At A&W Plumbing, we prioritize exceptional customer service and fair pricing. A&W Plumbing was founded 17 years ago alongside my best friend, who also worked at San Jose Water Co. Our vision was to create a thriving plumbing company. Tragically, I lost my partner and best friend to cancer shortly after. I decided to maintain the name as a tribute to him and kept pushing ahead. It’s an honor to have launched A&W Plumbing with him, and I aim to keep our dream alive.
My career started at San Jose Water Company back in 2000. For the past 17 years, I managed both my plumbing company and my role as a foreman at San Jose Water. Eventually, I decided to focus entirely on A&W Plumbing. My extensive 17 years in plumbing, spanning the water department and A&W Plumbing, allows me to work comfortably on both large and small pipes. As a South Bay native, I value the community and the people I assist. Feel free to contact me anytime for a free estimate or quick advice on your plumbing concerns.

Our toilets and shower were clogged Saturday night. We have had this problem before and knew that we needed a plumber to snake the drain. Most plumbers are off on Sundays, so we got really lucky with Steve from A&W Plumbing. We called him and he quoted us 2 prices, one for snaking from outside cleanout opening and one for snaking drain from roof. Like he promised, he came a few hours later and saved the day! We were so happy to be able to use our toilets and shower again! Very personable and knowledgable guy. We will definitely call on him again for future plumbing issues. So glad we found him on Yelp.

Steve was sincere in his attempt to fix my broken flush. He did mention that he would need a part and ordered it but still came even though the part had not come to at least help with a temporary fix. Later, once the part came, he came again (at no extra charge) and fixed it. He was very courteous and professional each time in my dealings with him. I will definitely use him again and recommend him to others.

They put in a tankless water heater in our house. We love it. They were friendly and did a great job installing and working with us.

Steve and A&W plumbing did an awesome job! Very professional, knowledgable, friendly and courteous.
We had an issue with our shower backing up, and air bubbles coming from the toilets. He diagnosed the problem and fixed it.
My wife and I would recommend them to anyone in need of a plumber!
We will be absolutely using them again!

Excellent service & highly recommended!
Steve is professional and responsive. We had a water heater leak and need a replacement. I made a call on Sunday morning. Steve show up three hours later to check out the leak. He has an extensive water/plumping experience and was very details in explaining to us the replacement options. Installation was a breeze and we are very happy with our service & selection.

Intial response to my call quick but showed an hour after promised time. He said he would order the part we needed and come back. Despite numerous follow up calls on our part and repeated promises by him, he never came back. I finally realized that even though he said he was waiting for the part he was waiting for me to stop bothering him. Simply Green came and took care of the problem in one visit.

We just moved into our new/old home about a year ago. Our main sewage pipe to the street had a blockage, so we couldn't run any water in the house without it backing up into the tub/shower. I called another plumbing company with great reviews to come out. They were professional and responsive, and tried snaking the main for about 1.5 hrs, changed the ""claw"" at tip, and managed to only get out a handful of roots and shredded baby wipes. This didn't clear the blockage. After all was said and first plumber was ""done"", I received a $6500 quote to replace the sewage pipe out to street (to tear up concrete and shrubs), and our family of 5 was about to go on a ""liquid diet"" until we came up with $6500. We decided to call in a second opinion.
Steve at A&W was my second call to a plumber (we wish it was our first). A&W had less reviews, but still a lot of positive ones. The negative ones seem to be because he is too busy, since it is an owner operated business. In my opinion, this is an understandable response from both the company, and the reviewer. Steve came out on a Saturday after a family outing to give me a quote for replacing the main, but luckily it didn't even get that far. He took a look at the standing water in the cleanout, asked me a few questions about what the previous plumber did/didn't do, and decided he wanted to try and actually fix our problem. He stated, ""I just want to see if I can get this cleared for you, cause you guys can't use anything"". After a second snake attempt (a beefier, more effective looking snake, I will add), the drain still wouldn't clear. He then tried a second method by pressuring the pipe with a balloon/water with a garden hose attached. After a few minutes of this, the drain was squeaky clean. He told me it was probably years and years of buildup, and the natural gravity flow of flushing, baths and showers couldn't push the junk out to the street.
Needless to say, I've found my go-to plumber that I can trust with my home. He will be the only one to call when I need my water main, re-piping, and relocating my indoor water heater outside. I was very worried to find someone that was trustworthy to pay good money to. Steve really made it feel like a personal experience, and not like I was just another customer. That can be priceless.

We had a plugged sewer line. Steve came out right away and spent about 1 1/2 hours at our house working on it but advised us we needed to get someone with a special closed drum cable system as it had to be done from inside the house. His equipment would have worked on most houses, just not ours. He refused to take any payment. I will call him next time we have a plumbing need.

This is our second time calling A&W due to our kitchen+guest bath plumbing backing up. The first time, Steve figured out that roots were growing in our (very old) pipe and cleared it. He gave us advice on required maintenance til we decide to fully replace it and was very patient with our questions :) It happened again 4 months later, so I called late one night and Steve came by the next day. Same problem, so he tackled it and also fixed our other leaky toilet (had to head off to get a replacement part). Again was very helpful with plumbing advice, and we respected that he has a SJW background also. Not sure how the cost relates to other plumbers, but for expertise & reliability I won't complain! Didn't give full 5 stars as we had to fix up a few things after he left to get the toilet working again fully (not a big deal)

My Jurassic era water heater finally gave out. So I headed to Yelp to find someone to replace it. I settled on A&W Plumbing because they were located close to me, and because the only bad reviews were related to people not getting called back and time issues. I called and Steve answered. We talked through my situation, and set up an appointment the next evening, so he could pop over and check out the water heater and give me a quote. The job he had the next day went long so we rescheduled our initial appointment for the following evening. He showed up and looked at my old water heater and pipes. He described what he saw and told me what issues there might be. He gave me a quote, and we set up a time for him to come out and replace my water heater.
The next day Steve showed up with a nice new Bradford White 50 gallon water heater. Steve is a very nice and friendly man. He let me hang around and watch as he worked, and while he worked, he talked about the job and what he saw, so I got a nice bit of education on plumbing. I learned that Steve has over a decade of experience working with San Jose Water and A&W Plumbing. While Steve replaced my old water heater, it was the small details which really impressed me. He replaced the connections to the water heater with new tubes. The old water heater had leaked all over the couple of feet of dry wall that surrounded the water heater's platform, so he tore out the dry wall and took it away to prevent mold from growing. When we went inside to see that the new heater was working, he noticed my faucet wasn't flowing very well, and so he quickly took it apart and showed me how to clean it out, so it flowed strong again.
It has been about a month, and my new water heater is working flawlessly. It is running so much better than my old one had been running the last several years. I wish I had called A&W several years ago. I highly recommend A&W for your water heater needs, and based on conversations with Steve, I will also use them for my future plumbing needs.
