Arico Heating and Cooling
Company Overview
Within a week, my 20-year-old water heater started to drip. Additionally, the compressor on my eight-year-old AC unit failed. I relocated to my house a little more than a year ago and was excited about having dual cooling, but that dream never materialized. When we first entered the house, neither the AC nor the evaporative cooler needed to be on, and we only checked that they functioned. As it happened, despite the AC functioning, the vent designed to close at the evaporative connection was stuck open. Thus, the AC unit failed to cool most of my home. The first summer here was quite challenging, and the electric bill was shocking.

Do NOT use these guys for AC or heating issues!
The tech who showed up was either incompetent or just trying to rip me off. He spent hours at my house trying to figure out what was wrong but couldn't. He told me several times I just had to buy a new unit for 1000's of dollars and of course they would sell it to me. Even the people in my house got a weird vibe from him and told me they thought he was just trying to rip me off and make an expensive sale.
After spending about 3 hours looking at it with no idea what was wrong, we realized that the reason my unit wasn't working well was because the air filter was too clogged...
Changed the air filter and unit worked fine. They still charged me more than $300 just to tell me that the air filter needed to be replaced. It seriously took the guy more than 3 hours to figure that out...
When I complained to the manager, he seemed perfectly fine with the fact that the tech had tried to sell me a brand new unit for 1000's of dollars even when it wasn't necessary at all-- apparently this is what they are supposed to do; try to get customers to buy new units.
At least I didn't buy an unnecessary new unit for 1000's of dollars. Because of such a negative experience I won't hire these guys again.
Art F.I shopped 5 companies and had 3 on-site written bids for a whole new 5-ton A/C system for my 11-year old home. Their representative and master technician, Tim, was superb and clearly the most knowledgeable of the 5 about A/C manufacturers and equipment. He listened carefully to my needs and helped me understand the cost/benefit tradeoffs of each (his email arrived after 10 PM the day we met - this guy works HARD). He never pushed more expensive units I did not need. On the install date, his crew of 3 showed up on time and I spent most of the 9-hour day observing them (since my house was so hot). The install was very professional and detailed and he even overcame a few builder mistakes on the original system, even though it took a lot of extra time and some materials I did not pay for in the quote. I am VERY happy with my new Trane system and it's performance. HIGHLY recommend ARICO, especially since most of my research on these new A/C systems mentions that installation skill is critical to long-term A/C system performance and durability.
My wife and I regularly get our plumbing done by Arco Plumbing. Somehow, the last time a problem came up, she ended up calling Arico Plumbing instead. These are not the same people at all. We've had some issues with our dishwasher line clogging a couple times before. The dishwasher itself is fine, it's just a tube connecting it to the drain. I've had Arco come out to fix it more than once. Arico on the other hand, they didn't fix it, and they still charged me more than Arco. The guy they sent out was nice enough, but I guess Arico has a policy of charging you just to send a guy out, even if it's only to tell you ""Yeah, we're not going to do anything here.""
I called up to complain, but never got a response back from them. I really couldn't recommend this company to anyone. I'm giving them 2 stars for being expensive and useless, while still staying above the level of the worst contractors I've ever encountered.
they have been here before to replace a water filter. this time they failed to tell me on the phone that they now have a 2 hr minimum so they now charge 2 hrs labor even if they are only there for 20 minutes!! that would have been good to know before hand as I would not have used them. so they call me the day of the apt and say they are running early.
(they have charged the last person for 2 hrs too and were not there that long! so he is here for 20 min and charges for 2 hrs!! I should have had him stay for 2 hrs. he was a nice young man but their billing is terrible. I called office and spoke to mgr. he was no help so I asked owner to call me. never happened.
will never use this company again. but I am sure they are raking in the $--charging for 2 hrs, rarely putting in that time and going on the the next 2 hr charge.
never again!
Very expensive. Move at the speed of molasses. Will charge you for their time if they have to go to the store for parts!
Gary S.We were having trouble with water pressure in our home. Dustin Maples was sent out and came up with the solution in about 10 minutes. Our 17 year old water softener was the culprit. Dustin did some research on costs and benefits of a new system and explained it to us in ""layman's terms"". He promptly and professionally installed the new system at a reasonable price. Thanks Arico and thanks Dustin.
