I scheduled a visit for this company to fix a gas heating stove in our kitchen. The technician worked on it but couldn't fix it and I had to pay their minimum charge of $244 to be in the same place as when he arrived. Never calling them again.
Richard Z.Two for Two! First, our new furnace install and just now a plumbing job, delighted with both performances! On time, professional demeanor and technical plumber skills. Joe V is my new Friend in the plumbing biz.
Update from my last review. A few months went by. No one ever followed up on the gas leak situation, despite me telling them I still smell gas. However, I did get contacted via phone and mail regarding an earlier invoice for gas leak detection. (the invoice wasn't even correct, and the guy took my card, did it not go through? all of it is strange.) It definitely makes me feel like they are more concerned with getting my money than actually getting the work done correctly. Very disappointed.
I've been a customer for years, but had a great experience yesterday with Joe for my annual furnace check!
He was friendly, knowledgeable, thorough, and plain great! Took his time and didn't rush through my appointment. He even made some great suggestions on how to keep the air flowing at it's highest quality after learning that I had an asthmatic child.
I needed a small part replaced as well and he was able to do the job on the spot. Thanks to him discovering that I needed it, I will now avoid some emergency in the dead of winter! Very happy customer here!
AVH installed the water heater in the house we recently bought, and during the inspection we found out that it was leaking carbon monoxide because of how poorly and incorrectly it had been vented. They had sold the prior owners on a larger size water heater, but there was literally no way one that size could be vented properly and safely in this basement space. We had to completely replace the water heater despite it only being a few years old. AVH refused to do anything about it despite this being their fault completely -- not to mention that the poor prior owners of our house had been unknowingly living with carbon monoxide leaking for years. I have since found out from other folks that this is not uncommon for AVH. Absolutely avoid this company.
Scot S.They are outrageously priced; but they did the job. I'd give 2&1/2 stars if that was an option. $79 to come out. $145 to look at the radiators. $177 each to change 3 valves. $755 total for an hour and a half of work.
They installed cast iron baseboard radiators on our 2nd floor and upgraded our boiler system with zones and other controls. The techs (Dimitry, Roberto, Gabriel) knew their stuff, were efficient and clean. During the busy season communication around scheduling and work details with office staff was a little more work than I would've liked, but I've dealt with worse for sure. They weren't the most expensive quote and did a good job. And they've come back promptly to fix or support us with any issues (there have only been minor ones). They were also flexible working around other rehab work we had going on. Would definitely recommend.
Em W.The problem with American Vintage Home, is that they work with some technicians who are shady AF. I'm giving this review three stars because I had a good experience with this company for installing my SpacePak, but then shortly thereafter, I had a nightmarish experience with an HVAC technician they sent to my house for my very 1st annual winter maintenance cleaning & check after moving into my house. If this review was based on that 2nd visit alone, it would be 1 star.
I hate to run a company's name through the mud, but it might be helpful for other people to be on the lookout for this type of thing. So here's what happened:
The HVAC technician American Vintage Home sent to do the cleaning & maintenance on my boiler (for radiant heat) straight up lied to me and told me the boiler was emitting dangerous levels carbon monoxide and he had to ""condemn"" it--which totally freaked me out. Then he sent another tech over who tried to sell me a very expensive new boiler (like upwards of 15K). I quickly learned that the tech(s) had lied to me because I got a 2nd and 3rd opinion from other companies who showed me that the boiler, although old, was working fine and not emitting dangerous CO. WTF.
Another fun tidbit--the American Vintage Home tech, after putting a ""condemned"" sticker on my boiler, told me that he would ""do me a favor"" and lower the pressure on my boiler so that it would not emit dangerous levels of CO and I could have heat in the meantime before I replaced the boiler. I later learned that this would've been illegal for him to do if my boiler was truly emitting dangerous CO levels. By law, he would have had to disconnect the boiler.
This is the craziest violation of professional ethics I can think of--he made up a lie and preyed on my fear for the safety of my family just to sell me a new boiler. I reported it to American Home Vintage and they were apologetic and told me the technician didn't work for them anymore. But still, it left an awful taste in my mouth. I don't know how they vet their technicians or what sort of sales incentives they have, but clearly something went awry here.
On the bright side, as a newish homeowner, now I know how shady people in this industry can be. Safe to say this put a fire under my ass to learn as much as I can about how these systems work so I'll know when someone is feeding me BS next time.
Whatever you do, don't hire these people. Two different technicians gave me 2 completely different diagnoses of my boiler, which works fine. I thought one of them didn't know what they were talking about. But they wanted to charge me over $1300 to ""fix"" that which is not broken. I hired another company and was told that NONE of the issues either technician cited had merit. Also, I scheduled an entire day for someone to check my boiler for the winter and THEY NEVER SHOWED UP. So, this is an incompetent and slimy company.
Worst customer service by management ever. Technicians are lovely but I just had the worst interaction with a manager by the name of Tony who refused to give me his last name. The company sent a technician out this morning without the proper instructions. And this isn't the first time. I fully expected an engineer or project manager to accompany him given the work. Tony was rude and unprofessional and completely unapologetic. I've used the company for over 5 years but I'm done.
