Bonfe Plumbing, Heating & Air Service
Company Overview
For over three decades, Bonfe has offered trustworthy home repair services to homeowners in the Twin Cities region. Our services range from heating and air conditioning to plumbing, electrical, and appliance repairs, and you can count on our knowledgeable technicians to handle the task efficiently.
In 1993, Bonfe launched as a one-man plumbing operation. Through dedication, hard work, and the loyalty of our customers, the owner expanded services to include heating and air conditioning. In a move to improve service, Bonfe expanded to include electrical, drain cleaning, and appliance repair.
I became part of the Bonfe team in 2006, although I have known the Bonfe family since 1981. I have witnessed this company evolve from a one-man operation to a thriving business with over 100 employees, soon relocating to a new 40,000 square foot facility. Our company and its owners are dedicated to ensuring a remarkable experience at a competitive price. Our extensive base of repeat clients demonstrates that our focus on detail is valued and that our rates are competitive in the market.

Extremely poor customer service and unreasonably high prices. They demand a 12-hour window for service but fail to show up or communicate effectively, rescheduling at will as if your time doesn't matter. It takes weeks just to get an appointment, only for them to change it. Even on the rescheduled date, they miss agreed-upon times, don't follow up with updates, and can't commit to a reasonable service window. Then, they ask you to accept this treatment because others are ""waiting months"" to get service. It's clear they value neither your time nor your business.
The entire experience screams of a company that's grown too comfortable charging premium rates while delivering rock-bottom service. Avoid them unless you enjoy being ignored, overcharged, and treated like an afterthought.
Aaron S.BEWARE This place is trying to rip you off. I had a bit of a plumbing emergency recently. Bonfe was the only place with any availability last minute. So we went with them instead of our regular.
They snaked the main drain for 99$ so far so good. Same price as my usual. But I noticed the first problem when they charge over 200 for another section of the drain that my regular has also done for 99$ so I thought that was a bit much. But whatever
Then they send a camera down and take a look. Definitely needs some roots cleared out. The tech says the cleaning would cost $2,000 BUT that would likely not work so I should have them dig in from the outside and clean from a new access point. Just $5000!
Then they send the estimate and it's for a third option spot repair the pipe for over $7,000!
So of course I want to get a second opinion on this as it's a first for me. So I ask for the video that was taken while the tech was in. They want $250 for the video. Clearly they are trying to hide something. Just gross.
Use as a last resort only would be my recommendation.
I've had a lot of service folks come in to my home over the years, and I've never had anyone in my house that I've wanted OUT as quickly as this particular Bonfe technician.
He lost all credibility with me right from the get go when he started talking about his sister's dog, and quite frankly, that rabbit hole he went down while standing in the entryway of my home for the first 10 minutes was just so unbelievable, that I was questioning A LOT of things at that time.
I had to finally interject that it was time for me to show him to the sewer drain pipe, which was the reason he was there, afterall. I had no issues whatsoever with the drain; we're selling the house, and cleaning the drain pipe was at the request of the buyer. No problem.
The technician indicated that the pipe was fine (no cracks, leaks, tree roots, blockages, etc.) but the pricetag to clean it would be $2,500. WHAT?! For a simple drain cleaning?! No way!
He went out to his van and spent some time ""negotiating"" a better deal with management, and came back with the low, bargain basement revised cost of $2,000. Unbelievable.
What disgusted me most, is that he would not LISTEN to me. He cut me off multiple times, continually talked over me, and was GOING to TELL me why I needed this. He stood too close for comfort, poised in a borderline intimidating stance with zero regard for personal space.
Absolutely not.
Ron the Sewer Rat came out the following day, and cleaned the drain for $380.
Bonfe, your price gouging is DISGUSTING and please train your technicians on basic human interaction skills. Disappointed in you all.
I called to get my main line cleaned they told me to give them 200 non refundable dollars I asked if it would be applied to the bill they said no it would cost additional 600 so the bill would be 800 I called roto r out they came in a half hour at 9 pm because alto never showed up and did it for under 500 I guess if you got money to throw around call bonfe
I was quoted close to $6,000 for some simple pipe repairs while another plumber cost only $375. Avoid Bonfe and Benjamin Plumbers they are both rip off artists.
You can absolutely find better service. After they told me to have someone home for 13 hours because they can't give you any idea what time they'd arrive, which is already ridiculous. But then they never showed & have since ignored me. Even though I paid for their yearly service membership. Huge mistake. Go find someone that values your business & respects your time.
Diana R.I contacted the company because I had the same issue when your plumber left my home as when he arrived. I tried to explain to him what had been done in the past to remedy the situation, but he was not interested, in fact, he said he wouldn't do it. He did run the snake into the kitchen drain on both sides. Tried to sell me a maintenance package, told me to get enzymes for the drain, and charged me $189 for it. I sent a video back to Bonfe as well as a photo haven't heard back. I should be refunded my $189
Wish I would've come on Yelp before calling these rip-off artists. I would never have called after reading about all these experiences that I ended going through. I called them because I had a backed up drain in my laundry room and saw they had a $99 main line drain clean-out so thought I'd give them a shot. Adam, the technician, showed up, albeit on-time (that ended up being the only good thing about the whole experience) and said that he'd then have to snake the line through the basement bathroom toilet drain if there wasn't a main line clean-out. He told me it would be $800 to pull the toilet! ( I would say a normal plumber could pull 10 (TEN!) toilets for the price he wanted to charge for ONE) Told him I'm not paying it and i'll pull it for him. He told me he'd wait for 5 minutes if I could get it done. I pulled it out and he brought in his equipment. He was unable to get further than 10 feet outside of the house before the auger stopped and he wasn't able to do anything further. He then marked the spot out side where the main drain pipe was supposedly either broken or frozen and told me they'd have to excavate the area around the pipe, find the break, and put in a replacement section of pipe. They would charge $6500 for this! Told him no and paid him the $99 for the fee to come out and attempt to do the cleanout.
I then called a guy who did steam jetting and he got the mainline thawed out and working within 40 minutes. Drain and mainline are working perfectly now.
Calling Bonfe was a terrible waste of time and money!
Joe F.We had Bonfe come out to evaluate for electrical hookup of a hot tub. It was fairly easy to schedule but they do not give a time frame of when they will show up which has been a problem when we have used in the past.
When the person arrived they told us that they could not do the hookup unless cleared by an electrical inspector due to nearby power lines. Unlike any other service I have ever had, they did not offer to contact the inspector to do this and told us we needed to call and have them come out. We set up time with an inspector, missing more work. When he came, he told us ""I'm not sure why they had you make this appointment, usually they just call us."" The inspector then gave us inaccurate information and then envetually told us he actually had no jurisdiction over any of this.
The price that Bonfe did quote us was astronomical. We ultimately called a competitor who came out, stated they could do it no problem and quoted us 20% of the price Bonfe had quoted us.
INSANELY bad experience. Needed 2 ductless mini splits for cooling and heating 2 rooms upstairs, and the service people told us no problem, that we'd love them. The installation was so sloppy. Took a while to repair the installation, only to find out this week that THE HEATER DOESN'T WORK IF IT'S LESS THAN 5 DEGREES OUTSIDE? The person who came to ""fix"" it today told us this like it was common knowledge, but we were never told this by anyone, ever. Incredibly deceptive. We feel so cheated. We bought both mini splits (a $15,000+ investment) so we could use our upstairs for bedrooms. This is no longer possible. We will be pursuing action but wanted to warn folks considering using this service not to.
