In the plumbing field since the late 70s. He earned his Journeyman license in Louisiana in 1985. After moving to Atlanta in 1985, he earned his Georgia Master license by passing the required test. In 1987, James and Sylvia moved back to New Orleans. In 1992, he completed the second test for the Louisiana Master license and earned his certification. He contributed to hurricane relief plumbing projects in Texas. He earned his Pearl River County Mississippi certification in 1993, but it lapsed when job opportunities dried up.
