Company Overview

Dealing with a plumbing concern? Don’t waste your precious time waiting for a plumber. Contact Benjamin Franklin Plumbing right away, or wait for someone else: How valuable is your time?

In 1997, we began our journey as Yorkville/Premier Plumbing & Heating and aligned with PSI (Plumbers Success International) to improve our customer service approach. With the backing of PSI members, the Benjamin Franklin Plumbing franchise was established. We joined to connect with many franchisees across the country to ensure we deliver outstanding customer service and to hold ourselves accountable to those standards.

At six years old, I began working alongside my grandfather, who built homes and managed everything from foundations to plumbing, electrical, roofing, and heating (no air conditioning back then). I was mainly his helper, but I gained valuable experience and discovered my passion for hands-on work.

Starting at eight, I worked as a paperboy, gas station attendant, and with Burlington Northern Railroad. At nineteen, I married my wife, who has been my partner for 45 years, and we have three sons, all involved in trades in different ways. I began my career in the trades at the age of twenty-two.

In 1997, I purchased Yorkville Plumbing & Heating and quickly renamed it Yorkville/Premier Plumbing and Heating. I joined PSI to gain insights on providing top-notch service in plumbing.

In 2003, I sold the heating division of the business and joined the Benjamin Franklin Plumbing franchise group to ensure accountability to high customer service standards. And here we are, still committed to our mission.

If I could give this ""company"" 0 stars I would. We had a gas leak coming from our water heater. Nicor came out, explained it was coming from a pipe (Nicor tightened it and fixed it) and that it was also coming from the water heaters control valve. Jeremy came out, I explained the situation and he replaced pipes going to our water heater. Said he tested it and no leaks were there. They charged us $535 with an emergency fee of $189 (which we were aware of prior to them coming out). The next day I smelled gas again. Called Nicor and it was the same issue - a leak coming from the water heaters control valve. Called Benjamin Franklin again and Jeremy came out again explaining we need a whole new water heater. When asked why we spent $535 for pipes to be replaced when the issue wasn't fixed, he said the pipes were ""also leaking"". We ended up buying a water heater from Home Depot and I called the company to schedule an appointment. Whoever answered the phone said they will call me back when they get to the office. I didn't receive a call back and had to call them the next day. We agreed Jeremy would come at ""2 o'clock sharp"". My husband left work early for this and they didn't show up until 2:30, claiming they told me between 2-4pm which is a complete lie. After installing the water heater, they were going to charge over $1,000 but took $150 off because of the misdiagnosed issue from before. Not only that, they completely destroyed our door in the laundry room to the point where it's unusable. It took 3 days to get a response from Benjamin Franklin. I kept calling from my phone and they wouldn't answer until I called from my husbands phone. I finally spoke with a service manager, Chris, he was nothing but rude and unprofessional. He argued with me the entire time asking ""what I want from him"". When I said I want to be compensated for the broken door, he said they already took $150 off as a courtesy. I explained Jeremy told us that was for the misdiagnosed issue and Chris said ""that's not what it says in the notes"". He offered to send a carpenter out to look at the door (a carpenter from a plumbing company?) and possibly fix the wood paneling. I explained the entire door is not usable and the whole thing needs to replaced, to which he said my husband told Jeremy that it has always been that way. This is hands down the worst company I have ever worked with. Horrific customer service and they completely destroyed my house. On their website they have 100% satisfaction guaranteed and they are also guaranteeing keeping your house spotless. They didn't do either of these things. Look elsewhere for a plumbing company unless you want them to screw you out of almost $2,000 and break items in your house, then not compensate you for it.

Beware of this company doing work for you. They charge a tiered pricing, which has 4 levels & has the second to the highest level of pricing inclusive of a leak that would take 5 minutes to fix.

Add a water heater and the highest level of pricing includes disclaimers = close to $1K. This is partially my fault as the Google reviews showed 4.8 stars.

I should have looked at the 1 star reviews more carefully & I would have passed this company up if I saw everyone saying the same thing about cost being too high. One & done with this company, which of course means I will not be calling them back.

What a rip off! For the jobs they cannot perform they will hire their ""contractor"" aka Fox Valley Sewer for you and overcharge you. The manager, Chris, spoke to me as if I was mentally inferior to him, which really pissed me off. Chris could not even confirm that the services I paid him for were ever performed. What a joke this place is. Customers BEWARE. I do not recommend at all.

Ben Franklin Plumbing is fantastic , I have a older home and they have done quite a few jobs for us, from a shower install to moving the washers and dryers and new toilet installs. Very professional and caring of my home.

Benjamin Franklin Plumbing was nothing short of amazing. Our Home warranty company recommended them and I was honestly shocked with the great service we received as the last plumbers we dealt with through our home warranty were awful. Tony was nice, accommodating and quick to get our claim approved. He stayed in contact with us the entire time and ensured we were happy. Andrew was nothing short of amazing, he walked me through everything is was doing and laid everything out for us, didn't hesitate to answer any questions that I had or that my husband had, he communicated through the process and made sure we were happy, taken care of, and that we would never have to deal with broken pipes again. And Ned, the owner, came out and spoke to us, walked through the house with Andrew and came up with the best solution for us because the plumbing in our house is so messed up. All the guys on the job were amazing and I can't thank them enough. We will never use another plumbing company again. Benjamin Franklin Plumbing out of Yorkville blew us away with their service and work ethic. Thanks again!

If there was a place to put zero stars I would.
To all of my friends that live in this area. I would NOT recommend Benjamin Franklin plumbing out of Yorkville.
That place is a total rip off! To change the valves in my shower and put a new piece there where the water turns on and off they charged almost $1,200.00. I understand that they have to cut an access hole in the wall, but they didn't even patch it/put an access door up. The job took less than 2 hours to do, they replaced NO lines and did not do any plumbing. I would never recommend them to anyone. Lesson learned on our behalf. Just hope someone else doesn't make the same mistake that we did. Im not putting this out there to say whoa is me. I would just hate to see this happen to someone else.

I used them to replace a hot water heater. The amateur technician was unable to turn off the water and decided to cut the pipes anyways. He flooded my laundry, spraying water all over my media center destroying my Xbox. They told me they were going to replace it and I have yet to receive a check. A more reputable company came out to repair the shut off switch and noticed Benjamin plumbing installed the hot water heater incorrectly. Management at Benjamin sent me a very sarcastic email and I will no longer be contacting them. They are very unprofessional.

Please note this review is during COVID times. During this time, they told me several times they were down to 1 technician which did cause delays.

They were assigned to me from my home warranty company due to other contractors not following up on job. I knew from first contact that this company was more professional than others that I had contact with for my water heater.

My experience with Bob in the office was very positive. He asked for detailed information and pictures of broken water heater. He called me to tell me of updates of getting technician out. (A couple of delays, but I have learned to be patient during COVID times.) I was also called and texted when technician was on the way.

Tony B was the plumber assigned to me. I felt that he took the time to explain things to me and ask me questions. I was given a very detailed invoice and straightforward pricing. He took the time to show me what was updated how to read error codes should device breakdown.

Very friendly staff

Not a great experience. The plumber kept stepping in sewage and walking around in my house. I kept asking him to try to keep the mess contained and his reply was ""I cant make any guarantees. I literally wanted him to stop walking in the sewage backing up and walking elsewhere. No booties, not clean. He was rude and condescending as well. Would never reccomend.
