Truly a commendable operation that Leon and the rest of the gracious staff run here. I've used their services a few times already and they do a great job in both explaining the reasoning behind the issues and how to prevent future clogging, etc from occurring again. I had these new tankless heaters installed at our home. One heater had a fault code and stopped working I contacted By the book plumbing. Leon came out right away and corrected the problem. The company ordered a new part for the heater and came back and replaced the defective part free of cost. Outstanding customer service and installation of these 2 units. My place had an emergency with a pipe leak due to old valves and luckily Leon was able to come to my place right away and fix the water line and stopped the water from continuing to pour into my home. He replaced all of my valves to help prevent it from happening again. He also did some work on my water heater to have the installation up to the latest requirements.

Late on a week night, our bathtub handle broke causing water to flow out uncontrollably. Leon came out and gave me a few options, the first being the best option if it were possible. It ended up working and saved me $$$ and him from another trip. Leon was honest, reliable, and got the job done right and in a timely fashion. He showed up at 9:15pm and I was all fixed up by 10:15. I had a very disappointing experience with this company. I had a slab leak and called By the Book to get a leak detection done. I made it clear that leak detection was the only service I needed from them that day, as I was going to weigh my options for plumbing. Leon came out and immediately was very condescending right off the bat. I get it, I'm a girl, I look young, but assuming I'm dumb is a bold move. I ask for leak detection, and Leon is already giving me the go around about why he can't do that. He tried telling me I don't have any water damage, even though I felt warm spots underneath our entire kitchen (meaning water was leaking and spreading under the vinyl). If I listened to Leon, we would have severe mold damage under our floors. I also knew there was water flowing in our bathroom and Leon said he didn't hear anything and implied I was just making up the noise. After not doing what I requested and instead doing a walk through of our whole house, Leon said he would be back in 5-10 minutes. He came back a full HOUR later! I had no idea what he was doing as I thought he was maybe preparing his leak detection equipment. Instead, he was ignoring my request and coming up with 10 different plumbing options to repipe the entire house. I was annoyed because all I wanted was a leak detection and Leon was refusing to do that. I quickly told him I wanted him to leave and he got visibly upset and threw a tantrum! I've never seen a ""professional"" old man do this. He told me I wasted his time, which I quickly reminded him that I never asked him to sit in his car for an hour. After throwing a fit, Leon finally left and I still had no leak detection done.

I called a different company, Mastercraft, and they came out, detected my leak, and showed me that I had bad water damage under the floors. They were very kind the entire time during the water remediation process and told me how to do everything through my insurance. I then called California Repipe and Plumbing to take a look at the leak and they had a very quick response time. They were extremely patient explaining the entire process to me and gave me very reasonable prices. It was clear they were not trying to take advantage of me and were there solely to help me.

By the Book Plumbing clearly does not train on customer service and they leech off people who are desperate for fixes. Be smart and do NOT hire this company! They will take advantage of you and be condescending the entire time.

We had a minor leak affecting our downstairs neighbor under our toilet and things were escalating.These guys were the only ones available for same day emergency service and we were almost shocked they could help us.

From the initial phone call to the owner coming himself to help us, everything was extremely professional and courteous. Prices were also very reasonable. Will definitely need to schedule another service with them when it comes time to replace our water heater.
