My 75 gal tank was near the end of its life. I decided to call out a half dozen different local plumbing companies to bid the job to either replace the 75gal unit, or to retrofit in a tankless unit.

Black Mountain Plumbing were BY FAR the most expensive AND they charged me $39 for the honor of coming out...the only company of all of them who deemed it reasonable to charge for making a bid :/

$4,200 bid for a straight forward tank replacement...nothing complicated, just sticking in a new, contractor grade, 75 gal unit. Over $1,000 above most other bids.

$9,000 for a retrofit to a Rinnai RUR199IN. Close to DOUBLE what most other plumbers have quoted me. Yikes!

Also, $286/hr for diagnosing any other plumbing issues in the house.

I guess they figured I wasn't going to do my homework.

I called Black Mountain to identify the source of discolored water coming from my hot water faucets. They quickly deduced that my 16 year-old hot water heater needed replacing. Because it was under a home warranty, they advised that I contact my warranty company to do the replacement, and charged me only $39 for coming out to make the assessment. Black Mountain was so generous with their time and assistance helping me battle the warranty company (the warranty company insisted that their contracted plumber confirm the leak and he would not, so they asked for a full report from Black Mountain in order to authorize yet a third plumber to come take a look). When I finally decided that I would rather pay Black Mountain to do the replacement then use the questionable plumber that the warranty company was requiring, they got me on the schedule quickly, did an efficient job with the water heater replacement and left the garage spotless. They really went above and beyond for me and were so patient as I worked with my warranty company.

Called a few places and they had the soonest availability to come look at a leak. I had gotten it looked at by another plumber and their thought was it was the shower pan and wanted to basically demo my bathroom. I wanted to get a 2nd opinion so I called Black Mountain Plumbing, their plumber gave me the hourly rate for leak detection and went to work. He was clean, thoughrough, and found the problem was unsealed shower handle and cracked grout that needed repair and resealing. Can't speak to whether their hourly rate is high but only got charged for 1 hour and it saved me a bathroom remodeling/demo. Worth every penny.

Recently we were told that an audit had indicated that our water pressure was too high, so I asked Black Mountain to come by. The service person arrived on time and was very competent and thorough; he told me that our water pressure was actually perfect, so he just charged a nominal fee for the service call. He also told us that we should get the people who audited to pay for it. Very positive experience!

I have to start by saying that I did not actually get work done by them. But they were the sixth plumber I called this morning, none of whom had any availability today, and the only one to, unprompted, offer suggestions of other plumbers I might call in my area who might be available. That comes across as very professional and more interested in customer service than getting paid.

I was referred to Black Mountain Plumbing by a friend. I don't believe I've ever had a better referral. Scott went above and beyond any ordinary house call. He took videos of the problem area, and clearly and plainly explained our rights and the legal requirements related to our kitchen sink plumbing connection. He quickly and easily described three options, and provided a written estimate with costs related to each of the three options, in an expeditious manner. He was the consummate professional. I will use them again without question.

They saved the holidays for me. Truly.

Usually plumbers get a bad rap because of over charging, etc - but our tech today, Adam, was just an honest good guy.

We were worried about our washer/dryer hoses/valves and got a quote over the phone.

It would be a four hour window when someone would show up. Adam was cool and gave us a call when he was 30 min away.

He was considerate about entering and even put on booties.

He took a look at our issue and said the job would be more as it would involve cutting away some material to make way for new material.

It's the holidays. I'm saving money for Christmas and family. I can't afford more fixes at the moment.

Adam never tried to upsell me. Or pressure me. Or scare me about 'possibility of this and that'. He simply understood my situation and said he wanted to check the water pressure to make sure all was fine since i didn't want to deal with laundry valves. He also helped tighten a faucet without me even asking.

He only charged me $39 for the visit. And that can go towards the future repair. He'll email us a more detailed estimate.

So yeah. There are good people out there when you least expect it.

Black Mountain Plumbing are the BEST plumbers in San Diego! Call center person was quick to get me into the schedule same day knowing the urgency with no fuss, easy to talk with, and fast. The field supervisor Robert was assigned to my call and I'm so glad, you couldn't find someone smarter than him, he really knows his trade and then some.
