David Gray established the business in 1983 from the back of a Plymouth Duster sedan (the Duster was a vehicle, not a utility vehicle). First phone calls were answered by sales staff at his father-in-law’s furniture store. The company expanded to the point where an office with a crew was necessary.
The business is genuinely a family enterprise. At different points, David's wife, dad, in-law, sibling-in-law, child, offspring, and niece have all contributed to the company. David's child and brother-in-law are now involved in operating the firm with him and are joint owners.
The firm has expanded from that Plymouth Duster to more than thirty-five service crews and more than 70 staff members. David Gray established David Gray Plumbing, Inc. in 1980. The business has been providing top-notch service and maintenance in Jacksonville, FL ever since. The firm employs the top plumbers and licensed HVAC specialists in Jacksonville.

Avoid David Gray Plumbing! A $69 service call fee gets them in the door, but then, hold on to your shorts. They don't charge based on time, but based on some invisible and undisclosed fee chart. I was charged $150 to have a showerhead replaced (I supplied) and $300 to have P trap under a bathroom lav cleaned out. So, over $500 for 2 minor fixes taking under 30 minutes total. No talk of charges until after they were done. These people will take advantage of you, call someone else.

Called David Gray company on August 15th,2023 to fix a clogged kitchen sink. I was told the service call was $69. When I asked what would be the total cost for a standard snake job, was told that they don't have the pricing sheet in the office , the technician would let me know. When the technician arrived, he told me that the cost was a flat fee of $326.50 but I could get a """"$40 discount """". Now at that point, if you refuse the job, you'll be charged the service call of $69. I have a brain tumor and take anti seizure medication which makes it difficult to use good judgment under stressful situations. I didn't want to have to deal with this situation so I told the technician to go head and fix the drain. He was in and out in 20 minutes. Total cost for the quick fix $286.50!! This is price gouging and you should tell your customers up front about your pricing policy especially when they ask you over the phone before you send your technician! Shame on you David Gray!

called David Gray to install a single hole kitchen faucet since they installed the last one 12 years ago. They had the audacity to change $511 for the install that took them 30 minutes to install. They are price gouging their customers. Spoke to the office manager who wouldn't budge on the price. Stay away!

We just had a complete repipe this week, from meter to house, removing clogged galvanized and some of the bad poly piping, from a concrete block house built in the 60s. My plumbing was a mess. In reading the reviews here I'm a little surprised how many people mention the cost for an estimate; they told me right up front about that, it was not a secret and I could have gone with someone else if that was an issue. My initial call was for a leak that happened to be in a poly connector and I was given an appointment very quickly. The technician, Brad W, did the repair with full explanation of the problem with poly pipes. We were already planning to repipe and had done the research on cost. After talking with Brad we decided on doing the job now. Costs were explained thoroughly by Rafael, the sales advisor, before proceeding. I found the estimated price to be mid range compared to others, not the cheapest, not the most expensive estimate, but David Gray does pricing by the job and we knew with an older house this might be the best option. Moment of honesty folks - who thinks plumbing jobs are cheap, or easy/DIY? My particular job was done primarily by Kyle and Josh M. The company sends a picture of the technician for safety and I liked that also. I had a great experience with the crew. They explained how the job would be done and everything went as described. They were on time, work went as expected. They worked efficiently, answered all questions completely, worked clean every day and even did a few nice extras to make sure everything looked good as well as worked as expected. They took pictures throughout the job and attached to the final invoice. Unlike some of the other comments, i used David Gary plumbing a long time ago and was not unhappy, but also not overly impressed so I have used a lot of companies in the interim. My take is that this is no longer just a small plumbing company, you won't get the owner walking through Ace with you. The good part is they do more than plumbing. Everything is expensive now so you need to decide what is more important to you, comparison shop and find someone that fits your budget and standards. I highly recommend them if qualty workmanship is top of your list. Ask about their technicians' experience, training and certifications, that does make a difference and I think you might be surprised at the qualifications.

I had a dishwasher delivered and the installer refused to install it. I had to call a plumber to move the drain to make sure it worked. I called David Gray and was told that it could not be done. I asked them to at least replace the drain line as the former owner had done a rather slipshod job using cheap tubing. After they left, I found they did not replace the tubing and now a couple of weeks later, the dishwasher is leaking. I was charged an enormous amount. $550 for a simple 30 minute job. I wish I had done it myself. At least it would have been done correctly. I am disappointed and feel ripped off.

