Bay Plumbing
Company Overview
I consider it an honor to be the plumber you would reach out to for your senior parent: a reliable expert, a person you can count on. I aim to provide a pleasant experience for every client, paying attention to details like pricing, proficiency, cleanliness, and additional factors.
In 2012, Harry Schiedeck, the former owner of Bay Plumbing, transferred his business to Jonathan, a man he had known since Jonathan moved to the Bay Area. Harry established Bay Plumbing from scratch and wanted to ensure that his business was handed over to someone he could trust to uphold the Bay Plumbing tradition of exceptional customer service from a skilled professional. Harry saw in Jonathan the promise for his business to continue flourishing. Since that time, Jonathan has focused on developing solid connections with his numerous happy clients.
Hello, I'm Jonathan. I hail from Southern California and have spent more than 25 years in plumbing, a craft I am passionate about. I live and operate in Redwood City and its neighboring regions. What I enjoy most about my job is using the expertise I've gained over the years to support customers, solve their challenges, and do it promptly and tidily. Plumbing is a genuine craft, and I am very proud of the work I have accomplished so far.
I have a son, Jonathan Jr., who occupies most of my free time.

If you've used Bay Plumbing before, know that it's not the same guy any more. Harry retired & sold his business to Jonathan, the new repair guy.
This guy DOES NOT LISTEN TO WHAT YOU ARE SAYING.
Also he left me waiting for him in my very cold house for 2.5 hours without even calling to tell me he wasn't coming (I had to call the office to find this out), so then I had to spend *another* day sitting around my cold house waiting for him to come. My heat is back on (after 2 visits, totaling $500), but if it breaks again, I'M NOT CALLING BAY PLUMBING AGAIN.
Save yourself the aggravation; call someone else.

Had a leak in the piping between our well and the front sprinkler system. Called Bay Plumbing on a Friday at around 11am, asking if they could get someone out that afternoon (since I was leaving on vacation the next day).
Jonathan was able to come out by 2pm that same day, and I appreciated that I got a phone call from the office manager letting me know he was on his way a few minutes before he arrived. He was able to fix the leak quickly and easily. Jonathan seemed to really know his stuff and was very personable.
I would highly recommend him for any plumbing needs!

I agree with one of the most recent reviews. We did not get Harry. We got the new owner and the experience was not great. He is not professional and is very nosy about your personal life, asking inappropriate questions. He overcharged in terms of hours worked and for parts. I will not be calling again.

We've had stellar work done in the past by Harry. When we called for recent service, another person came and told us he is the new owner, that he'd bought the business from Harry. Please be aware that previous reviews are for Harry's stellar work and that those of us currently serviced by the new owner are reserving judgement. He does not have the same professional demeanor as Harry or instill confidence with his diagnosis. We would hesitate to have him perform actual work. If I was to truly rate this new owner on our recent encounter, I'd rate it a 0-1 minus experience. He is not Harry ... we miss Harry.

This is someone I found through their stellar yelp reviews, and after using their services, Yelp is right on the money.
I got quick same-day service, even though my project was a little ""unusual"" (adding a second faucet to my kitchen sink, so I had a dedicated dishwasher hookup), and the price was reasonable.
While this could have been a do-it-yourself job for me, it was worth it to have it done right by someone who knows what they're doing, and had all the parts at the ready, including better supply lines than my apartment originally came with.
(Besides, you don't want to make a water-related mistake when you're on the second floor!!!).

Harry is, by far, the best crafts person I've ever hired. This guy is an old-school professional of the highest order. Do not hesitate to hire him for any plumbing issue you're facing.

Harry did a fantastic job installing the toilet and pedestal sink in our new bathroom. The entire Bay Plumbing experience was fantastic. When I called Harry, he picked up the phone on the first try and we were able to quickly schedule some time for him to come install our new fixtures. Harry was very careful in our sparkling new bathroom and even laid down a cloth to rest all of his tools so as not to scratch our new tile. When he began installing the pedestal, he quickly noticed that there was a manufacturer's defect and that the sink wouldn't be level with regular installation. He quickly found a solution using shims to fix the problem without compromising the stability of our sink.
I highly recommend Harry and Bay Plumbing for anyone looking for a plumber who is competent, professional and a master in his trade.

We had a problem with a leaking garbage disposal. Before we called Bay Plumbing, we had called someone else, who, after he arrived, said he was surprised our brand ( KitchenAid) still made disposals, told us he had one on the truck - he spent most of his time trying to sell us a new one. He never took the pipe out of the disposal to see what was really going on! Told us the exit flange on ours was worn etc., etc., etc.
We then called Bay Plumbing. The owner called us back in about 30 minutes, juggled his next appointment so he couild come right over and sure enough, he was there 20 minutes later. He took out the drain pipe and discovered there was no problem with the disposal - it was the drain pipe which became corrded due to careless installation 8 years ago.
He fixed the leakage problem and corrected the installation and was on his way to his next appointment 1 1/2 hours later. His experience, skill and honesty saved us several hundred dollars. Thanks, Harry!

I called with a question about a fire protection sprinkler system, and Harry called me back within a few hours. Even though he doesn't work on sprinklers himself, he spent fifteen minutes with me on the phone educating me about the basics of how those systems work, and what kind of license is needed to work on them, and where to look for more information. I found him super helpful and straightforward, and would gladly work with him in the future!

Unless you know a little bit about plumbing yourself, steer clear of Harry. He may know his trade, but he has no qualms about taking advantage of someone who doesn't know anything about plumbing.
I called him to come out and take a look at my toilet which was making a sound like it was constantly running. Based on a quick internet search, I was hoping this was an issue with the flapper needing to be replaced. Harry took a glance at my toilet and told me I'd either need to buy a $350 retrofit kit or replace the whole toilet for $450. I wasn't completely surprised to hear about needing a new toilet, as we've had issues before. What got to me was that he fiddled around with the toilet for about 5 or 10 minutes (tightening a screw, no removing of parts) and implied that he had ""temporarily"" fixed the running toilet issue and charged me $125 for the 10 minutes. I didn't realize just how temporary, until my son went to use the bathroom right after, and it immediately started with the running noise again! When I called Harry back, he said the best he could do was pro-rate the $125 towards either a new toilet or the retrofit kit. At this point, I was getting a sinking feeling in my stomach, which became worse when I looked online and found the toilet he was trying to sell to me for $450 listed for $128 at Home Depot.
When my neighbor came by to take a look at my toilet, he pointed out that the plastic part connecting the arm of the float ball to the ball cock was cracked in several places. Without replacing that, there was no way to stop the toilet from running. My neighbor went down to Home Depot and purchased a couple of parts for $12, in under an hour the toilet was no longer making the running noise and was flushing properly again. This was a temporary fix, I still need to replace the toilet. But it was a true temporary fix.
I understand that a plumber has to charge for coming out, but I am paying for the plumber's time and expertise to actually perform basic plumbing skills. Harry did not provide that service. I am saddened that someone who has plumbing expertise would take advantage of someone who obviously did not, and was paying for that knowledge and service. I will be taking my business elsewhere.
