STAY AWAY from BISHOP PLUMBING! I have a Tramco sump pump and backup pump with 2 deep water marine batteries. These batteries are not maintenance free and so I check them every 3 to 4 months and add distilled water as needed. Last week when I went down to check I noticed the battery leaking. I called Bishop and they sent a plumber named Brad to the house and took a look at the batteries. He confirmed the batteries needed to be replaced and quoted me a price of $665.00 each. He then suggested I let him do a diagnostic test for $389.00 on the "" brains of the system because there is a screw setting that could come loose and that would cause the system to over amp the batteries"" The test amounted to opening up a metal box and looking inside for the screw setting. I told him the price seemed excessive as he confirmed it would only take him 10 to 15 minutes to perform but he said if I didn't do it, I risk having the new $1300.00 batteries over amped and ruined.. Brad went down to perform the test and 15 mins later said to me "" good news, your system is not over charging the batteries, I called Tramco and they told me that the system I had was a next generation and did not have the screw setting, it automatically maintains the proper charge"" Brad told me he was done and wanted me to pay the bill. I told him I'm not going to pay for a diagnostic test that wasn't needed and couldn't be performed. After arguing with me I told him to get his manager on the phone. The manager told me the test wasn't completed and wanted Brad to test the batteries to see if they were charging. I told him one was leaking and they were 4 yrs old and needed to be replaced anyways and there was no need to test them.I told him I'm done with Brad and I will pay the $79.00 trip charge but nothing else. He then tried more scare tactics but in the end I told him I wanted his plumber out of my house and he agreed to take the $79.00 trip charge. I then went on the computer to find replacement batteries. I was able to find the exact 195 amp deep water marine batteries made by US Battery at the Battery Giant store in Gurnee for $ 103.46 each!
Moral of the story, STAY AWAY FROM BISHOP PLUMBING. Nothing but scam artists.

We found Bishop Plumbing to be dishonest and extremely expensive. They wanted $10,000 to fix a broken pipe. The second day on the job, they claimed that they would have to replace an entire pipe that ran underneath the driveway. The driveway would have to be ripped up in order to do this. They wanted an additional $20,000.

While Bishop Plumbing was doing work on day 1, they broke a pipe. We hired a different plumber who fixed everything for $4,000, including the pipe Bishop Plumbing broke. There was no need to replace the pipe underneath the driveway. It was unnecessary work.

Find a different plumber.

Yelp, why are you filtering 603 predominately negative reviews(!!!) of this company?? I would give zero if I could. STAY AWAY! THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF. I called under duress, and basically, they rodded the kitchen sink for about $900 dollars. The guy was all packed up to leave, and determined the problem was still there. He was also on the cell phone a lot, so I'm not sure how much experience he really had.
If your fortunate enough not to care about money, have at it, but for those who work for a living, find another plumber in an emergency.

Some of my worst experiences have been with plumbers and getting screwed on pricing for emergency jobs. This experience with Bishop has topped the list of over priced service and being ripped off. The fact is that this was a commercial job to jet our a sewer line. I should have thrown them out when he gave me a price of 865 per hour. The kicker was I never heard him say two hour minimum. I had waited for several days and needed the problem to be fixed so I made the mistake of giving them the go ahead. The problem could not be fixed with jetting and Bishop wanted an additional 2200 to complete the work. Bishop may be adequate plumbers but there are better and more reasonable plumbers to call. Also stay away from those 24 hour yellow page plumbers...just FYI.

I had to give them 1 star....I wouldn't give them that if I had the option!!

I can't agree more with the other NEGATIVE reviews I've read about BISHOP PLUMBING. I called them to check my hot water heater as the water wasn't hot...just lukewarm. All I got for $79.95 was a series of quotes: $343.50 to do a ""minor diagnostic""...any parts needed would be an EXTRA charge; if it was the shower valve, it would cost $530.90; if the water heater needed to be replaced, the cost would be $1732.25; to remove the old and bring in a new water heater would cost $240.00; replacing the upper and lower elements would cost $945.50!!!

All quotes had these mysterious code numbers and letters. I had the salesman (he said he was a licensed plumber) leave as I told him his prices were way too high. Yes, the ""plumber"" was neat and clean and the trucks are clean and look very professional, but this company is a RIPOFF. BEWARE....

I called another plumber, he was here within an hour, he did a COMPLETE diagnostic and determined that NOTHING WAS WRONG, it just needed to be set at a higher temperature. He checked both elements and thermostats. The TOTAL cost (INCLUDING the complete diagnostic) was $89.00 and he accepted a $25 coupon (from the phone book) for a final cost of $64.00!!! This plumber told me to replace an element would run $125.00 and the second element would be less. Call someone else other than Bishop. I called HERITAGE PLUMBING CO in Hoffman Estates and HIGHLY recommend them.

I wrote a letter to Bishop to complain about the $79.95 fee to provide estimates and I was told they would not make any adjustment. In fact, the lady was argumentative to boot when she did call in response to my letter of complaint.

There are many other reputable and honest plumbers trying to make an honest living. AVOID Bishop Plumbing....

3/14/13--PEOPLE ARE FINDING my review FUNNY...it was not meant to be funny, frankly, I think it's very SAD that a ""reputable"" (?) plumbing company would pull such tactics and charge such outrageous prices....BUYER BEWARE!!

Friendly plumbers. Fixed everything fairly quickly. Price was steep, but everything was well fixed.

Do not use Bishop Plumbing Company! Totally scammed. Excessively high pricing for services, no guarantee that problem will be corrected. I foolishly spent $594 for kitchen sink rodding assuming the problem would be corrected. After 40 minutes, the technician closed up shop, said he hadn't fixed the issue and wanted another $594 to rod pipes in crawl space. I said no, and called another plumber who rodded both main level and crawl space for $200 and got things working again. So basically, this company is charging about $1,200+ an hour, for a job that someone else did for $200. I've been had. Don't let it happen to you! Why was I had? I did not ask enough questions up front, I did not think to dispute bill prior to crossing all the t's and dotting the I's. I guess the technician's intimidation tactics worked. In two words: Buyer Beware.