My hybrid water heater failed under warranty and a replacement was authorized by the manufacturer as long as I returned the defective unit to the place I purchased it, David Gray . I contacted them and they had an exact replacement in stock. I would just pay for installation. When they arrived I was told the install would cost $2,200. No new work was needed to install it. This was an exact match. It was draining the old one, cutting several PVC pipes, reconnecting, and filling it to test for leaks. Took less than an hour. They finally lowered the price to $1,500, still exorbitant for the work. I had no choice but to pay. I could only get the replacement from David Gray. They refused to deliver the replacement unless they installed it. David Gray took advantage of the situation to gouge me. I'll never use them again and no one else should. In their response to my written review, they asked I call their plumbing supervisor. She said that was a standard comment when they receive a complaint and she doesn't even know who writes the response. On a positive note, the technician on site was extremely professional and cordial.

They do an excellent job they're clean they very efficient. We've use them for many many years and we've been very happy with David Gray. Thank you.

We had a slab leak years ago and called David Gray for repair. They were responsive and fixed the leak at a very reasonalbe rate. Here we are a few years later and we have another slab leak in the same spot. The previous repair was just a patch, they never replaced the faulty pipe, just put a patch on it. What a shoody repair. I would expect this from a second rate plubing company not a so called reputable local company. Shame on David Gray plumbing. I have pictures of the pipe/patch and repair, check the photos. Just terrible. Even the company who just fixed said they hadn't seen this type of shoddy repair in 30 years.

I agree with the reviews about the pricing and labor estimates. I will start and say that I called and they were the within the hour It was one of the days that I had other things to do and the job of replacing the toilet flange wasn't going to happen. I was told it was going to take a few hours (the old toilet was completely removed and the area was cleared for him to cut off the top of the flange and chip away the inside of the flange. Took a little less than an hour and it was almost $500 for flange replacement and installing the new toilet to the flange. I wasn't home and i had my Dad oversee this task. The $75 service fee I thought was applied to the job, but per the technician, it was not. I can say that unless I'm in a pinch, I do not plan to use David Gray services as I feel ripped off by expectations set, and based on some of these reviews there is a similar trend in our customer experience. In all fairness, if you need someone they're quick and completed the job quickly I haven't had any issues since with the toilet rocking and I guess that is credited to their experience. However, they need to work on their pricing integrity.

I'd used David Gray since 1994 when I purchased my first home in Jax and immediately discovered it had to be re-piped as you could not have water being used more than one place in the house as a time. I was rinsing dishes to put in the dishwasher after dinner when someone flushed a toilet and suddenly there was no water in the kitchen. We'd planned to renovate that house so it was more practical to do while re-piping. David Gray personally cared and was wonderful to deal with. He took me to plumbing supply & tile stores. We've used the company in 3 homes and until last week always had good experiences. The washing machine apparently developed a clog and sent sudsy water down the hall on wood floors. The first technician they sent was Katia. She was very pleasant and used the back door as requested, but didn't have the proper tools to unclog the washing machine. She called the office to send someone else. If you call immediately request they NOT send Frank. He was a nightmare. He was asked to use the back door about 15' from the washer and dryer. Instead of doing that, he drug his snake tool dripping with nasty water all through our house to the front door. While unclogging the washing machine he somehow caused smelly, dirty water to come up the master shower drain and almost caused the master toilet to over flow. These are on the other end of the house from the laundry. We told him where the outside clean out was and instead of walking behind the bushes where there's a clear path, he walked on the plants breaking several of them. Worst of all he refused to wear the paper booties to cover his feet. So, if you want someone who drips dirty drain water all over your house, gets his dirty shoe prints everywhere and then trample & breaks your plants -- then Frank is your guy. It's amazing how one poor service tech can cause nearly 30 years of good service to be ruined. I talked to a manager who said some of the older guys have bad backs and bending to put the paper booties on & off hurts their backs. So, instead of apologies or offers of compensation for messing up out floors and plants -- management makes excuses. SHM ! It's very sad that someone has spent years building a reliable company on his name and uncaring techs can destroy that with one visit.
