David Gray started the business in 1983 in the back of a Plymouth Duster (the Duster was a vehicle, not a utility vehicle). Incoming phone calls initially were picked up by sales staff at his father-in-law's furniture store. The company developed to the point where an office with a crew was necessary.
The company is truly a family business. At different points, David's spouse, dad, in-law, sibling-in-law, son, daughter(s), and niece have all been employed to the business. David's child and brother-in-law are now active in managing the company with him and are joint owners.
The business has grown from that small car to more than thirty-five service teams and in excess of 70 staff members. David Gray established David Gray Plumbing, Inc. in 1980. The business has been providing superior service and maintenance in Jacksonville, FL continuously. The firm staffs the finest pipe specialists and qualified HVAC professionals in Jacksonville.

My hybrid water heater failed under warranty and a replacement was authorized by the manufacturer as long as I returned the defective unit to the place I purchased it, David Gray . I contacted them and they had an exact replacement in stock. I would just pay for installation. When they arrived I was told the install would cost $2,200. No new work was needed to install it. This was an exact match. It was draining the old one, cutting several PVC pipes, reconnecting, and filling it to test for leaks. Took less than an hour. They finally lowered the price to $1,500, still exorbitant for the work. I had no choice but to pay. I could only get the replacement from David Gray. They refused to deliver the replacement unless they installed it. David Gray took advantage of the situation to gouge me. I'll never use them again and no one else should. In their response to my written review, they asked I call their plumbing supervisor. She said that was a standard comment when they receive a complaint and she doesn't even know who writes the response. On a positive note, the technician on site was extremely professional and cordial.

They do an excellent job they're clean they very efficient. We've use them for many many years and we've been very happy with David Gray. Thank you.

We had a slab leak years ago and called David Gray for repair. They were responsive and fixed the leak at a very reasonalbe rate. Here we are a few years later and we have another slab leak in the same spot. The previous repair was just a patch, they never replaced the faulty pipe, just put a patch on it. What a shoody repair. I would expect this from a second rate plubing company not a so called reputable local company. Shame on David Gray plumbing. I have pictures of the pipe/patch and repair, check the photos. Just terrible. Even the company who just fixed said they hadn't seen this type of shoddy repair in 30 years.

I agree with the reviews about the pricing and labor estimates. I will start and say that I called and they were the within the hour It was one of the days that I had other things to do and the job of replacing the toilet flange wasn't going to happen. I was told it was going to take a few hours (the old toilet was completely removed and the area was cleared for him to cut off the top of the flange and chip away the inside of the flange. Took a little less than an hour and it was almost $500 for flange replacement and installing the new toilet to the flange. I wasn't home and i had my Dad oversee this task. The $75 service fee I thought was applied to the job, but per the technician, it was not. I can say that unless I'm in a pinch, I do not plan to use David Gray services as I feel ripped off by expectations set, and based on some of these reviews there is a similar trend in our customer experience. In all fairness, if you need someone they're quick and completed the job quickly I haven't had any issues since with the toilet rocking and I guess that is credited to their experience. However, they need to work on their pricing integrity.

I'd used David Gray since 1994 when I purchased my first home in Jax and immediately discovered it had to be re-piped as you could not have water being used more than one place in the house as a time. I was rinsing dishes to put in the dishwasher after dinner when someone flushed a toilet and suddenly there was no water in the kitchen. We'd planned to renovate that house so it was more practical to do while re-piping. David Gray personally cared and was wonderful to deal with. He took me to plumbing supply & tile stores. We've used the company in 3 homes and until last week always had good experiences. The washing machine apparently developed a clog and sent sudsy water down the hall on wood floors. The first technician they sent was Katia. She was very pleasant and used the back door as requested, but didn't have the proper tools to unclog the washing machine. She called the office to send someone else. If you call immediately request they NOT send Frank. He was a nightmare. He was asked to use the back door about 15' from the washer and dryer. Instead of doing that, he drug his snake tool dripping with nasty water all through our house to the front door. While unclogging the washing machine he somehow caused smelly, dirty water to come up the master shower drain and almost caused the master toilet to over flow. These are on the other end of the house from the laundry. We told him where the outside clean out was and instead of walking behind the bushes where there's a clear path, he walked on the plants breaking several of them. Worst of all he refused to wear the paper booties to cover his feet. So, if you want someone who drips dirty drain water all over your house, gets his dirty shoe prints everywhere and then trample & breaks your plants -- then Frank is your guy. It's amazing how one poor service tech can cause nearly 30 years of good service to be ruined. I talked to a manager who said some of the older guys have bad backs and bending to put the paper booties on & off hurts their backs. So, instead of apologies or offers of compensation for messing up out floors and plants -- management makes excuses. SHM ! It's very sad that someone has spent years building a reliable company on his name and uncaring techs can destroy that with one visit.

