Recommended Customer Reviews
I am SO disappointed in this company. I have heard many great reviews but we were very displeased. Our service tech didn't provide us any information and was super vague. I called 2 additional times to understand what was serviced and nobody has returned my calls. If I could give this company a -5 I would.
This is definitely NOT a company who takes their customers seriously or who know what they are doing. They have done more damage than repair and they don't keep track of their business. One of their technicians ripped them off by selling us parts on his own and taking the money himself. Another prided himself on knowing the old school in floor heating sytems and ended up flooding our garage and we had to pay for all the drywall repair. They constantly cancel or show up with the wrong parts. And plumbing that is supposed to be repaired still isn't working. Customer service only knows how to apologize - that should tell you something. They don't review their computer screens and never know who you are when you call. I'm sorry I used this company. They wouldn't even cancel my maintenance agreements over the phone. They actually made me send them an email request. I can't wait to be done with American Vintage Home.
Rita M.Made an appointment for a technician to come to my house to give me a quote today between 4pm and 6pm. He calls at 6pm and tells me that he can't make it - I have to re-schedule - too much traffic! This is unacceptable as I took off work to get home and wait - I made it through the traffic from downtown Chicago! I am a new customer and feel like if this is how you treat a new customer, I don't think we need to go any further.
This company seems to have a lot of money for a fancy website with live support - maybe they should spend their money on better logistics. I would not recommend - I do not believe their pronouncements about guaranteed customer satisfaction. I called their ""emergency line"" and was told they would leave a message for tomorrow - not even an apology! Not impressed!
Justin M.We'd just purchased an old home (1890s) and AVH came to our rescue with solutions for our plumbing and HVAC issues. They were able to answer all of our questions and quickly got the work done for both jobs.
UPDATE: Pilot light wouldn't stay lit on water heater. Came out said they fixed it charged $300. Went out again, came again, said needed another part (thermocouple) but had to order. After a series of miscommunications, I eventually ended up having to get someone else to fix it.
I will give them credit though, they were very nice about the mix-up and refunded ALL my money. So even though they didn't fix my problem, they at least to seem to be honest and trustworthy.
Sandy S.Well, my old Munchkin boiler in my 100+ year old home finally broke down and had to be put out to pasture. Sarge (?), one of AVH's repairmen, came out twice and really tried to save the little dude, but to no avail. Super nice guy (Sarge, not the Munchkin. That thing was getting to be a real a**hole. Did I mention it was Christmas...?).
So, I had Jose from AVH come over for an estimate of a replacement - he was fantastic. Took the time to look at the old system, how it was hooked up, made notes of all radiators, windows, doors, square footage of the home, discussed various options to replace it easily (also included a couple other options just in case I wanted to change it up, but meh, I just wanted heat with no-frills!) etc. Spent a LOT of time with me answering questions, which I appreciated. Tried to upsell a couple things (thermostat, maintenance packages) but there was no *hard* sell which I appreciated as well. He said that ""you'll have some quotes come in higher, and some lower. We're usually right in the middle"".
The two other companies I called for quotes were in and out in less than 5 minutes, didn't ask about windows or doors, didn't come upstairs to check out the radiators, nothing. Didn't even really look at me or amuse me with information or ask if I had any questions. Was not impressed. AVH's quote came in right in the middle, just as Jose had predicted, and I made my decision to go with them for the replacement and install.
Installation took a day, the workers were great. There was some minor confusion about the contract the workers brought for the final payment, so I emailed Jose to make sure all was copacetic...instead of calling or emailing back he shows up on my doorstep, as he was in the neighborhood. Corrected the paperwork and made sure all was going ok with installation.
A follow-up 2 weeks later was included to test the system and make sure all was running satisfactorily. The person they sent out for the follow-up was punctual, knowledgable, and also answered my endless questions. :)
Everything was neat and tidy after the installation and follow-up. Boiler worked like a charm all season. Really happy I went with them and not another company; will have AVH out for maintenance in the years to come! A+++.
Very rarely do I find a company that I am excited to refer friends and family to - and the team at American Vintage Home has made the list. We purchased an older unique home with aging mechanicals, and we chose AVH for their specialization in mini duct AC systems which our newly purchased home had. The installation for a replacement AC went great! Sales engineer was responsive, knowledgeable, and we got a great quote compared to other companies. Then, the installation day came and we had a thorough walkthrough with the install manager to determine each step of the process and run through all the decisions on how things would be installed. Install team was great, courteous, and worked extremely hard. During the install, the manager flagged a hazardous situation with our boiler (which another company had recently ""inspected"" and clearly lacked competence) which required a boiler replacement and caused a home crisis in the middle of the year's coldest winter temperatures. Again we got multiple quotes and luckily with the recent experience with AVH we got another quote from them. We again got rapid response, thoughtful options, and another great price for a new combination boiler/water heater install. We got the same ultra professional, hard working install by another crew, and again were completely impressed. I work in the construction industry where I interact with contractors every day, and I can honestly say that this group operates at a level typically reserved for high end commercial work. Their practice of having a follow up inspection by their install manager is the perfect method to commission the systems and answer questions that come up. Two separate installs with tight timelines and competitive pricing went very well. Impressive across the board, and they have certainly earned our trust and our business for the foreseeable future.
We were extremely pleased on all levels for our recently installed ultra efficient gas fired boiler and water heater. American Vintage Home was referred to us in a positive way by not one, but three different parties that we trust. After our recent dealings I can completely understand why, I would not hesitate to refer them as well. Their project planning was top-notch which is especially crucial in an older home which led to an estimate that was very thorough and professional. They were there to answer every question we had in a timely manner. The install went smoothly and exactly as planned. We could not believe the amount of work they completed in such a small amount of time. The installers were professional, courteous, timely, clean and most of all experienced. We have not had a single issue with our new system as it has been working flawlessly while lowering of monthly gas bills. We definitely plan on using American Vintage Home in the spring for our AC needs as well.
They installed a humidification system for us previously and it was not working well this year. They told us the filter needed to be changed. The quote we were given when the tech walked in the door was 1 dollar amount to check the humidification and furnace. After being told our filter was moldy we were told we could get a genuine Aprilaire filter installed for $70+ the original fee above. We were told that we couldn't get it in a store; the store only carries $20 paper filters that would mold, we were told. Installation included opening the filter door, pulling the old one out, slipping the new one in, and closing the door. After the furnace sensor was cleaned we were given price #2....or a service plan that we'd pay monthly for that was price #3. Naturally, the filter price was different for each pricing category as well. Plus our coupon worked for 1 price but not the 2 others... Putting us on the spot with 3 verbal offerings of what to pay such that we had to do the math and weight the pros/cons of each offer without being able to compare in writing isn't transparent. It's just confusing and fishy. It felt like bait and switch and we'd rather work with a company that's honest and forthright. BONUS: That Aprilaire #10 filter pad that was $70 that we could only get through a tech- wrong. It's available online for $10. We will never use this company again.
Barbara S.I wanted to have a good experience with AVS but it the opposite. The tech person who came to do my 100 point inspection took one look at my furnace and said it was old and dirty and needed to be replaced.
He checked one belt and dusted the exterior panel, that was about it for the $140.00 I was charged. I asked to speak to a supervisor, no one called. I asked the tech to send me his report, he didn't. I called the office and then received the 100 point checklist which had been filled in as done. Since I was present the whole time with the tech, I knew that most of those tasks were not done. I paid $140 for him to express his opinion about the furnace, servicing it did not happen.
Expressed my dissatisfaction to the person who answers the phone, no one contacted me to see what my concerns were.
Never again American Vintage Home.