It is amazing how arrogant these people are. Thay actually believe they are doing the customer a huge favor by even talking to them on the phone. I had a negative experience and I would not ever call them again. Disingenuous.
Gabriel W.I can't speak to the experiences of the previous two reviewers, but I had an very good experience with Arico for both AC and Plumbing.
In one week, my 20 year old water heater started leaking and the compressor on my 8 year old ac unit died. I only moved into my house a little over a year ago, and was looking forward to having a dual cooling home, but it never panned out. When we got in the house, the neither the AC nor the evap was needed to be on and we only tested that they both worked. But as it turned out that despite the AC working, the vent that is supposed to close at the evap connection got stuck open somehow, and so the AC unit never was able to cool 3/4 of my house. The first summer here was pretty rough, and the electric bill was astounding.
Needing entirely new units, Arico was fantastic on their professionalism, willingness to problem-solve, and pricing. It was a pleasure working with them, and their workers were diligent, kind, and applied themselves.
That is not to say there were not a few small hiccups in the process, however, that I do not really blame Arico for. First, apparently the gas line to my house is really stupid, because it has an ""on"" position and an ""off"" position. The water heater was installed a day before the AC unit, and when the the guy who installed the water heater left, everything was working. But they had to turn the line off again to hook it to the AC's heating element. That tech turned the unit to ""on"" when he left, but apparently at my house, off means off, and on means off...but the area between off and on is where the gas is actually on. The water heater stopped working, and I couldnt figure out why I couldnt re-light the pilot. A tech had to come out and help.
Also, the AC unit, once installed, worked beautifully and for the first time I had cold air flowing through my entire home...until some point in the middle of the night when the unit shut off. I was able to reset the unit, and it would cool the house again, but for some reason every night, the thing would stop working and cease to follow the set program. A week and several tech home visits later, I think both the tech and myself were unbelievably frustrated with this. After running an extremely in-depth diagnostics and speaking to the manufacturer, it was discovered that the unit model had this problem regularly and it was caused by a malfunctioning, however erroneous, safeguard switch. The company recommended wiring around the faulty switch, which the tech did, and my unit has been working flawlessly ever since.
So was the entire process completely painless? No, but I can't really blame Arico for the hang-ups that did occur. And thankfully, they were quick to resolve the issues. Having these two major appliances go out at the same time was not cheap to repair, but I did quite a lot of research on my own and Arico did very well by me on the pricing. Also, I want to give a shout out especially to Kenny the plumber, who was particularly good at his job. I would definitely use this company again in the future.
Sarah N.Do not use for AC work. This company has been so unprofessional and a nightmare to work with. Our AC compressor unit died. We had used the company before for plumbing work and were impressed, so we called them. They showed up several hours late for the appointment and ""installed"" the new ac compressor. Problem was is the techs couldn't figure out how to get it to work. They left my house at 7pm and left me with no AC. The next day all 3 techs come back out and figure it out in 10 minutes. Someone clearly screwed up/ Fast forward a month. They are supposed to come out to check the unit to make sure it is working correct. I make an appointment for 2pm. At 5pm I call the office and ask where they are. Tech got tied up but is on his way. We finally hear at 7pm he can't make it but will be there between noon and 2pm the next day. Once again we get stood up. We call about 4 hours after the appointment and ask where he is. No answer and no messages. I then called the main company and left an irate message and asked that the manager call me back. They never call me back. 1 week after this the brand new unit quits working on a Sunday. We have to then wait to the middle on Monday to find out that it a 5 pounds low on freon and the tech wanted to charge us for the freon. They thankfully changed their minds on charging. There were no leaks detected so this means that the original installers screwed up. Had the company actually came out when they were suposed to this issue would have been caught and I wouldnt have had to miss more time off from work. Do not use this company for HVAC!!!
DO NOT GO WITH ARICO!
We had someone come out to our house last year from Arico and the guy told us the entire air conditioner had to be replaced, including part of the ductwork in the attic!!!! Gave us some story about the unit/ductwork being too small for our two story/square footage and this ratio had forced the AC to work too hard.
I got the name of another company from a friend. (Air and Solar Technologies LLC) That guy came out, informed us, we were low on Freon, and probably just needed to add a little freon each year at the start of summer!!!! THousands cheaper.
Arico is bad news!
