David Gray established the firm in 1983 from the back of a Plymouth Duster sedan (the Duster was a car, not a van). First phone calls initially were picked up by sales staff at his father-in-law’s furniture store. The business grew to the point where a dedicated office with a crew was needed.
The firm is authentically a family business. At some point, David's wife, father, father-in-law, brother, son, offspring, and niece have all been employed to the business. David's child and brother-in-law are currently engaged in managing the business with him and are joint owners.
The business has grown from that small car to more than thirty-five service crews and more than 70 team members. David Gray founded David Gray Plumbing, Inc. in 1980. The company has been delivering excellent service and plumbing in Jacksonville, FL ever since. The firm hires the best pipe specialists and certified HVAC specialists in Jacksonville.

The service guy was great. No issues there. Fixed the problem as far as I can tell for now. I had a cracked PVC pipe near my water main. Confused as to to why I was charged $305 for a job that took 45 minutes from start to finish ( I timed it) and 15 minutes of that was waiting for the PVC glue to dry?! I suppose I should have asked questions but the guy was a fast talker and I was already $50 invested in it for the service call. The bill had no break down of hourly rate nor cost of parts. He replaced about 7-9"""" of 3/4"""" PVC pipe and a 90 degree elbow. I would say $20 parts cost at MAX. So basically I was charged $400 an hour - Price gouging?

Always helpful I appreciate the professionalism & quality work .their always on time .. no long waiting when you need service

This review is based on their business practice. First off, they charge $49 service fee for any visit regardless if work is completed. Their process is that the review the work that you want done and then provide you with a quote. You then either accept the price or not. We were quoted $787 to install a sink and hook up to existing plumbing and to repair a faucet valve on the shower. During the repair, the technician wasn't able to repair the shower faucet due to a part he needed. He said he'd come back once he had the part. Because we paid for the services based on the quote, I didn't think I'd be charged when he came back out. I was wrong. They charged me another $300 to fix the shower!! I called the main office to let them know that I already paid the first time and they pretty much said if I want the work completed, then that was the charge. This is such an unethical way to run a business. I would stay away and find a company who won't rip you off.

We called out David Gray Plumbing to fix a leaking water pipe in our yard. For context, the pipe had already been fixed, but not properly, and was seeping water at the seam of the fix. The pipe was easy to access as we had fortunately left it exposed to check the repair. This was a quick and easy job for a plumber, and would cost them next to nothing in supplies and maybe half an hour of labor. They did come out the next day, which was good. Diagnostics took about a minute because we had told them on the phone what and where the problem was and the pipe was already exposed. But then they told us they would charge us $311 to fix the leak. We refused their service, astonished at such an extortionate price, although we still had to pay the $49 call out fee of course. Not sure if this firm overcharges on all jobs or just the small jobs. Maybe they thought we would pay no matter what because we wouldn't want to waste the call out fee. Sorry, but we weren't impressed, and we won't call this company again.

I am going to preface this with the fact that I am a person who generally does all of their own repairs in the house. When I had an electrical issue arise which I wasn't able to resolve I was forced to call a pro. The David Gray electrician was able to track the issue to a burned out wire inside of my garage wall. There is NO way I would have been able to locate this issue but he was able to use his knowledge of wiring to back track the issue and fix it. He was very professional and the price came in under what I expected. I'd say I'll use them again but hopefully that will never need to happen.

Approximately once a year I need to have the plumbing snaked out from the roof of my one story home. The cleanout on the side of the home has a one way trap which prevents the use of larger snake heads. I have used David Gray to do this over the last 10 years because their prices were fair and reasonable. I called them in December of 2020 to snake from the roof. They dispatched Trey Cassidy. I explained what I needed him to do, he looked at the problem (backup in one shower and toilet) and said he would be right back with an estimate. When he retuned from the truck he said """"We can remove the toilet for $250, if there is a problem doing that it will be $350. Then if that doesn't fix it we can snake from the roof for $450 and if there is a problem it would be $650."""" I responded by saying """"There is no reason to pull the toilet, I just want it snaked out from the roof. I have never paid that much, nor will I ever pay that much."""" He said ok, started typing on his pad thing, had me sign it, and left. I received the bill ($49) for the estimate, however it simply stated """"Upon arrival found master bath stopped up. Gave customer options to snake out drain customer refused services for today."""" Nothing about what the 'estimate' price was... I called Terry Vereen Plumbing, they came out the next day, snaked from the roof like I asked, problem solved. The charged me $139 and earned my future business. I should also mention I called David Gray prior to calling Terry Vereen and left a message describing my issue on a supervisors voicemail. I never received a callback.

I only gave 1 Star because there is nothing lower. Just as there is nothing lower than this rip-off company. Do business with them at your own peril. I used them for over 10 years for a rental property of mine. They keep a CC on file for me. July 2020 they replaced a water heater and emailed me the invoice for over 1400. I cut checks to vendors in 30 days. They banged my card 10 days after emailing me the invoice with no phone call to see if they could run the card or see if I might like to have used a different card. Unacceptable to me. Lots of great plumbers in Jax. Who needs these a$$ clowns.

I used to swear by this company and used them exclusively. Their pricing schemes have changed to the point that I will never use their services again. $50 merely to come out. $100 to cut into a wall leaving the additional repair work for the customer to handle?! THEN they'll charge for labor and parts on top of that! Thanks, but I'm looking elsewhere.

We had an appointment on Thursday between 1 PM and 5 PM and no one showed up. I called the office at 5:30 to find out why the technician did not show up they told me they would have to get back to me. I waited for a phone call and didn't hear back. They called me the next day and told me that I never made an appointment and neither did my landlord. That was a lie. So she told me they could send somebody out on Saturday And I requested for them to come on Saturday morning because I had plans and I've already had to cancel other plans. So she put in the computer to please make sure that we are requested to come in the morning which did not happen. It is now 4:30 in the afternoon and still no show. This is not the way to do business or treat your customers. They texted me at 2:20 PM and said that a technician was on the way it is now 430 and no technician. I do not live two hours from Jacksonville. I'm not sure where the technician is or why he's not here but this is ridiculous. I have wasted my entire day off waiting around yet again for him to show.

I asked them to come out to give me an estimate. The contractor came out and told me I had galvanized pipes, I already knew that, that is why I wanted them to come out. No discussion on fees when I made the appointment by phone. Got a bill in for 235.00, I refused to pay and they sent me to collections. I called a friend for recommendations of a plumber, I called that plumber and he came out in a David Gray trick and gave me an estimate with another plumbing company's name.
