Chris and Trey were friendly and courteous gentlemen, they were a little bit late coming from a previous job but that was not a problem for us since they were in contact and anyway who can predict the exact timing of a job like moving? They communicated well with each other and unpacked a very full 8'X8' Pod in just over 2 hours including a bedroom set and other furniture. For the most part everything was treated gently and moved efficiently, they navigated the narrow stairway up to the apartment very well.

There must have been some internal miscommunication in that the order specified large items including a queen size bed, mattress, and box spring, as well as a large dresser. Unfortunately they weren't aware of those large items ahead of time and could have prepared better with additional equipment. Regardless they were able to get the items upstairs (hopefully not at too much soreness for them) with some minor damage, but due to the damage did not charge the heavy item fee, which seemed fair to us. Trey even offered to fix the legs that came off (after 9pm!) but we have a woodworker friend in the area and didn't want to keep these kind men out any later than necessary.

5/5 stars for Trey and Chris themselves, they did great work. However, deducting one star overall for that miscommunication, we can't blame them for not being aware of the large items, but it did result in damage which could have been avoided.

DO NOT HIRE!!!!!! I hired this company based on the good reviews and good ratings but my experience was the complete opposite. I arranged for them to be at the pick up location at 2pm it is 6:30pm and they still have not shown up. They have not tried to contact me all day. I've been the one calling them. I've been calling for an update every hour to check on an ETA and the mover that picked up the phone was extremely rude and disrespectful. Started yielding at me on the phone because I've been calling to check when will they arrive. I will never refer this company and if you want professionals to handle your belongings DO NOT CALL THEM! I've never written a negative review for anything but the unprofessionalism I've experienced will not be tolerated.

Derek, Chris, and Trey did an amazing job loading up my truck. No damage, stuff was packed tight and well, and they moved fast! They were also so personable and pleasant to work with. Can't say enough good things. Derek and Chris even come over the day before when I called asking for last minute packing help. Would hire this crew again in a second.

I have used Big Guy three times this year. The first time we emptied a bedroom and things out of the garage into a U-Haul, which Derek drove to my storage unit, and he and Freeman unloaded. Before they left my house, though, they swept out my garage! Along the way, they moved things from the garage to the basement for me, as well. Derek and Freeman were concerned that I got what I needed done, that it was done right, and that they left me with neat spaces to work in.

The second time I used them, Derek and Freeman came back to move some building supplies from the garage into the house for me. I wanted the space ready for when my builders showed up to work. They opened the pallets and boxes and carried all of the components of my shower into the emptied room, even helping me to make sure all of the parts on the list were there. Again, they bagged up the trash and swept out the garage for me.

The third time, Derek and Chris came to unpack and assemble my new adjustable beds, after removing the old one. Not being able to get under that bed for many years, I had a lot of vacuuming to do, and Chris helped me clean while Derek was in the garage unpacking. We had instructions to follow, and things were not always clear, but Derek was patient and listened to suggestions I had - which not all men will do!

I will have them back soon to help when the new mattresses arrive, and again after my contractor is finally done with the work in our house and Derek and his partner of the day can finally move me back in to that room we emptied last February!

John is great at scheduling his crews and working with the business end of things, and Derek and the two crew members he brought have always been easy to work with, pleasant, and concerned with my needs being met with the job, not with getting out of there and on to the next thing. They are very careful with moving things, excellent at packing, and easy to work with.

Chris and Derick ROCK!!! The move required emptying storage unit and taking contents to two locations. They were professional, loaded the truck efficiently and handled my possessions carefully.
The cost was reasonable. I've recommended Big Guy For Hire and would employ them again with no hesitation.

Derek and Herb(?) were lifesavers. My wife decided it was time to remodel the entire basement of our Ferndale bungalow. I dreaded the idea of moving all of her extensive collections of clocks, dishes, silverware, cookware, etc. along with my electronics collectibles (VHS or audio cassette players anyone?) out of the basement in order to get the work done. Initially, she was going to rent a storage unit for the month or so the job would require but I convinced her it would be more efficient to move it to the garage and then back. BigGuys came and got everything into the garage in around 2 hrs. and this morning (Sat. before T-Day) they came and took most of it back into our newly remodeled basement which we will proceed to fill up with all the stuff we had and more! I am too old (69) and have a bad back and there was no way I was going to do it or find friends who would help me with the dreaded task. It's worth every penny for the work and efficient job these guys did for us.

At this point, we've hired Big Guy For Hire twice to move within Ann Arbor. My partner and I have been incredibly pleased with them. I typically disassemble everything beforehand and box most things up and stage everything so it's easily accessible (and get the rental truck lined up), so BGFH only needs to do the heavy lifting/loading. Both times, my partner and I agree that they are worth the price. If we move in the future, they will continue to be our go-to movers.

We worked with Big Guy For Hire to load our pod in Michigan for a long-distance move to New York. John was great with communication in the lead-up to our job, and our three loaders arrived on time (even a little early) and were friendly and efficient throughout the whole process. We got the supplies in advance that John recommended (moving blankets, rope/twine, and tape) to make the loading process easier. We had a lot of items (including 5 drum sets!) and were amazed that our stuff all fit in the 16' pod and arrived safely here in NY. We would highly recommend John's company for anyone who needs moving and loading assistance.

I used Big Guy for Hire just today for my move and I could not have been more pleased. They called when they were about a half hour away and when they arrived got right to work. They were quick and very careful with my belongings. They secured my things very well in the truck and nothing moved an inch in the almost 40 mile ride. They unloaded everything right where we asked them too and even put my bed back together. Their rates are also extremely reasonable. I hope I never have to move again but if I do they will be first and only call and I will recommend them to anyone who asks. Thanks for everything!
