her negligence put us in danger.
I contacted this company last fall to service a gas fireplace. It ignites with a wall switch, but after a few seconds, the flames go out. You have to switch it on several times before it will stay lit. The technician who showed up cleaned the fireplace, repaired a broken log and taped a wire, but he did not fix the problem with it staying lit. He said he would go back to the office to ""look up a manual"" for the fireplace. I paid the bill of $284.00, but never heard from him again. I telephoned the office twice after that to see whether he ever researched the problem. On the second call, I was told that the technician who worked on my fireplace was actually the owner of the company. I explained that he had never gotten back to me one way or the other. A different technician who happened to be in the office that day answered my questions about safety if I continued to use the fireplace. However, no one has ever followed up about the primary problem that I still have with the fireplace. I guess Day or Night Plumbing & Heating was unwilling or unable to repair (or replace) the unit, but their lack of communication was very unprofessional.
I bought replacement glass from Day or Night, as they are an authorized dealer for Regency Woodstoves. I was unable to install it because the screws were immovable after five years, even by a machine shop. I asked Day or Night if they could help, and said I thought it should be covered under the warranty. My wood burning stove comes with a lifetime warranty, I understood that because impact caused the broken glass, it would not be covered and gladly paid $108 for a 9""X 16"" replacement. The fact that the screws were immovable seemed to me to be a design or workmanship flaw. Liz, the owner, emailed me to say that they would take care of it. When it was finished, they told me it would cost an additional $89. I asked about the warranty, and Liz said that she did not submit it for warranty payment because they ""typically pay about $30."" When I protested that she committed to taking care of it she became quite nasty, saying she had ""bent over backwards"" for me and refused to budge.
Kene O.This company sales a great product but the sales team is not very great and worse of its kind. If your looking at buying stoves, stay away from this place. The sales person who happens to be the owner is rude and lack professional etiquette and substandard service. Communication skilI is bad. She talks down on customers and don't give you what you want and yells at you if you insist. I feel bad for those who work for her, but she is dragging this place down with her attitude toward customers.
I am thrilled that this company is out of my life. Products are fine but communication skills and defensive attitude of owner leaves a lot to be desired. Not only did they hold $1700 of my money for 3 1/2 months without giving me a real delivery date after I phoned them on numerous occasions, but the owner blamed the issue on the manufacturer who I never dealt with or even had the phone number to call them. No one in the office knows what the other person is doing and the owner never seems to come into the office. The only way I resolved the issue was by reporting company to the Better Business Bureau. Products are fine and service people are not a problem but it is not worth dealing with company when one can purchase elsewhere and shop the price.
UPdate to my previous review: Won the case in small claims court against this company on the merits of the case. However, Mr. Seaton appealed and won his appeal on a technicality...that the statute of limitations on contracts had run out. Of course, the only way I could have discovered that he had effectively blocked the venting from my boiler before a new boiler was installed was to have been poisioned by carbon monoxide. Even the appeals judge seemed to feel that Mr. Seaton had simply lucked out and the judge wasn't happy about having to rule in his favor on the technicality.
This guy basically made a huge and dangerous mistake, putting my family in jeopardy and costing me about $4000 to recitify. And he didn't have the decency to take any responsibility for it. I had offered to simply have him SPLIT the cost, but he wouldn't do it. I doubt he even saved any money, since he ended up having to pay an attorney.
No way I'd trust my home or family's well-being to him again.