Highly recommended, but I am highly disappointed in the lack of response. In December they were recommended for a job to dig up a pipe with root invasion and replace it. 5 star, all the way around. Now 3 months later I have roots in another portion of the same pipe. THEY COULD NOT HAVE CHECKED. Drains backed up last Saturday and they came for a $495 clearing, and was supposed to come to estimate and set up the repair/replacement. NO SHOW!!! (I even called to confirm during the appointment time and was told, he will be on the way, you are the first appointment) and I missed 2.5 hours of work to meet. NO CALL, NO SHOW. No sorry we missed our first appointment and didn't call. I asked a manager to call me, Roger, Field manager. He said yes ma'am, as I told him the situation and said he would have an Install Manager call, Pat or Mark. It's the end of the week and no call. I guess I will call and beg them to respond. Everyone who as asked how this is going at my work and church are surprised at their performance. Guess they used to be much better.

We had a slab leak so we decided to re-plumb our house. David Gray was highly recommended. Their response was immediate. Sean and his entire crew did an outstanding job, went out of their way to do as little damage as possible to the walls etc. We had a few problems after the re-plumb. One was just a simple mistake, the other was a leak in our master bath shower that flooded the adjoining closet floor (which did not necessarily have anything to do with the re-plumb). When I called, again, the response was immediate. Rafael Negreiros came to the house and was able to repair both problems in a single day. He was outstanding. Not only was he professional, friendly but extremely knowledgeable. And the important part---he was able to repair the shower without damaging the shower tile or the closet wall. I give him an easy 10 stars! The next time I need a plumber, we will ask for Rafael by name.

Recently moved into a house in Jacksonville and called David Gray Plumbing due to just lukewarm hot water at almost all faucets in the house. They sent out a young guy who asked to see the hot water heater. Showed him the hot water heater which was new and had a David Gray sticker right on it. The plumber saw that it was a gas water heater and stated that they installed them but didn't service them. However that wasn't the problem. Took him into the master bath to witness the Luke warm hot water. He stated that he doubted that he could get the mixing valve out so he would need to change the entire valve thus destroying the tile - and by the way they don't do tile work. It would be over $500 for the valve. Then we showed him a toilet that wasn't flushing correctly. He looked into the bowl and saw some surface scratches and stated that the toilet looked like it had been snaked many times and that we should just get a new toilet for around $800. I told him we would think about it and get back to them. After paying him $69 he then left but not before trying to sell us on their """"service plan"""". A couple hours later I got a call from another guy at David Gray who was following up because the first guy told him we had some questions about their service plan. Long story short, I told him we did not have questions about their service plan but we had issues with their plumbing skills. He said that he was just the """"membership coordinator"""" and I told him I didn't need a membership coordinator, I needed a plumber! Then I called a real plumber who came out and discovered that the hot water recirc pump had been removed and whoever did the job just plumbed the returning cold line back into the hot line as it exited the hot water heater, resulting in warm water to the faucets in the house. He put a ball valve into the line to stop the cold water mixing back into the hot and problem solved. And the toilet issue - a new flapper! I will NEVER call David Gray again - for anything.

David Gray Plumbing is a disgusting rip-off. They claim to charge per job rather than per hour, which is the excuse for charging a $69 service fee to quote the job. We went ahead and had them come to quote our toilet replacement and the quote was over $500 to replace one toilet. That does not include the toilet, haul away of the old toilet, etc. Putting the toilet I already purchased over the existing whole in the floor was going to be $508! It's disgusting to take advantage of people with the thinking that since they're already paying so much for the service quote that they will allow themselves to be swindled. I wish I had read the reviews before calling David Gray Plumbing. For reference a quote from another licensed plumber was $160/toilet and I previously thought that was too high. Over $500....I'm in shock that they even suggest that amount. The only reason for two stars instead of one is because the actual plumber came same-day and was friendly/professional.

The service technicians, Michael and Jeremiah, did excellent work. They were professional and thorough. The problem came with the plumbing supply hose ($7.95 on Amazon), David Gray Plumbing charges $85 for an $8 part. The same for a $40 Moen cartridge, David Gray Plumbing charges $400. My mother is on a fixed income and even a call to Jessica at the home office only resulted in a $20 discount. These outrageous supply prices must pay for the major advertising. Beware of steep, outrageous prices for parts. Shame on you David Gray Plumbing!!!
