Company Overview

I am proud to be the kind of plumber you would call for your elderly loved one: someone trustworthy, someone dependable. My goal is to ensure that every job is a positive experience for my clients, focusing on aspects like pricing, skill, cleanliness, and more.

In 2012, the previous owner of Bay Plumbing, Harry Schiedeck, sold the company to Jonathan, whom he had known since Jonathan's arrival in the Bay Area. Harry created Bay Plumbing from the beginning and wished to sell it only to a person he could trust to carry on the Bay Plumbing tradition of excellent customer service from a capable professional. Harry saw in Jonathan the promise for his business to continue flourishing. Ever since, Jonathan has dedicated himself to nurturing positive relationships with his many pleased customers.

Hi, I'm Jonathan. I hail from Southern California and have spent more than 25 years in plumbing, a craft I am passionate about. I reside and work in Redwood City and the surrounding areas. The best part of my work is utilizing the skills I've honed over the years to help customers, tackle their problems, and do it swiftly and cleanly. Plumbing is a real art, and I am proud of my achievements in this field to date.

I have a son, Jonathan Jr., who occupies most of my free time.

I would give Jonathan 10 stars if there is a way! My garbage disposal broke the day before my honeymoon over a weekend. - Was making hectic calls to try to get it fixed for my folks who are staying at my place before I leave. Called Bay Plumbing, talked to Jonathan. He walked me through some basic DIY fix steps over the phone, and ""Vaula"" it is fixed in under 10 mins! So grateful of his free advice and help while other companies are quoting me $200-300 for emergency weekend rates! And I know absolutely nothing about plumbing, so to be able to diagnose the problem and give me instructions to follow over the phone shows he really knows what he is talking about!!!!
Would highly recommend this honest, kind-hearted and knowledgeable business!

I never get down on folks who roll up their sleeves and get dirty, but Jonathan took a long time on everything he attempted, took on jobs I didn't want done (e.g., removing and rinsing out a furnace filter that wasn't very dirty), didn't finish much of anything, saying he'd come back in a week (charging me for two visits), and left a toilet in worse shape than he found it by replacing a flapper with a different size flapper that is too large (he didn't bring a full replacement set). Then he charged me $21 for the $4 flapper and $75.20 (??) for another part that sells on Amazon for $25. When I called to complain about the parts charge of the $366 bill, all he could say is that he bases his pricing on OSH, which made no sense. This is very different from what I've come to expect from Redwood City.

I was spoiled by having Harry as my plumber for many, many years. I tried the person who bought Harry's business when Harry retired. He was not able to fix the problem he came for (told me to call the manufacturer), saw my leaking faucet and said he could get me a replacement part for $200, looked at my other faucets/showers and said he could come at another time to clean out, then left. Nothing fixed, then a $200 bill in the mail a week later.

I had a problem with my water heater pilot light and called PG&E. Since it was a Friday night, they could be of no help until Monday afternoon. I called Jonathan from Bay Plumbing and with his help I had hot water again! He sure knows his stuff. I will trust him with any plumbing needs in the future

Had an broken water pipe on a saturday morning, water was pouring out from the side of the house. Roto-rooter said it would be 2-3 hrs before they could come and wouldn't give me any quotes over the phone. I called Bay Plumbing and Jonathan was at my house within 30 minutes. He was very thoughtful and deliberate about figuring out exactly where the problem was....I thought we were going to have to cut some holes in the wall or at least go crawling around under the house. He was able to find the problem (a cracked, leaky pipe leading the outside of the house) and fixed it in an hour!
He could have easily spent 2-3 hrs crawling around, cutting holes trying to find the problem. He was honest and did not try to sell me more services.

Highly recommend to everyone...support local businesses!

Jonathan came out within 2 hours of my call. I had a toilet that was broken in that the water was not filling up after a flush. Jonathan quickly diagnosed the problem and we were back in business.

A more delicate, complicated problem was that one of my designer bathroom sink bowls was leaking. The glass bowl had to be gently removed while all the parts and silicone could be cleaned and replaced. I was half expecting to not have this fixed because my contractor originally had a very tough time installing these. But to make a long story short, Jonathan confidently and skillfully disassembled everything, and then put it all back together. No more leaks and no issues with the bowls our putting it all together.

I am very pleased and satisfied at the work done by Jonathan, and have no hesitation to call him again or to recommend his fine work.

Called Bay Plumbing for a sewage back-up in the downstairs shower (gross). Jonathan was able to fix it quickly with his professional-size electric powered snake in the main line. I always ask him questions when he's here so I can assess what the next plumbing project should be (fix the low water pressure or add another toilet?).
Anyway, he gives straight forward answers and good advice. Bonus: you'll feel comfortable having him in your home.

I called Bay Plumbing to come at take a look at our detached unit bath tub faucet. The faucet was leaking. John quickly figured out what was wrong. He replaced the washers inside of the faucet and leak stopped. He also worked on the batch room sink and removed hair from the sink. He did a superb job. From now on I'll call Bay Plumbing when there is a problem with our plumbing.

I had called Jonathan for a constant toilet running issue at one of our commercial buildings, and I was really impressed. So here's a run down of the pro's and con's of his visit:

Pros:
- Save us a ton of money! I had called Bay Shore Plumbers and the technician who came out told me that we needed to replace the whole toilet (about $900) Jonathan took a quick look at it and told us that the valve installation by Bay Shore Plumbers was incorrect and it would be a quick and inexpensive fix.
- Really knowledgeable. He explains how he fixed it and what else to look for.
- He makes sure the job is completely and thoroughly finished.
- He makes customer service a priority. His motto is if a tech doesn't know how to work on a job or are unsure, call your boss. Don't waste the customer's time and money trying to up sell them because you don't know or don't want to bother to learn how to do things properly. In other words if it can be fixed there's no need to replace it. I know service repairs are harder than just installing a whole new item, but if you learn how to do repairs the right way the first time you'll be so much more valuable as a technician, and sometimes repairs can be just as quick as an install.
- He followed up with me the next day to make sure the toilet was running fine.

Cons:
- He does tend to run a late on jobs because he's really through on each job. I had expected him at 8:30am, but he came by at 10:30am. I don't know if I was officially on his job schedule that day or I might have misunderstood him on the phone because I had poor reception.
- While I appreciate him trying to troubleshoot over the phone with me, I'm not an expert at plumbing, so I'd rather have him take a look at it and fix it. He was able to look at it in a few minutes and determine what was wrong. While it took me over half an hour trying to describe what was going on and using terms like ""this valve thing in the middle that pushes down"".

Suggestions:
- I know you never know how much time a plumbing job can take. Sometimes you run into other problems, which add to your time, but if you see that the issue will take longer than expected call your next customer to let them know. It just takes a few minutes and it maintains the relationship with the customer. Although my technician husband will vouch that there are jobs you can't just drop out of in the middle of to call someone.
- I don't know if Jonathan troubleshoots over the phone all the time, but it's just easier and less time consuming to swing by and physically look at the problem. Unless the person you're dealing with can speak in technical plumber lingo (unfortunately I'm not one of them).

I'll definitely be calling Jonathan in the future.
